Chapter 9: Chapter 9

Chapter Nine: I think I’m Pregnant

Nyla

I woke up feeling nauseous and to a sleeping Kyle, whose hand was wrapped tightly around my waist spooning me. Smiling to myself, I quietly got up so that I wouldn't wake him. Picking up my phone from the nightstand, I saw that there were two texts from my best friends Kate and Kayla.

They had each sent a message in our group chat, saying that we should meet up at Joe's bar in an hour. Shooting back a quick text I replied, “sure, see you in an hour. I have news.”

Placing the phone back on the nightstand, I walked to the bathroom where I stripped out of my clothes and stepped into the shower. Turning it on, I placed my hand under the water to test the temperature. Seeing that it was warm, I went under and allowed it to run over my body. While the water cascades down my body, I began to mentally think about the symptoms that I have been experiencing for about two months now.

These symptoms of fatigue, urinating a lot, tender, and swollen breast, vomiting. It was all there, which made me realize that it wasn’t a stomach bug but a possibility of pregnancy. The only symptom that was left to confirm my suspicion was a missed period. I haven't checked my calendar yet to find out whether I'm late or not. Soaping up my body, I allowed my mind to wander back to when Kyle and I first became intimate, which was two months ago. That night we met at the bar and he brought me home and we had sex, we didn’t use any protection, and yesterday when he came over, we didn’t use any protection again which meant that pregnancy was inevitable.

How could we both be so careless with protecting ourselves? I cursed myself. We haven’t even started an official relationship yet and neither have I signed the contract. I guessed we were both too caught up in our sexual desires, that we just skipped right to the sex without thinking about the aftermath. Now I'm pregnant for a man who I think doesn’t love me for me but my body.

Here I was thinking about maybe or maybe not being pregnant when I may or may not have any sexually transmitted disease or infection due to our lack of protection. Oh God, I hope he is clean because I sure am and if I find out that I have any diseases, I would surely cut his dick off.

Rinsing off the soap from my body, I stepped out of the shower and grabbed one of my towels that were hung on the towel rack before wrapping it around my slim frame. Walking out of the bathroom, I picked out some clothes from my drawer and put them on. Taking out a sheet of paper from a book that was nearby, I wrote a note to him that said, “gone out for a few hours, see you when I get back.” Putting in on the nightstand, I walked out of the room and down the hall where I closed the door behind me and walked to the taxi stand where I hailed a cab.

Reaching the bar, I paid the cab driver and got out. As soon as I stepped out of the cab I was greeted by my two overly excited best friends that I haven't seen since Kyle and I got together. Kate, Kayla, and I have been friends for as long as I could remember. They were the complete opposite of each other. Kate was shy, smart, and sarcastic and doesn't fall in love easily while Kayla was nice, realistic, and hardly sarcastic. I had known Kayla longer than I knew Kate.

Kate and I were introduced by a mutual friend and we sorted clicked from there out. When I had introduced Kayla to Kate, I could feel some tension between the two, they would always get into minor arguments about the simplest things and also about me. They would always argue about who was giving me the best advice and who was not when I asked them for advice. After long talks with the both of them, the arguments had subsided and now the three of us were best friends.

“Hey guys, can we please go inside. I'm chilly and I have to tell you guys something very important,” I said to them. Looking at them, I saw that they were staring at each other for a couple of seconds before their heads were whipped around in my direction giving me a “I’m curious about what you have to say” look. Grabbing their hands, one on each side of me, we walked inside the bar.

Looking around, we saw that the bar was noisy and packed with couples, singles, and friends all drinking, laughing, and flirting. Walking to the back, we found a booth that was empty due to a couple just leaving. Sitting down, we were quickly greeted by a bubbly waitress.

“What can I get for you, girls?” The waitress asked.

“Apple martini for me,” came Kate’s reply.

“Apple vodka for me,” Kayla said.

“Water for me,” was my simple reply.

Writing down our orders, the waitress said she will be back with our beverages in the next five minutes before excusing herself.

“Humph, that's strange how are you not ordering your usual vodka?” Kate asked.

Their eyes were boring into me while they awaited my reply and it made me nervous. How was I going to tell them that I had a one-night stand with someone, then he asked me to be his sex slave, and then I found out recently that I may be pregnant. I asked myself

“I' think I’m pregnant,” I blurted out suddenly.

“What the fuck?!” Came Kayla’s reply while Kate was gasping in shock.

Shooting Kayla, a death glare I told her to quiet down because we were in a public place and persons within earshot were looking at us with disgust plastered over their faces. Looking at them, Kate rolled her eyes while Kayla flipped them off. Laughing to myself, that was so typically her.

“So, can you tell us why do you think you’re pregnant and by whom?” Kate asked, getting back to the issue at hand.

“I met this guy. His name is Kyle and we met about two months ago at this same bar. He asked me to dance with him and things got a little carried away and heated so he brought me home to his house, which was huge. We had unprotected sex and a day later he asked me to be his sex slave. I accepted his offer and then yesterday, we had unprotected sex yet again and this morning when I was eating, I had to rush to the bathroom to throw up. I have been throwing up for some time now, urinating a lot and my breasts are swollen and I’m always tired.”

“Is this the short version of your story? Because I feel that there is something you’re not telling us so spill.” Kayla said.

“I’m in love with him,” I finally admitted to someone out loud. “He doesn’t know that I am and I am afraid to tell him because I fear he would reject me, and now I may be pregnant and I don’t know how to tell him because he doesn’t seem interested in me romantically. What should I do guys?”

“Have you guys spend any time together?” Kayla asked.

“Otherwise from sexually, no we haven’t.”

“So how did you come to the conclusion that you’re in love with him?” Kate asked.

“Haven’t you guys heard about love at first sight?”

“No,” Kayla shouted while Kate shouted the opposite. Rolling their eyes at each other, I shook my head at both of them.

“Well that’s what happened, I fell for him at first sight.”

“You’re falling in love is so strange and well, for starters, if you’re in love with him, you should tell him how you feel about him and hear what he has to say. If you are going to be afraid to tell him, you will not know how he truly feels.” Kayla said.

“Thank you captain obvious” I replied while rolling my eyes at her. “Thank you for telling me something that I have already thought of. Holding up her hands in surrender, she took her drink from the waitress who just arrived and sipped on it; paying the bill I also took my water and drank it.

“Nyla what you just told us is a lot to take in. What I can honestly say is that I don’t agree with Kayla; you should see what he feels for you first before you spill all your feelings. You don’t want what happened with your ex-boyfriend Eric to happen again right?”

That last sentence was all it took to dampen my already bad mood. “Why did you have to bring that up, you’re such a bitch sometimes. That was a long time ago. I’m sure she remembers what happened, she doesn’t need you to bring up things from the past.” Kayla angrily spat.

“Well, I’m sorry if I was just being honest Kayla.” Kate retorted.

“Excuse me, I’m the one being honest and real here, she needs to tell him so they can figure things out sooner rather than later.” Here they go again, arguing I honestly thought they were past that stage, but I guess I was wrong.

“Look, guys, we are in a public place; can we not do this here please?”

“You’re right and I’m sorry Nyla. I didn’t mean to upset you or to bring up back the past, I just wanted you to be careful that’s all.”

“It’s okay, Kate. I get it you don’t want me to make the same foolish mistake twice to repeat itself and there was no need to apologize, I know what you were trying to say and it’s okay. I just don’t want to hear his name or be reminded of him.”

“Did you take a pregnancy test or check your calendar to see if you missed your period?” Kayla asked. “That can help you to know if you’re pregnant so you can tell Kyle, and you guys figure out this together.”

“I understand Kayla, I messed up big time it wasn’t supposed to go like this, this wasn’t supposed to happen, to me, to us it was not what he expected when he asked me to be his sex slave.”

“You cannot blame yourself for this; this was both you and Kyle’s fault.”

“I know, but I should have made sure that he had a condom on so we could avoid all of this.”

“Nyla, stop blaming yourself, I think you should check your calendar now and then take a pregnancy test to confirm it.” Kate finally spoke up.

Drinking the rest of the water, I placed the glass on the table before I slowly reached for my phone that was in my pocket. With my hand shaking, I took it out and unlocked it. A message popped up from Kyle saying, “I went home, will see you tomorrow after you leave work.”

Smiling, I simply wrote back “okay” before closing the chat. Scrolling through the phone I pressed the calendar widget. Looking at the dates, I saw that my period was due ten days ago. I think I must have turned ashen white and zoned out because I heard Kayla and Kate, nervous voices in the distance asking if I was okay.

My suspicion had been confirmed, I was indeed pregnant.

In a quiet voice, I said to them, “I need to take a test, I'm ten days late.”
