Chapter 16: Chapter 16

"Hey babe," Shane's voice sent chills down my spine. I pressed the phone harder to my ear and took a breath.

"Hi," I smiled; even though I knew he can't see me.

"So, how was your day? Mine was complete and utter shit," he chuckled. I rolled my eyes and looked down at my laptop. I was just scrolling through Tumblr, a normal routine for me.

"Why was it 'complete and utter shit'? And mine was okay, not extremely good." I sighed. I flipped over on my bed so that I was now laying on my back.

"Because I didn't get to see you at all after lunch, I missed you." He pouted. I bit my lip, while blushing. He's such a flirt.

"I-I missed you too," I stuttered. Wow, way to ruin the moment Kaelyn! "So uh... um... I don't know what to talk about," I completely failed my attempt at changing the subject. I could feel my cheeks burning, this time from embarrassment.

"Actually, I called you to ask if I could come over... if it's okay with Micheal." Shane chuckled. I winced at the memory of my brother embarrassing me a few days ago. "I have something to ask you," He added.

Should I let Shane come over? What could it lead to? Oh god, no, don't think like that Kaelyn! This is exactly what I was afraid of. He's probably just been playing me the whole time! Now he thinks that he can just 'get in my pants'. How could I be so stupid?

"Um... is it a bad time? I don't have to come over," His voice ceased my thoughts. I guess that if I let him come over I'll just have to be careful and not let things go too far, if anything even happens.

"No, no, it's fine. Michael's not home yet and he won't be for a while." I started playing with my hair, twisting it around my fingers. I glanced at my alarm clock; it read 6:15.

"I'll be there in fifteen. See you soon babe," He mumbled the last part before hanging up. I smiled to myself and then ran to my bathroom. I quickly brushed my teeth and put my hair up in a ponytail. I then touched up my makeup a bit and changed into my sweatpants and tee-shirt that were on the counter. Now he wouldn't want to do anything with a girl not dressed in skin tight clothing, right?

About ten minutes later I heard the doorbell ring. I took a deep breath and started running down the stairs, in socks. That wasn't the best idea.

Before I could get to the last step my foot slipped on the non-carpeted stairs. I ended up falling face first onto the floor. I'm pretty sure that Shane saw all of it through the glass door.

While groaning, I picked myself up off the floor and made my way towards the door. I guess I landed on my wrist in a funny way because it was turning slightly purple. When I opened the door I was immediately engulfed in a tight hug.

"You look beautiful, Kaelyn," Shane mumbled in my ear. I felt my cheeks get warm and then his arms were being detached from my body. How can I look beautiful when I look like I just woke up from a nap underneath a rock? "I saw you fall," Shane took my hand in his, turning it over to see the forming bruise on my wrist.

"Don't talk about that! As if it wasn't embarrassing enough!" I playfully smacked Shane's arm. He returned the gesture with a grin.

"How about we get some ice on this bruise and then the whole incident will be forgotten," He laughed.

"Carry me," I opened my arms. "Please," I begged. I pouted out my bottom lip and then saw a small smirk appear on Shane's lips for a few seconds before he picked me up. Shane carried me into the kitchen bridal style; and I can't say that it didn't feel good to be in his arms.

Maybe it wasn't a mistake to invite him over.

Shane set me down next to the sink, on top of the grey marble countertop. He opened up the freezer and started rummaging through the boxes of frozen dinners until he came across an ice pack.

"This will do," He mumbled as he wrapped a paper towel around the frozen block.

"Thanks," I muttered as I pressed the cold block against my wrist. Shane walked towards me and then he stood in between my legs.

"Anytime, babe." He mumbled. I glanced at his eyes, they were staring at my lips. Even though I didn't want his visit to end this way, I couldn't not cave. I had to kiss those perfect lips of his. It wasn't even a want anymore; it was a need.

My hands were tugging at Shane's hair as we kissed. I love his kisses. They were rough, but not too rough. Ryder didn't kiss like this. Ryder's kissing skills are terrible compared to Shane's. I let out a soft moan, causing Shane to smirk. Our session was cut short when I heard a car door slam.

Michael.

"Shit," I mumbled. I jumped up off of the counter and grabbed Shane's hand. "Michael's home. um... shit. What do I do with you?" I questioned. Shane was trying to hold back his laughter as he dragged me up the stairs.

"This has happened to me plenty of times. Now where's your room?" He asked me.

"That's nice to know." I sighed. Great. I just love how he's been in this situation before; note my sarcasm. "My room's down there," I pointed to the end of the hallway. He paused outside my bedroom door.

"Okay. I'm going to hide in your room. Now, whatever happens, don't let Michael upstairs," Shane said; with an added wink. I rolled my eyes. I really hope I didn't leave any clothes lying around on the floor.

"Kaelyn! Are you here?" I heard a pair of keys being thrown on the kitchen counter.

"Yeah I'm up-" Shane clapped his hand over my mouth and gave me a 'are you joking?' look. How stupid am I? Wow, clueless Kaelyn over here. "I'll be downstairs in a minute," I yelled.

"Okay! I have a surprise for you when you come downstairs!" Michael replied. I let out the breath of air that I was holding, as I opened my bedroom door.

"Now hide," I whispered. I put my hands on Shane's chest and was about to push him back when he grabbed my wrists.

"I'll be waiting here," He pecked my lips, letting them linger for a few seconds, before he walked back into my room;shutting the door behind him. I raced down the stairs, this time I was careful not to fall. When I reached the foot of the stairs, Michael was standing there.

"Hi..." I wearily greeted. "Aren't you supposed to be at work?" I questioned.

"Yes, but I asked for early off today because I know that you wanted to see that movie, 'The Mortal Instruments' tonight and I thought that I could go with you. You know, as a brother sister night. Truth is... you remind me so much of mom... I just... I just miss them so much and I want to spend more time with my only sister." Michael explained. I let out a sigh and walked towards Michael, engulfing him in a huge hug.

"I miss them too. I'm really sorry but, I can't go tonight. I have way too many things to do." I wiped the stray tears off of my face. I always get emotional when I talked about my deceased parents.

"Oh... I'm sorry," Michael walked into the kitchen. "I'm just going to go to um... I'm just going to go to Grandma's house. I won't be back for a while." He grabbed his keys off of the counter.

"Michael I'm sorry," I sobbed.

"It's fine Kaelyn, don't worry. Just tell your boyfriend to not park his car in the driveway next time," Michael said before he left the house. I ran towards the windows and saw what he was talking about. Shane's car was parked almost directly in the middle of the driveway.

While walking back up the stairs I couldn't help but to cry. I always cried for hours whenever someone brought up my parents, I couldn't help it. Not having them with me has made such an impact on my life... just growing up with a brother and a grandma can change you. What made it worse was the fact that I hurt Michael. Sure, we have our regular fights like all siblings do, but this time he had actually made time to spend with me. I'm a terrible person, choosing Shane- a boy who isn't even my boyfriend- over my brother.
