Chapter 62: Chapter 62
“Amelia, who’s there?” She heard her mom’s voice from the room. She had forgotten that she must have been waiting for her to return.
“It’s Thomas.” She yelled from the living room. She looked at Thomas who was looking at her with an undecipherable expression on his face. He sighed and got up.
“We will pick up from where we have left.” He said with the same grim expression on his face and walked ahead of her towards the room. She did not know she was holding her breath until she released it.
She followed him to the room and saw him crouched down towards Amelia, and her mom was caressing his hair. He was also smiling at her.
‘When did they get so close?’ She thought to herself. She never thought he would be close to her mom.
But he was always beside her since she got sick. During her surgery, he did not leave her side even for a few hours. She would always be grateful to him for the care and affection he showed to her and her mom.
“I am glad that you are okay now.” He told her mom who was smiling at him. He had sat beside her on the bed.
“Thank you for everything that you did.” Her mom was aware of the fact that he was the person who arrange the money for her surgery and also the one who arranged those doctors. She did not know that he did it due to the contract she had made with him. It was the basis of their marriage after all.
She saw him shaking his head, “What matters is for you to get healthy. I am like your son. Does one thank their son?” He tried to make a joke out of it making love shine in Amelia’s eyes. She never thought she would get a son like him. She was so thankful that her daughter had found a gem for herself.
“You are my son.” She smiled making Thomas smile as well. Olivia’s heart clenched painfully thinking that it was all just a show.
No! she did not think what Thomas was doing was a show. But it was part of the show which they had displayed in front of everyone. Thinking about how everyone would be hurt at the end because of their lie was driving her crazy. The same Olivia who used to think hundred times before lying for a small thing was now betraying everyone. All their beloved ones were bound to get hurt in the end.
‘What about you?’ Her heart whispered.
She had no answer to that question. It was bound to happen. She was bound to get hurt at the end.
She excused herself and went to the kitchen to make some snacks. Thomas rarely stayed at her place, so she ought to make him something.
She was making tea and some sandwiches when she felt his presence behind her.
He did not make any noise, but she knew it was him just by the smell of his perfume. He smelled heavenly whenever he showered and used that perfume right after. She had no idea she had been noticing him that much.
She turned around and found him quite close—closer than she would have liked. It was not like she got uncomfortable by his presence. But the thing was that she did not want his proximity at a time when a lot of things were occupying her mind.
“I was making some club sandwiches.” She said due to the awkward air that surrounded the kitchen. He was not saying anything. He was just staring at her wordlessly. She had no idea what was running through his mind.
She had her back to him, but she knew that he was moving closer. She felt her breath stuck in her throat as his powerful, masculine, and amazing scent consumed her senses even more strongly. He placed both of his hands around her hips on the counter. Her hands, which were busy placing the egg on the toast, froze.
“Why are you avoiding me?” He asked again as she felt his warm breath on her neck sending shivers down her spine. Her breath felt so hot—as if his lips were touching her skin. But they were not.
“I am not avoiding you.” She tried to sound firm but failed miserably as her voice trembled a little. Why was she nervous? She heard him ‘tsk’ from behind.
“Grandpa said that he wants us in the main house.” He informed me while remaining in the same position—not touching, not doing anything but remaining close.
She felt like he had just poured hot water all over her head. She was not ready. She was not ready to leave her mom. She was not ready to bury everything she had come to know about their connected past and go with him. She was not ready to live with her grandpa.
“I want to stay here for a few more days.” She said hoping he would not object. He was in no position to object. Getting married did not mean that he had the upper hand over her. Besides, they were not married. He could not demand things from her.
But the thing was that she was not just married to him. She was in a contractual marriage with him. There he was being sincere with the partnership but she was not doing it. She knew it very well. She could not avoid doing her part forever though.
She felt her sigh and get away from her space. She let out a sigh of her own.
“I have delayed it for enough time already. He is persistent. He wants us there.” He said in a final tone. He was not in the mood to argue just as she was not in the mood to talk to him. She was being difficult for unknown reasons. He did not even know what he did wrong for her to act that way towards him.
There was something that she was not telling him. It bothered him, but he knew he could not talk at her mom’s place. He would get her to spill when he got her alone.
The truth was that her silence and nonchalance were bothering him more than he would allow. And he had missed her presence around him more than he thought he would.
He had never allowed him to be ruled by emotions, but he was facing that situation since she got away from him for the past weeks. He missed her walking around the living room after dinner and calling it a workout. He missed her staying in the kitchen to make dinner and tea for him. He missed looking at her face and feeling her positive energy all over the apartment. Although they stayed in their rooms, he could feel her from across their rooms. He could sense her presence.
He came to know about it once she was not there with him. He could not put into words how much he missed her presence.
And now, she was avoiding him. He did not even know the reason why.
She was okay in the hospital before and during the surgery. Whatever bothered her must have happened after that. He was just frustrated that she was not sharing anything with him. They surely did not have the perfect relationship for them to share everything. But he was hoping she would open up to him more.
At that moment though, he just wanted her to go with him. She looked determined to keep avoiding him. He hopped narrating grandpa’s order would make her come with him. But she still looked persistent.
She huffed and narrowed her eyes at him. He looked at her questioningly, but she wiped her hands with the tissue paper and left the kitchen without a word. She did not even look at him.
He was left baffled. He took a look at the poor, unfinished sandwiches. She must have been mad as she left everything just like that.
The tea was brewing so he poured himself some. He would be his host now that she had left him in the cold…kitchen.
The weather was changing. It was getting chilly. He craved tea more than ever.
He was sipping on his tea when he saw her coming out of the room with her bag after a while. She had that bag with her when she left for the hospital.
He smiled at the way her brows furrowed. She was not happy to leave but he had no option. He could not help her with that.
One: His grandpa strictly told him he wanted them in the house by tomorrow.
Two: He missed her.
It was funny that he did not feel anxious while accepting that fact. He was not easy with being all emotional, but he was doing just that. She had changed him for sure. And he was not scared at all.
“Let me see mom for a second.” She said grumpily as she went to her mom’s room. He felt bad that he was making her leave her mom when she had just had her surgery, but he had no choice.
She came out after a while. He had already bidden farewell to Amelia and that he was leaving so he went ahead of her and grabbed her bag. No word was spoken between them as she followed him out quietly.
He could not fight the smile that broke out on his lips. He was feeling guilty for making her leave, but he was also happy that he would get to spend time with her, finally.
She was not happy though. The poor, unfinished, and abandoned sandwiches told a lot about her state of misery.
