Chapter 66: Chapter 66
“I don’t know what she wants.” He blurted out while clutching his head. He had been chanting that sentence over and over. Mike was feeling a headache appear as he listened to him say that for the nth time. He had been drinking for the whole night. It was past four in the morning when he drunk-called Mike. He did not know who else he could count on.
“Let’s get you to the car and then talk.” He screamed over the last music. He was quite frustrated when he called him at three in the morning. When he heard his voice though, he had to get there. He sounded so drunk. He was never that drunk even when he gulped a whole three bottles down his throat. He kept slurring. It took him a few minutes to get to say the bar’s name.
Thomas had left the house in the afternoon and had been out and drinking since then. He was frustrated to no end. The truth was that he was stuck. His grandpa had called him earlier to his room and warned him about “his wife” Olivia. He told him in clear words to make her learn about their lifestyle and etiquette as if they were some royal shit. He was also not fond of her dressing apparently or her way of speaking. He did not know what the hell even that meant. He did not know their family had such traditions. He never acted upon them and nobody forced him to either.
So why was it different when it came to Olivia?
“You are too much, grandpa.” He remembered his words as he exited the room after slamming the door.
His grandpa surely knew how to suck up all his energy.
And after going to the room, he saw Olivia combing her hair. She looked so angelic. He had never seen a scene more serene than that. It was funny if one thought about it. She was just drying and combing her hair. But her fresh and clear skin, wet hair, body, everything was calling him to hug her back. But he refrained.
He could not afford to get her mad or offended. Besides, he knew that she was anxious after coming to his grandpa’s house. He knew that very well because he noticed her every move while they were having lunch. He feared that she would get upset over his grandpa’s nonsense questions which he threw her way. But she was so strong. She did not show anything she was feeling although he knew how nervous she must have been. She could tell from the way she choked when James said he hated people who lied.
He wanted to tell her that it was he who had lied and forced her to lie—not her. And that she did not have to worry about anything as long as he was there with her.
But she told him clearly that she did not want to do anything with him. She wanted him to keep his distance from her. She showed that she had no interest in him whatsoever. She was in just for the obeyance of the contract terms and nothing else.
Why would she be interested in him when he did her so wrong?
He was wrong. He expected her to at least have some interest in him. If it was some other girl, he would have no difficulty in making her fall in love with him. But she was not some other girl. She was Olivia.
He could not understand why he was being so miserable. Mike was by his side trying to balance his weight.
“God, why are you so heavy?” He grunted as he took him to the car—or the right thing would be to say he “tried” to take him to the car.
He was not overweight. He had a bulk build and Mike had just an average build. The poor guy was having some trouble carrying him to the car.
“Phew!” He let out a breathy sound as he finally made him sit on the passenger’s seat. Thomas also grunted as he tried to find a comfortable position for his head to lean against the seat, but he was done for.
“Let me take you to your house.” Mike sat as he shook his head at his miserable state. He saw him shake his head.
“My apartment.” He said simply and Mike nodded realizing that he could not see him.
“Okay.” He replied and drove him to the apartment. Mike wanted to ask him if something was bothering him, but he thought the better of it. He did look like something was bothering him big time.
Who was the “she” in his life? He never bothered about any “she” before. He was the one who bothered all the “shes”.
Mike was finding it hard to believe that he was in such a pathetic state because of a girl. But who could be that girl? Was it perhaps Olivia?
But he had told him that their marriage was nothing but a contract. So why would he be troubled over her?
He had to wait. He was not in the position to answer any of his questions so he would wait until he could. To be honest, he was curious. Thomas walker drinking over a girl? It had never happened before—not even when Jade Parker ditched him.
He was just angry and that was all. He was normal the next day as if there was no girl named Jade in his life. It was the first time he was “serious” with a girl before. But now that he thought about it. He was serious with the girl he had been drinking over just now.
He sighed and took him to his apartment just as he had instructed.
Olivia’s P.O.V:
He had not returned.
She was awake and had been waiting for him. He was not there when they had dinner together with the grandpa. It was the most awkward moment of her life. Aside from clearing his throat ever and then, neither spoke anything. She would have never preferred to have dinner with him at the same table, especially when Thomas was not there. But the maid told her it was a rule in the house that they had to have dinner together.
She wanted to ask where Thomas was if that was the rule. Surely, he would have to be there if such a rule existed. But she remained quiet.
The grandpa only spoke when she was about to leave the table. She had stopped eating because she was so full. She had been eating fast so she could escape from the scene sooner, but James told her to sit when she was about to excuse herself.
“It is against the manner to leave the table before the head of the family is finished with the meal.” He gravely informed her with a frown on his face. She automatically sat on the chair while having an absurd reaction on her face.
She could not believe such a rule still existed. She never thought a guy like Thomas belonged to such a family.
“One more thing, I have hired a tutor who will aware you of the traditions and etiquette of our family. She will be here from tomorrow morning.” He ordered as he had just put out the most normal solution to her lack of “etiquettes”.
He did not even give her time to digest what he had said and vanished from the scene.
She sat there like a statue for a few minutes. She could not wrap her head around the fact that he had said that to her.
She did not know what she was getting herself into when she signed the contract. Nothing of that sort was mentioned in the paper. She was not required to do all those ridiculous shits his grandfather had just told her to follow.
Should she talk to Thomas about it? Should she tell the grandpa she would never go along with such a ridiculous idea of his?
She was confused as to what she should do. She got up from the table and went to her room—their room. Thomas had told her they were going to live in one room since he did not want to make the grandpa suspicious about the state of their relationship.
Great! Now they had to leave in a single room when the environment would be so awkward now. She had told him in clear words that they had to keep their distance. It was for the better. Her mind told her she did the right thing. But her heart was still stuck on the lack of emotions on his face when he agreed with her that they should indeed keep their distance.
She could not understand what she wanted although she knew deep down what she wanted.
It was so hard for her to decide. She had never been that way.
She changed into her PJs and lay on the bed waiting for him to return. She had thought that she would pretend to be asleep when he got inside the room. One: She felt awkward thinking about being in the same room. Two: She knew it would be an awkward atmosphere between them now.
She waited and waited, but he did not return. She was truly worried now.
Had something happened to him?
She tried to call him after debating if she should or not. She worried that he might think she was so confusing. At one point, she told him to stay away, and at another point, she was calling to know where he was.
But, she still dialed his number.
She was disappointed though. His phone appeared to be powered off.
“Where are you, Thomas?” She asked with a sigh clutching the phone tightly. She knew she would not be able to sleep now.
