Chapter 64: Chapter 64

She behaved so strangely sometimes. Thomas was finding it hard to get what she wanted. One time, she was pulling him closer, and then another time, she was pushing him away. He had never met a girl like her. What attracted him to her was the fact that she was such a strong-headed girl who knew what she wanted. She was determined.

But now, she was behaving in a matter that truly confused him. He knew something was wrong which she was hiding from him.

He had to know. He could not go on while being in the dark. It was not like he was getting irritated by her behavior. But she was not like herself for the past week, and he had noticed that about her.

He sighed and lay back on the couch thinking about the matter. It was true that he missed her when she was away from him. It was also true that he was attracted to her, and he was not going to deny it. He had accepted the fact long ago.

The thing was that she seemed uninterested in him. She avoided him like plague sometimes, just like how she did moments ago. Sure she seemed to enjoy herself whenever he got intimate with her, but that was all. Withing seconds, she would reverse back and run away.

‘Did she perhaps not want to go against the contract terms?’ He asked himself but shook his head at his own answer.

If it was about that, she would not have even responded to his advances, but she did.

There was something else that occupied her mind. He had to know.

He got up from the couch and went to his room passing hers. He debated with himself if he should get inside and ask her what was wrong, but he was aware that he was not going to get his answer. He went to take a shower and lay on bed.

The next day was a big day for them, specially for her. She was going to go to his grandpa’s house who did not approve of their marriage at first. He knew he would try to mock or even insult her just like how he did to his mom. But his mom was a strong lady. She did not let him get the best of her. He also knew that Olivia was a strong girl as well. Now, he was worried though.

He did not want her to suffer because of him. His grandpa would make her suffer for “luring” his grandson. He hated the guts of poor and middle-class people. Yet, Thomas knew he could not do anything. He had promised that they would live in his house if he let him marry Olivia.

On the other hand, Olivia was giving him a cold shoulder.

He was conflicted.

“Sana, do you know how worried I am? It is clear that he does not like me. How can I live under the same roof as him, knowing the fact that it is his house and he has the upper hand?” Olivia said worriedly as she talked to her best friend over the phone.

She knew that Grandpa James hated her. and now, she was going to live in his house. She tried to talk to Thomas about the matter, but she did not want to face him and be reminded of the previous night.

She was embarrassed. She was the one who encouraged him, but she was also the one who put a full stop to every time he made advances. He would think she was bipolar or something. It was not like she truly cared about what he thought of her, but she truly felt bad for being so confused.

‘But you do care about what he thinks.’ Her subconscious reminded her.

She ignored the little voice and got back to her conversation with Sana.

“Thomas will be there. Don’t worry. Just call me if that old man bothers you. I am a fighter you know. I have a black belt in Taekwondo” She was saying proudly as if she possessed one.

She shook her head with a smile. She knew how to calm her down.

“Pick my calls, will you?” She said rolling her eyes. The thing about Sana was that she never picked up her phone on time whenever somebody called her. She also tried to make fun of the situation because why not? It was not like she could refrain from going to his house.

And Thomas…he was out of sight for the whole night and the morning. She made breakfast for both of them, but he did not show up. After debating with herself for a moment, she went to check on him in his room. He was not there.

She did not know where he was. She thought to call him, but she thought the better of it. She decided not to make any advances by herself. It would jeopardize the situation even more. It was better that she kept everything to herself and also her distance from him.

It was for the best. She could not afford him to find out why she was worried and stressed.

For that purpose, she had to show herself as all happy and normal so he would not question her. She did not know for how long she would be able to hide when he was being so considerate and caring to her.

The previous night, he was so gentle and sweet. He wanted to wipe away her worries and also wanted to know if she was mad at something he had done. She could say anything. She was tongue-tied.

“Hey!!! Olive!!!” Sana yelled from the other end of the call almost tearing up her eardrums. She pulled away the phone for a moment before scolding her.

“Sana? What the hell?” She said with annoyance.

“You tell me! I have been blabbering for ten minutes, and you were not listening. What the hell?” She matched her energy making Olivia roll her eyes.

“Okay, talk to you later. I think Thomas has returned.” She said as she heard the door being opened. The call ended, and she stood up with anticipation.

She saw him entering with a grim expression. He was dressed in his office suit, so he must have gone to the office.

“Hey.” She said awkwardly with a smile. She was keen on showing him she was normal even after everything that had happened last night.

“Hey.” He greeted shortly as he came to the kitchen and poured himself a glass of water. It was already around lunchtime. She was not sure if she should make lunch or not. But she was so worried about leaving for grandpa’s house that it completely left her mind.

It was not like she wanted to make him lunch, but it helped her get her mind off things. She loved cooking.

He did not look mad so that was good news. But why would he be mad? She had a right whether she wanted to allow him in her life or not. That included intimacy as well.

The thing which was lacking on her side was that she kept encouraging him and then pulling back.

She should take a side and decide what she really wanted.

But the point was that it did not matter what she wanted. It was about what was for the best. And the best thing to do was not to make him suspicious that something was wrong. And not to let anything happen between them. It was all she should do.

Yes, that was what she was going to do.

“Are you ready to leave?” He asked with the same expression. He knew how to mask his expression. Or maybe, he did not feel anything. He was acting normally. Wasn’t that what she wanted? For him not to ask her what was wrong. Or not to ask why she acted the way she did the previous night.

“Yeah.” She said with a lack of enthusiasm evident on his face. He picked on her tone and wanted to smile, but he refrained.

He wanted to give her space so she would come to him whenever she felt like it. He wanted her to share her problems with him whenever she felt easy. There was nothing else he could do because he knew she was not comfortable sharing it with him at that moment.

He was ready to give her time and space if that was what she needed and wanted.

“I will get your bags. We are going to leave. We will have lunch there.” He informed them shortly and went to grab her bags from her room which she had packed in the morning. There were not a lot of bags since they only lived there for a month or so. Thomas had told her the other day that she did not need to take everything since they would live here from time to time. But their most of the days were going to be spent at grandpa’s palace.

She was going to miss it if she was being honest. Without even realizing it, she had gotten used to living in her own little, but not so little, personal space with Thomas.

She also did not realize that living with Thomas was not a big deal anymore. She included him in her personal space. It was a big feat that she was yet to acknowledge.
