Chapter 137: Chapter 137
Conrad Sterling dialed Anna Thornton’s phone number, but he encountered the same treatment as Finn Grant.
The phone rang until it automatically disconnected—no one answered.
Anna Thornton is a night owl; she shouldn’t be asleep yet, but who knows what she’s up to!
Meanwhile, the battle between the Grant siblings finally ended, concluding with a victory for Miss Grant, who was arrogant, willful, yet deeply passionate and resolute.
Sarah Grant mercilessly left her own brother there and took Henry Willow away.
Finn Grant was so furious he swallowed two mood-stabilizing pills on the spot!
That battle over there ended, but the battle here continued.
Finn Grant called Anna Thornton, only to find out she was busy on another call.
He immediately furrowed his brow and glanced at Conrad Sterling.
Conrad Sterling was holding his phone with his back to him; Finn Grant couldn’t see the phone screen, but he didn’t need to see it to know.
Wasn’t Conrad Sterling keeping cool earlier? Now he’s competing for the same woman?
Hmph, all right then! Let’s see who’s more charming!
Actually, when they both called the same number, trying to knock the other off the line, it was more about whose luck was better—who could catch Anna Thornton at the moment she picked up.
Anna Thornton came out of the bathroom after a shower, lay down on the bed, applying a face mask while rubbing body lotion on herself.
Suddenly, she heard her phone ring. She quickly cleaned the lotion off one hand, picked up the phone without checking the caller ID, and answered. Fresh chapters posted on novel·fiɾe·net
"Anna Thornton, I’m drunk. Come pick me up!"
Hearing this, Anna Thornton squinted her eyes in confusion.
She lowered the phone, glanced at the caller ID, then put the phone back to her ear: "Young Master Grant, you called the wrong person, right? I’m not a designated driver."
However, the other side didn’t listen, just gave her an address and hung up.
So late at night, Anna Thornton decided not to pay attention to Finn Grant.
But before she could put down her phone, it rang again.
This time Anna Thornton saw it was Conrad Sterling calling, so she answered.
"Hello, President Sterling, why haven’t you gone home yet? Isn’t it because Marilyn’s not there, and you’re taking the opportunity to do something shady outside?" Anna couldn’t help teasing him.
News in the entertainment circle spreads quickly, so both Anna Thornton and Ethan Hawthorne knew Marilyn Ford went south for a film festival.
"I’m drunk. Come pick me up!"
Conrad Sterling said the same thing as Finn Grant and then gave her an address.
This person didn’t give her a chance to ask questions before hanging up, leaving Anna Thornton bewildered.
Both men gave her the same address. So, is this some prank project? But today isn’t April Fool’s Day!
Anna Thornton frowned in confusion and tossed her phone onto the couch.
Unable to figure out their antics, she continued applying her body lotion.
Meanwhile, at the club, seeing Conrad Sterling put down the phone, Finn Grant snorted coldly: "I called first, and you even copied my lines."
Conrad Sterling glanced at him disdainfully: "What originality or uniqueness does your line have?"
You are only allowed to say one sentence, conveying the situation to get someone to come; what else could you say?
Some men, to coax a woman into coming quickly, might even pretend that they’re sick, curse themselves with an accident, or claim they’ve been diagnosed with a terminal illness and are dying... is it necessary?
Actually, after Henry Willow undoubtedly took first place, the rankings in the middle didn’t really matter.
Now, what everyone wanted to know was who would come in last place!
Seeing everyone else had their girlfriends pick them up, only Conrad Sterling, Finn Grant, and Ethan Hawthorne remained.
Ethan Hawthorne’s date had arrived early, but as the game’s notary, he had to stay and watch which bigwig’s woman—President Sterling’s or Young Master Grant’s—would arrive first.
However, they were all waiting for the same person.
"President Sterling, Young Master Grant, I think the competition for last might be very fierce between you guys. For guaranteed odds, I suggest contacting a few more people. Like how I called several women, whoever arrives first wins." Ethan Hawthorne proposed.
Finn Grant: "No need!"
Conrad Sterling: "No need!"
Finn Grant glared at Conrad Sterling in discontent: "Copying my line again? Plagiarizing dog!"
Conrad Sterling scoffed: "Crazy!"
The two of them, with enough influence to shake the entire financial circle of Aethelgard, had drunk so much they seemed like two squabbling preschoolers left in detention, eagerly watching the door to see whose ’parent’ would pick them up first while constantly bickering.
As for their ’parent,’ Anna Thornton finally arrived an hour later.
She opened the private room door and first peeked inside.
Hesitated outside the door for a moment because of the strange scene inside: Conrad Sterling and Finn Grant sitting opposite each other, with Ethan Hawthorne caught in between.
Until Finn Grant spoke first, beckoning her in: "I’ve nearly fallen asleep waiting. Hurry up and pick me up!"
Upon hearing this, Anna Thornton stepped in: "Young Master Grant, I’m not your designated driver!"
Then she gazed at Conrad Sterling, who immediately started complaining: "You arrived early! Did you sleep after getting my call?"
"I’m not your designated driver!" Anna Thornton emphasized to Conrad Sterling as well.
"President Sterling, Young Master Grant, turns out the woman you both contacted is the same one," Ethan Hawthorne said with a look of anticipation, "Now let’s see who she chooses."
Anna Thornton looked at Conrad Sterling and Finn Grant, then at Ethan Hawthorne and his date, understanding the situation without much explanation.
"I was wondering why you both called me; turns out you’re playing a game? Is it my turn to choose my favorite male guest now?"
Anna Thornton originally thought the atmosphere was tense, so she cracked a joke to lighten the mood, but both ’male guests’ instantly turned sour.
"Choose what? I called first. If you dare go over there, believe me, you’ll understand the meaning of regret!" Finn Grant resorted to verbal threats, insisting Anna Thornton take him away.
"I believe it! Young Master Grant’s temper is as strong as the Grant family’s influence in Aethelgard. I don’t want to be kidnapped on the way again." Anna Thornton recalled her initial meeting with Finn Grant, still feeling uneasy, tapped her chest.
She stepped closer to Finn Grant, casting a helpless look back at Conrad Sterling: "Sorry, President Sterling! If you call Marilyn now, maybe after the film festival tomorrow afternoon, she’ll be able to catch the next flight back."
"Pfft..." Watching Anna Thornton walk towards him, Finn Grant laughed victoriously—this was indeed the woman he had chosen.
