“ I’ll tell you but first, I need a cup of hot tea” He Said looking at Mary. “ Alright, give me a minute” Bella quickly made him a cup of hot chocolate tea and handed it to him. She sat on a chair looking at the Assistant who was sipping the tea slowly. “ I’m listening” She said.
“ They were robbed” He said. “ Robbed? How? Where?” Bella asked Shockingly. “ On their way coming back from the party. They were so lucky we found them if not, it would have been an history” Bella shook her head, she felt pity for both Mara and her Mum. “ Poor Mara, she has been crying for an hour now. I’m sure she’s traumatized from that” Bella said sadly. Mary didn’t say a word, she stood there looking at them jealously as she listened to the Assistant.
“ Hey Mary” Bella called and Mary turned to her. “ What?” she asked. “ Why is your face that way?” Bella asked her and she Scoffed. “ I don’t know” She said and walked out of the kitchen. “ Wow! What’s with her?” She asked the Assistant and he smiled. “ I don’t know” He stood up and followed her out of the kitchen. “ What’s with them” Bella sighed and started washing the dishes.
“ I’ll call the Doctor” Alfred said looking at Mara who was sleeping on Vanessa’s chest. “ Why?” Vanessa asked. “ I want him to check Mara, she looks traumatized” He said looking at Mara’s face. “ No she’s fine” Vanessa said and Alfred sighed. “ No she’s not, I’ll go give him a call” He turned to leave but Vanessa stopped him. “ You don’t have to, thanks” She said. He turned back slowly and his eyes fell on hers. “ Why? He’ll only examine her and nothing more” He said. “ I said you don’t have to. we are not interested and besides, we’ll be living now” Vanessa said trying to stand up from the bed.
“ It’s already late and still raining outside. Do you want to endanger her again?’ Alfred said as he was getting pissed off. “ Endanger? Did you just said Endanger? How did I Endanger her?” She asked him and he moved a little close to them. “ What would you call this if not Endanger? Mara is in this state because of you! You should stop being selfish” Alfred said in Anger. Vanessa was pained by those words, she’d been trying all her best to provide everything for Mara and someone called her selfish. She lay Mara down slowly and stood up from the bed.
“ Did you just called me selfish? On what Aspect am I been selfish?” She asked him. “ If only you listened to me when I wanted to Bring you home from that party, all this wouldn’t have Happened. You took Mara to that party from the first place because of your Selfish Interest, Do you think I’ll go behind you and take her? Do you think the guy you’re living with would bring her to me?” He snarled. Vanessa was moved to tears but she controlled it, she didn’t want him to see the soft side of her.
“ How dare you talk to me that way? Do you know the pain i had to endure for three years now? Do you know what you put me through after that night? I was disowned, I was chased out of the house when they found out I was pregnant. I had to fend for myself, I moved in to another city where I knew no one. Even with pregnancy, I worked so hard to survive. I sacrificed my happiness for Mara, I want her to be happy. I’m doing everything for her sake and you dare called me Selfish? You claim to be her Father but what have you given her? Do you think you can replace the love I have for my daughter? You didn’t look for the girl you Dis virgin that night! You appear out of nowhere and tries to see my fault? How dare you!” Vanessa pushed him back, she was pained and she couldn’t control her tears again.
She let them fall freely to ease her aching heart. Alfred was shocked, he wished he hadn’t say those words to her but the deed has been done. She carried Mara from the bed and turned to Alfred.
“ Stay out of our lives, Do not come looking for us” She Yelled at him and stormed out of the room. Alfred was stuck in that spot, he wanted to move but his legs wouldn’t comply with him. He watched as Vanessa left the room angrily. She went down the stairs cleaning the tears on her face, The Assistant and Mary were both in the sitting room looking at the stairs. They heard everything Alfred and Vanessa said in the room because their voices were so high.
“ Sorry miss but….” Vanessa interrupted the Assistant. “ None of you should come after us again!” She yelled at them and left the house. The rain had stopped falling, Vanessa made her way to the gate. It was already dark but the house was filled with lights that you could think it was daytime. The security man opened the gate for her and as soon as she stepped out, a cab drove by and she stopped him.
Vanessa sat on the back with Mara sleeping on her thighs, She was crying and holding her chest with her left hand. She was pained by those words, she has had enough of those insult from different people but she never believed the man that deprived her of her joy could say those hurtful words to her.
Derek was outside waiting for Vanessa to Return. His mind wasn’t at rest when the rain started, he tried calling her line but it was switched off. As he saw Vanessa coming out of the car with Mara, he ran to them and took Mara from her.
