Chapter 22: Chapter 22
"HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET IN MY HOUSE?" Carter waved the key that I gave him in sixth grade up in the air. "What are you doing here?" I screamed. Carter laughed and he stopped walking towards me. He was about a foot away from me.
"I just wanted to come and visit my favourite girl," He told me. I backed up.
"What, so you can start your friends with benefits relationship with me?" I fired back. Carter lightly chuckled and shook his head. I started biting my nails.
"Now where would you get an idea like that?" Carter asked me. He crossed his arms over his chest and stared at me. I stared back as I slowly backed up towards the stairs that leads up to my phone. "Did Shane feed you that little lie?"
"That little lie? You're joking right?" I scoffed.
"I just want to talk to you, that's all." Carter said. I shook my head.
"Well, I don't want to talk to you. You've changed Carter; you've changed a lot and I don't like it." I told him. "Now, I think you need to leave," I pointed to the door. Carter shook his head and laughed.
"I can't do that, no until you listen to what I have to say." Carter said. I took a deep breath. I know Carter's made some mistakes, but I don't hate him. He was my best friend. I might as well listen to what he has to say and then I can make him leave before Shane gets here.
"Fine. I'll listen. But, afterwards you have to leave." I stated firmly. Carter smiled.
"I knew you would say that." He sat down on the couch and then pulled his phone out of his pocket. He typed something in it and only a moment later there was someone knocking at my back door. "I'll be right back," He said before he got up and jogged to the back door.
I pulled my phone out of my back pocket and slid it under my thigh- just in case.
"Is she really going to talk to us?" I recognized the voice... Ryder. I heard a muffled answer and then shuffling in the kitchen. Carter returned with Ryder trailing behind him. They both sat down in front of me.
"Get him out of my house. I might still have a little bit of respect for you, Carter, but not for him. Get him out. I will not talk to him." I crossed my arms over my chest and watched Ryder. He sat back and stared at me.
"Why not?" Ryder asked.
"Because you're a no good lying cheater, that's why!" I exclaimed. Ryder shook his head and chuckled.
"Just hear us out, that's all we're asking." Carter tried to reason. I rolled my eyes, but didn't say anything. Carter looked at Ryder and nodded.
"Shane's using you." My jaw dropped. Is that really what they came here to tell me? They really thought that I was going to believe them? "He's doing to you the same thing he did to Emily." Emily... the girl who broke Shane in the first place!
"You're joking right? You expect me to believe you?"
"You don't? Do you want to know what really happened between Shane and Emily? The truth?" Ryder asked. I shook my head.
"I've already heard the truth." I argued.
"No you haven't. All Shane wanted from Emily was sex. He didn't really love her. Emily used to come to me crying because she knew that Shane didn't love her. Emily came to me crying all the time. I was there to comfort her, to help her. I couldn't help that she loved me more than him." Ryder said. I refuse to believe him. Shane loved Emily, she was his whole world and if she knew that Shane didn't love her, then why wouldn't she just end it with him?
"You're lying. You dated Emily because you're selfish, not because you wanted to help her." I said.
"Kaelyn, I'm not lying. How many times has Shane gotten mad at you because you don't want to go that far?" Ryder asked me.
"Why should I tell you?"
"Because, it will help prove that he's using you."
"Well, for you information he's never done that. Not once. Does that help with your case Judge Coleman?"
"You still don't believe me? Kaelyn, I just don't want what happened in the past to happen again!" Ryder cried.
"Well if it does, you're not the one I'm going to come crying to." I said fiercely. Carter and Ryder looked at each other before they both stood up.
"Fine. Don't believe me. I just want you to know one more thing; no matter how many times he's told you he's changed... he really hasn't." Ryder stood up. "I'm going around back to get the car," he mumbled.
"I'll be there in a minute." Carter said to Ryder. Carter then turned to me. "Kaelyn..."
"I don't want to hear it,"
"Just, be careful. I know you have like- no respect for me yet but, I'm sorry for everything I've done. Just be careful around him please. I saw how hurt you were after Ryder cheated on you. I don't want to see you hurt like that again." Carter put a hand on my shoulder and looked me in the eyes for a few moments before leaving.
Shane's POV
I dropped Kaelyn off at her house and then quickly drove to the bridge. I wonder what Vincent needs me for this time. I can't wait until tonight. I've been at Kaelyn's house almost every week this night and... just wow. She's perfect. I really say that about her a lot.
I pulled up to the old wooden bridge and got out of my car. After making sure that the car was locked I jogged down the rock covered hill down to the river. I found Vincent, Gage, and even Kyle waiting for me. Gage and Vincent were downing a beer, but Kyle was just sitting down on a rock.
"That girl has to be lying. There is no way in hell that you got her pregnant." I overheard Vincent say. I furrowed my eyebrows. Was he talking to Gage? No way.
"I know! I don't want to believe her, but I can't remember if I used a condom that night or not! God dammit." Gage threw his arms up in the air. Yep, Vincent was definitely talking to Gage.
"Hey you fuckers! What's this about Gage getting some girl pregnant?" I asked as I went to take a seat next to Vincent.
"Hah, you missed it? Some girl, Sierra I think that's her name, messaged him on Facebook and then told him that they needed to talk. Would you like to tell Shane the rest of the story?" Vincent laughed. Why is he laughing? This is serious.
"I told her, 'okay' and then gave her my number and she called me and told me that she was pregnant and she knows that it's my baby because I'm apparently the only one she's ever slept with!" Gage looked like he was about to explode.
"Dude, calm down. It's alright." I eased.
"No, I can't calm down! I just got news that could potentially ruin my life!" Gage threw his empty beer bottle in the dirt, shattering it into a million pieces.
"Maybe she's wrong. Has she gone to the doctor yet?"
"Yes! And the doctor told her that she is in fact having a baby!"
"Oh... well, you're screwed." I said.
"Maybe. I don't know. I'm too angry to think right now. Here, have a beer," Gage was about to throw me one when I shook my head.
"I can't, not after last Friday. I'm going to spend the night with Kaelyn tonight and I don't want to go back to her drunk." I explained. Vincent and Gage laughed.
"You sure are going soft for this girl. What happened to the Shane I used to know?" Vincent hit my arm and laughed.
"Yeah, what happened the bad ass guy we used to know?" Gage asked.
"What can I say? I've changed." I laughed. I glanced over at Kyle, he was sort of just staring off into space. I felt my phone in my pocket start to vibrate and I excused myself from the group. I looked at the caller ID, Kaelyn.
"Hey babe."
"Hi," I smiled. Just hearing her voice made me smile.
"I'll be there in about forty-five minutes," I said into my phone.
"Oh um... You don't have to come over tonight. I'm kind of in a bad situation right now. Sierra called me crying and I told her that she could spend the night tonight. I'm sorry. I'll call you later okay?" She told me. I sighed.
"Alright. I hope you can help Sierra with her problem," I said even though I have no idea who Sierra really is. "Bye beautiful. I love you," I said. I immediately bit my tongue. I've never told her that before.
"I-I love you too. Bye," Her voice was shaky. I heard a beep and then I realized that she hung up. I put my phone back in my pocket and then re-entered the group.
"Who's Sierra? Is she THE Sierra?" Vincent asked.
"THE Sierra?" I questioned.
"THE Sierra that told me the horrendous news?" Gage asked. My jaw dropped. Maybe that is the Sierra Gage got pregnant... that would really make a lot of sense... wow. Okay.
"I don't know..." I shook my head.
"Oh," Was all I heard Gage say.
"Well, it looks like I'm staying here. I'll take that beer now." I grinned. Gage smirked and tossed me the beer. I finished it within four minutes. Let's just make sure I'm able to drive myself back home...
