Chapter 18: Chapter 18

It smelled like cigarette smoke and stale alcohol at Gage's house. The music was so loud, the whole house was shaking from the noise. I feel bad for the neighbors. Everyone at the party was either drunk or high; this was not the kind of party I wanted to be at. But, I'm still here, as Shane's 'date'. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely happy that I'm Shane's date, I just wish that he would stop disappearing. So far, we've been here for three hours and I've lost him four times.

"Hey, babe, I'm going to go talk to Vincent. I'll be back later," He winked. I scrunched up my nose when the smell of alcohol reached my nose. Shane's been drinking too. I can't tell if he's drunk or not but one thing's for sure, I'm driving home tonight. I watched Shane stumble over to drunk-off-his-ass Vincent and they opened up another bottle of beer and chugged it down. I shook my head.

I just want to go home. This night has not been anything like I expected it would be. But, hey, what should I have expected?

I sat down on the couch and pulled my knees up to my chest. I have the worst headache ever. No, I have not been drinking. I just couldn't handle all the screaming, shouting, and the music all at once. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I opened my eyes and scanned the room. I glanced at the spot Shane was a second ago and found that he was no longer there with Vincent. Great. Make that five times I've lost him.

I was about to pull out my phone to call Michael so he could come pick me up; but before I could someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around and saw that it was Kyle, the newest member to the 'big bad four'.

"Hey, Kaelyn right? You're Shane's girlfriend?" He said questionably. Kyle sat down next to me and looked at me. I could tell that he hadn't been drinking or smoking because I couldn't smell anything on him.

"Yeah, I'm Kaelyn. But, I'm not Shane's girlfriend. I just came here as his 'date', but we haven't really talked all night. He keeps disappearing and when I refused to take a beer earlier he just shrugged and left." I sighed. Kyle nodded and looked at the ground.

"I only came tonight because I was told that I had to show up because I'm a part of the 'big bad four' or whatever they call us. I honestly hate parties like this and I would rather be at home." Kyle admitted. I kind of felt bad for him. You can tell he's not really the 'bad boy' type but, he still hangs out with the group. I guess that's high school for you.

"I know how you feel. I was about to call my older brother so he could come pick me up." I glanced at my phone and then quickly shoved it into my back pocket.

"I don't think that would be a good idea. I know Shane might be acting like an ass right now but, he really cares about you and it would really hurt him if you just left." Kyle explained. I nodded.

"You're right. I just- I don't know what I should do. I can't just sit here the whole entire night. I have a massive headache and ugh- this music sucks. Who decided to put on rap shit? Maybe I would actually be enjoying myself if we had some metal or rock or something, anything, better than this."

"I can fix your music problem but, I don't know about the headache. I'm sorry." Kyle said. He stood up and reached out his hand so he could pull me up off of the couch. We maneuvered  around all the drunken teenagers and after about three minutes of dodging beer being splashed on our clothes, Kyle and I finally reached the speakers. Kyle unplugged Gage's phone and replaced it with his own- before any of the partiers could complain.

Within seconds Kyle pulled up a playlist labeled, "Calming Music." I couldn't help but laugh. This boy is like my carbon copy in a boy's body.

Immediately the song, "Go To Hell For Heaven's Sake," by Bring Me The Horizon started blasting through the multiple speakers that were scattered around the house.

Kyle smiled at me, I returned the gesture. I watched as Kyle hid Gage's phone behind the curtains on the window sill, probably so nobody would steal it.

"Nice playlist. I love the name," I playfully teased. Kyle rolled his brown eyes and laughed.

"Well, it's true,"

"I know. I agree." I laughed.

"Kaelyn!" I felt someone's arms wrap around my waist. I looked down and saw the familiar sleeves of Shane's leather jacket. "I've been looking everywhere for you! Where have you been?"

"Right here, Shane. I just came to change the music." I replied.

"Oh. Hey babe, will you turn around?" Shane asked. I furrowed my eyebrows but did what I was told. I was now face to face with Shane. His once icy blue eyes were a dark shade of gray. Shane's intoxicated breath was hot on my face as he bent down to kiss me. One quick, little peck on the lips won't hurt right? Wrong. Once our lips touched I was about to pull away when Shane moved his mouth closer to mine, while at the same time he backed me up against the wall. I didn't like where this was headed. It was different when we did made out like this when he was sober but, I didn't feel comfortable doing this when he was drunk. I tried to push Shane off of me but he held me tighter, his nails were digging into my skin.

"Shane stop, you're drunk. Get off of me," I stated once Shane pulled back for air.

"But, why?" He stretched out the word. "One more?" He begged. Before I could shake my head, he crashed his lips onto mine, his hands moving into the back pockets of my jeans. I pulled my head back, gasping for air. Shane nodded. I guess he was satisfied with himself. Shane walked away from me, leaving me in the middle of the party, alone.

I sighed and looked around for Kyle again. I think that he was the only sober one at the party besides me. I took one more glance around the room and then just decided to quit. I was ready to retreat to my warm, fluffy bed. I know that's not going to happen any time soon.

"Why are you here? Who the hell invited you?" I heard Gage's voice yell from, what I believe, is the kitchen.

"What the hell? Get out! Nobody wants you here!" I then heard Shane's voice. I quickly walked towards the place where I heard the voices. I saw a forming circle of kids yelling, "Fight! Fight! Fight!" I proceeded through that circle and pushed my way to the front. I almost wished that I was invisible when I saw the sight before me.

It was Ryder against Shane and Carter against Vincent and Gage. No.

"Look who I found." Ryder punched Shane in the stomach, and I don't think that it agreed with the amount of alcohol he had to drink. Shane rushed over to the trashcan and started puking his guts out. I felt bad, but at the moment I was a lot more scared. Ryder was walking steadily towards me. "Kaelyn, I miss you babe. Come here." Ryder said.

I backed up, knocking into the person behind me. Before I knew what was going on I was being pushed behind someone and then the person that pushed me had jumped on Ryder, causing them both to fall backwards. My savior was Kyle.

Kyle was punching Ryder repeatedly. No matter how much I hate him, I don't want him dead. If I don't pull Kyle off soon that's what is going to happen. I kneeled down and started prying Kyle off of Ryder. Kyle and I stood up, leaving Ryder lying helplessly on the ground. I saw that Carter was in the same situation as Ryder. They both had busted up lips but, Carter was hurt a lot worse than Ryder. It was taking a lot in me not to go and help Carter up. I know he's made some mistakes but, it hurts me to see him like this.

I was about to go help Carter when Kyle grabbed my arm and gently pulled me back. He shook his head, indicating a 'no' and then he pointed in Shane's direction. I saw Shane leaning over the trash can, ready to throw up again. I quickly went to his side, putting a hand on his back.

"I think that we should go," I whispered in his ear. All I got was a nod and then he stuck his hand in his pocket.

"Meet me out by my car. I just have to take care of something before we leave," Shane handed me his keys. I looked at him, his eyes were turning back to their original shade slowly. I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before I started walking out of Gage's house. I couldn't look at anyone. I just wanted to get out of there.

I walked out to Shane's car, unlocking it and then getting in the driver's seat. There was no way in hell that I was going to let Shane drive.

I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel while I waited for Shane to come out to the car. While waiting I realized that I never thanked Kyle. I'll have to either call him or talk to him on Monday. If it wasn't for him, who knows what Ryder would've done.

I heard the passenger side door open, causing me to jump. Shane sat down and groaned.

"Whose house am I driving to?" I asked.

"I don't care. Yours I guess," Shane answered. He slouched in his seat and held his stomach. I sighed and started to back out of Gage's driveway. I really hope that Michael is asleep... actually, I hope he's not home period.

Within fifteen short minutes we were at my house. I helped Shane out of the car. Actually, I attempted to help drag him into my house. I had to unlock the front door, and by the looks of it Michael wasn't home.

"Go to the bathroom and brush your teeth please. I'll get you some water okay?"  I ordered. Shane nodded and lazily dragged himself up the stairs. "There's a brand new toothbrush in the cabinet above the sink!"

"Yeah, okay," I heard Shane faintly reply. I took out my phone and looked at the time; 3:50 AM. Wow. I got Shane a cold bottle of water and then retreated up the stairs to my bedroom. I heard the shower running, I guess Shane started it. I walked into my bedroom closet and changed into a loose fitting shirt and sweatpants. I tied my hair up in a ponytail and then started to open up my comforter. I guess Shane was spending the night here because he's taking a shower and is too drunk to even walk, let alone drive!

I searched my closet for a pair of Carter's sweatpants. He always kept a pair here just in case we had a surprise movie night or something. I finally found a maroon pair that should fit Shane. I walked to the bathroom, luckily he was still in the shower. I opened the door and silently placed the sweatpants and water on the counter.

While on the way back to my room, I thought I heard someone coughing. Probably Shane. I knew for a fact that Michael isn't here because his car wasn't parked outside. I shrugged it off and the retreated back to my bed. My warm, fluffy bed. I sank into the sheets and pulled the comforter up over my shoulders. I could be asleep in seconds but I was fighting to stay awake so that I could say goodnight to Shane.

Eventually the shower cut off and I heard some cursing while Shane stumbled out of the shower. After a ten minute wait Shane finally came into my room shirtless, with a mop of wet hair, and also wearing the sweatpants I found for him.

"Thanks for the sweatpants and water Kaelyn. I'm sorry this night was a disaster and I'm sorry that I got drunk- I'm sorry that I still am drunk." He chuckled. I felt the bed sink next to me and warm arms wrapped around my waist. I pretended to be asleep, just to see what he does. The light clicked off and I felt Shane tracing shapes on my arms.

"I'm slowly falling deeply in love with you, you somehow were the one to make me change. Goodnight beautiful," Shane mumbled. He sloppily kissed a spot on my neck before letting his head fall back onto the pillows. I heard faint snoring coming from his mouth only seconds after he said that. He couldn't have meant that, right? He's drunk, he probably doesn't know what he's saying.

I fell asleep with a wide smile on my face. Shane's arms were still wrapped around me and his face was nuzzled in the crook of my neck. This night has slowly been turning around, in a good way.
