Chapter 21: Chapter 21

"And... one more second... ah, perfect," Shane mused. He put the rock on the ground and stepped back to admire his work. I giggled as I jumped down off of the tree branch I was sitting on.

Shane and I have been dating for a week and I've never been happier. He's just- He's so perfect. I've lost a lot of contact with Carter, but I don't really want to talk to him. The way he was acting all last week scared me and I don't want him to be near me anytime soon. The word around the school is that he's got a broken nose from the fight that took place last week at Gage's party, oh well. I haven't been talking to Sierra and Grace as much. They still don't think it was a good idea for me to say yes to Shane; they're kind of mad at me right now. Sierra still hasn't told Gage about the baby and I really think she should. After getting to know Gage a bit more, he's not that bad of a guy.

Shane held out his hand and I grabbed it, pulling him to my side. He smiled and kissed my forehead.

"I love it," I wrapped my arms around his waist. I stared at the carving. Shane had carved our initials, with a heart around them, into a large oak tree at his parent's special place. I guess you could call the place our secret now.

"Now this is officially our place," Shane spun around on his heels and looked at our surroundings. The trees are almost leafless and the wind is blowing my hair into my face. I was just about to open my mouth to say something, but Shane's phone started to ring. Shane looked down at his front pocket and mouthed "sorry," to me and then he went to go take the call.

I sighed and sat down on one of the boulders. I watched as Shane paced around; I really wish that I knew who he was talking to. I started playing with my fingers and biting my lip. I felt someone's hands on my knees and then someone's lips were on mine. I smiled into the kiss. I slid down the rock so that Shane was pressing me up against it. When we broke the kiss I stole the beanie off of Shane's head.

"Hey!" He pouted. I rolled my eyes.

"What? My ears were cold," I smirked. Shane chuckled and wrapped an arm around my waist. "Who was on the phone?"

"Vincent. He wanted me to meet him under the bridge," Shane replied. I furrowed my eyebrows. Why would he want Shane to meet him under the bridge?

"Um... why?" I questioned.

"Who the hell knows," Shane chuckled.

"You can go if you need to," I told him.

"But, I want to stay with you babe," He whined.

"Shane, you can go meet up with your friends. I don't want to get in the way of that," I told him. I saw the corners of his mouth twitch up and he engulfed me in a hug.

"You're the best babe," Shane pecked my lips. He intertwined our fingers as we walked down the path to his car. "I'll drive you home first. I'll be back tonight though," He winked. I smacked his arm.

"Movies only," I told him.

"I know, I know." He grinned. I shook my head and bit my cheek to keep from laughing.

"I'll see you later beautiful," I smiled and looked up into his eyes. It was three o'clock at the moment on this Saturday afternoon.

"Get stoned and I will kill you, got it?" I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Yes mom," He rolled his eyes.

"I'm serious! You're bad enough when you're drunk!" Wow, that came out worse than I thought it would. "Don't take that in a bad way... gosh I'm sorry." I shook my head. Shane laughed and put his fingers on my chin, lifting up my head so I could stare into his eyes.

"Calm down. I won't do anything okay?" I nodded. "I'm going to miss you. Bye Kaelyn," Shane smiled. I stood on my tiptoes so I could give him a kiss before he left.

I watched as Shane backed out of the driveway. How can a human being do this to me? I started humming 'A Match Into Water' by Pierce The Veil as I unlocked the front door. When I opened the door what I saw almost stopped my heart.

I saw Carter sitting in my living room. He was just casually watching TV as if this was a normal thing for him. Actually this is a normal thing for him... or at least it was.

"CARTER?" I screamed. I saw him chuckle as he stood up and walked towards me.

"Hey Kae," He smirked.
