Chapter 4: Chapter 4
Chloe and Alex was in the kitchen they saw how many times he looked in the direction of the kitchen while he was eating and even the glance he stole at the kitchen one last time before the door was closed behind him as he left.
" I told you he likes you " Alex said In a gotcha tone
Lunch time was over so the place wasn't crowded with customer anymore, the cleaners were cleaning and preparing the place for dinner time and most of the workers were on break including Alex and Chloe that is why it was easy to watch him while he ate without any one shouting at them to get their asses back to work
" Well are you not going to say anything ?" Alex asked impatiently
" What do you want me to say ?" Chloe replied her back with a question
" You can start by agreeing with me because there is no way in hell that that guy will keep stealing glances at this kitchen as if praying for you to come out if he does not like you"
" Okay maybe he likes me " she finally agreed with her because she knew arguing with Alex was pointless it was better you agree with her and have your peace of mind than argue with her, if Alex was to go to a university she will advice her to become a lawyer.
Alex frowned at her reply " Not maybe, girl he likes you"
" Okay fine yes I agree that he likes me " Chloe quickly agreed
" Great and am hearing wedding bells I can't wait to be a god mother" Alex said happily and Chloe choked on her siliva
Oh God why was this girl being so dramatic? the guy didn't even talk to her and Alex was already thinking of their marriage and her being their Childs God mother.
She shook her head her friend was crazy. She saw the hotels maitre'd urshering a party of four to a table and even though her break wasn't over she picked four menus and walked up to them just so she can escape from Alex and her talks about Cort Mason who was way beyond her league just like the devil on her shoulder said before.
Chloe didn't delude herself she knew this was the real world and thing's like what Alex was saying only happens in a Korean drama where the prince fall in love with the maid.
The time for Alex and Chloe to close from work and go home came , they went to the bathroom and changed out of their work clothes into the clothes they wore to work and left.
Since Alex's house was close to the metro station that Chloe was heading to they both walked together chatting happily about what have been going on in their lives for the past three months that they didn't see each other.
" Did you know that Mr Bradford fired me because I refused to become his girlfriend or sleep with him" Chloe told Alex
" What!! I thought he was married?" Alex asked
" Yeah he is married and not only that he has four kids"
" And he wants you to be his girlfriend, some men can be so stupid but I don't blame him anyways any man would wanna have a beauty like you" Alex told Chloe and she frowned
Was she really that beautiful to cause married men to want to cheat on their wife with her? Even though she was beautiful it doesn't mean that a married man should wanna cheat on his wife because of her.
She knew many men always run after her saying they love her and that she was beautiful but she didn't think so she always thought that they were trying to sweet talk her so that they can get in between her legs she ain't gonna let any man do that to her.
" But forget about that idiot Mr Bradford how did see your first day at work it's good right?" Alex asked Chloe looking at her face
" Well what can I say it was better than I expected, I love the place it's much more better than Mr Bradford's little restaurant it is a good thing that he fired me "
" I have to warn you Mia and Julianna are both crazy and wicked, Mia is dating the manager so she can get away with anything she does in the hotel so always ignore her because it was clear that she doesn't like you while Juliannas case is different if she disturbs you give her what she deserves and don't let her talk to you anyhow or she will start to oppress you if you want to last longer don't talk to much to the other staff members they are cool but they gossip a lot I have learned that in the hard way" Alex warned Chloe
" I came here to make money to pay for my mother's medication not gossip or idle around so I have gotten no time to sit and talk to anyone". Chloe told Alex
" good and by the way how is your mother?" Alex asked suddenly remembering the good Mrs Peterson who always talk to her and take care of her the time she was working with Chloe before she got the job she was now holding at five star hotel and had to move.
" She is getting better every day , she asked for you many times after you got a job and relocated"
" I miss talking to her and I will love to see her again maybe during my off I will visit her"
Alex and Chloe's mother became real close during the two weeks that Alex and Chloe did catering for a rich man who celebrated his chids naming ceremony , Alex was some one who loves talking and Mrs Peterson was some one who loves listening and since her daughter wasn't much of a talker she welcomed the young Alex company.
Mrs Peterson was usually at home because the doctor asked her to rest and not stress herself because of her sickness, she hardly came outside and they hardly had any visitors so the TV and good books Chloe usually bring home from the library was her only companion so she welcomed Alex's company anytime. Most times the pair will talk for hours forgetting Chloe's presence.
The little time she spent with them made her know of Mrs Peterson's sickness and she knew how hard Chloe was working to pay for her mother's medication and to pay off debts her father left behind that was why she begged the manager to hold the job for Chloe.
" She is looking more healthy everyday but I don't want her falling sick again so am not going to allow her work but am not more afraid of her doing little things in the house anymore "
" Am glad to hear that" Alex said feeling happy that Mrs Peterson was getting better and her friend Chloe do not have to think too much about leaving only her mother at home because she knew how Chloe use to call her mother every seconds three months ago to check on her when she was not at home .
Soon they got to the front of the Alex's street and have to bid each other good bye and go their separate ways, Alex went to her house while Chloe continued walking to the metro station where she would catch a train home.
There was no train when she got there and had to wait for almost two hours for before a train arrived and it took almost forty minutes for them to get to her stop.
She came down from the train and squinted her eyes as a bright light from a passing vehicle flashed at her.
After the vehicle passed everywhere became dark. It was almost eleven and there was no light on the way.
The street was empty because everyone have retired to their various houses, Chloe knew how dangerous it was for a girl to be walking alone at that time of the night in her area so she began to walk fast she have heard do many stories and don't want to be a victim also.
She became frightened when she saw the shadow of two people coming behind her and it didn't look like the shadow of women it looks like the shadow of two men. She quickly increased her pace and began to walk faster than before.
From their shadows she saw them increase their pace too and she became more frightened oh God they were following her. She took to her heels running like the devil was after her and maybe he was, her breath caught in her throat when she looked back and saw them chasing after her.
She was one of the best runner during her high school days because of her long legs and small size but today she nearly forgot how to run and stumbled many times before she round the corner into her street.
She nearly wept for joy when she caught sight of her house and the sight alone fueled her with more strength to keep running she didn't turn back anymore to see if they were still behind her.
She kept running untill she got to her gate, she pushed it open and closed it with a bang and bolted it. She fell on her knees breathing heavily she have never been this tired even after running a marathon race before neither have she been this frightened.
And because she didn't want her mother to worry if she saw her the way she was she stayed in that position for almost fifteen minutes before she was able to stable her breathing then she went inside.
Damnit she have already made her mother worried because she haven't called her the whole day and she have never stayed this long outside before.
