Chapter 79: Chapter 79
As Andrea was about to take a step towards her mother, someone tapped her from behind. She slowly turned around and glanced at Sean.
"Why are you crying? What happened?" he asked as he cupped her cheeks in his hand.
"Sean, my mother- look, my mom is standing over there," she turned again to look at her mother only to find her leaving the store.
She quickly ran after her, ignoring Sean who was calling out to her. Immediately she got out of the convenience store she found her mother standing by the roadside waiting for a taxi. Andrea smiled brightly with tears streaming down her cheeks. She walked closer to her in light footsteps until she was standing right behind her.
"Mom!" She called her softly.
Mrs Williams slowly turned around and cast a glance at Andrea with a puzzled look. "Excuse me, you must be mistaken," she said with a faint smile.
The way Mrs Williams looked at Andrea like a total stranger hurt her deeply, regardless of the fact that seeing her mother, whom she hadn't seen for 20 years, made her overwhelmed with joy.
"Mom, it's me Andrea," she said in a hoarse voice while wiping the tears that were falling on her cheeks.
"Andrea?" She repeated, as if trying to recall where she had heard the name. "I'm sorry, I don't know you. This will be my first time meeting you."
"Huh? Mom, it's me, your daughter Andrea. How can you not remember me? You don't need to pretend, I promise I'm not mad at you anymore for abandoning me all these years, but don't try to deny me like this," Andrea cried out and attempted to hug her.
Mrs Williams pushed her away roughly, causing Andrea to stumble. She shut her eyes, waiting for the impact, but luckily, Sean caught her before she could fall to the ground.
"Please talk some sense into this lady. I don't know her, and she keeps referring me to her mother. Is she mentally ill or what? If so, she should be locked up before she harms someone," Mrs Williams feigned innocence.
Andrea broke herself from Sean's embrace and stepped closer to her mother. "Mom, please just drop the act already. How can you forget me? Okay, let's assume you do, you remember your sister, right? Mom Tessa. You left me with her years back. Please try to remember," she pleaded and firmly held onto her mother's shoulder.
"Enough! I said I'm not your mother, you crazy lady," Mrs Williams yelled through gritted teeth as she threw Andrea's hands from her shoulder.
After flagging down a taxi, Mrs Williams got in and left Andrea completely lost and shattered. She slumped on the ground and buried her face in her thighs as she whimpered uncontrollably.
Sean sighed silently. "Andrea, you need to relax. Please stop crying, my love," he squatted down and pulled her into his embrace.
She hugged him tightly and buried her face in his chest. "Why did she act like that towards me? What did I do wrong to deserve this from my own mother?"
Sean stroked her hair, trying to appease her. "You did nothing wrong, Andrea. How about this, I will get her to speak to you, and then you will get all the answers you always wanted from her, okay?"
"You will do that for me?" She slowly raised her head from his chest and avoided looking into his eyes.
"Mhm-hm, but first of all, you have to promise me you won't cry anymore, neither think about what happened tonight. Just look at you, your eyes are puffy already," he raised her chin slightly and wiped her tears with his thumb.
She nodded and took Sean's hand away from her face before getting up on her feet. "Please don't look at me. I'm sure I look ugly right now," she sniffled and looked away from him.
Sean smiled and wrapped his arms around her waist. "You look very cute," he assured her and placed a kiss on her forehead.
"Come on, let's head back. Elena texted, saying they couldn't wait for us, so they already went back to the hotel."
Their ride back to the hotel in the taxi was in total silence; they all had different thoughts running through their minds.
"I will go bring the kids from Lena's room," Andrea finally broke the odd silence as they both stood in the hallway.
Sean nodded and brought out his cell phone and dialed a number. It rang for a while before it got connected.
"What took you so long to answer your phone? By the way, I need you to get me all the information there is about Andrea's mother. I feel there's something fishy about her," Sean said as soon as Drew answered the call.
"Yes, boss. I will do that right away and get back to you as soon as possible," Drew politely replied.
Sean hung up and went straight into their room. Shortly after, he heard a knock on the door. He quickly went over and opened it up.
Andrea forced out a smile at him. She was looking very pale and restless. That bright smile she always had on her face was gone.
Sean took the kids from her. "Andrea, you don't have to worry. I already gave you my word. I want you to go to bed, and I will give the kids their bottles."
"It's okay. I'm fine. I will go to bed now," she squeezed out a smile and laid down on the bed with her eyes shut.
After giving the babies their bottles and putting them to sleep, he stared at Andrea, who was curled up in bed. He took the quilt and covered her up with it.
He laid beside her and pulled her into his embrace. "Goodnight, my love," he whispered while caressing her hair.
Sean came into the room, holding a tray containing her breakfast. "Are you sure you don't want to have breakfast with Elena?" he asked, placing the tray on the coffee table.
"I'm sure. I don't want Elena to worry about me," she replied dryly, uncovering her breakfast.
"Really? Why do I feel you care more about Elena than me? You don't want her to worry, but you are letting me worry about your welfare," Sean teased.
Andrea held his hand. "Elena has problems of her own, and I don't want to sum it up with mine. Moreover, you are my life partner, my soulmate, and if you don't worry about me, who else will?"
Upon hearing this, Sean felt special. "You are right, love. Don't you think she would become suspicious of you?"
"I don't mind. There's nothing Lena doesn't know about me. She's my childhood friend, but please don't tell her about what happened last night. I will just come up with a lie that I'm feeling ill."
"Okay then, come on, eat up," he urged her hurriedly.
"Sean, do you think my mother has totally forgotten about me, or was she only pretending? Maybe she just felt embarrassed," Andrea asked, looking worried.
"I told you I always dreamt of going on a trip to Paris with my soulmate, and you helped me achieve it. The thing is, my dream is not only to come here with my soulmate but to also see my mother. It was like double achievement to me last night."
"Wait, you always knew that your mother was here in Paris?" he demanded with a hint of surprise.
She nodded before saying, "Most people in my shoes would despise their mother so much for abandoning them, but you know, I also hated my mother a lot until I saw her last night. That hatred somehow turned into a thing of joy and excitement."
"Have you always been this sweet and innocent? You still miss her so much after everything she made you go through."
Andrea gave a bitter smile. "I just wanted to know what a mother's love feels like," she muttered.
"I'm sorry you had to go through all this. I promise I will never hurt you no matter what happens in the future," he said this to himself.
His phone began to ring. Seeing Drew's name as the caller ID gave him the idea that he must have found out some information.
