Chapter 34: Chapter 34

Ashley

My waist was killing me as I found it difficult to sleep on the locally made bed I normally sleep on.

Oliver was fast asleep as it was late in the night, I was careful not to wake her up.

I'm eight months into my pregnancy and the midwife I have been visiting says the baby might likely come earlier than expected.

She said that I will be having more Brixton hicks as the days passed by.

I am guessing that's why I am having these intense waist cramps these days. The weather is just perfect as it is not so hot or too cold.

My bump is not all that huge, but it feels like I am carrying dozens of babies all at once.

I got up from the bed gently, using my hand to gently soothe the pain before quietly walking outside for some fresh air.

But as soon as I came out I heard the howling sound of wolves. It appeared like they were fighting close by.

This felt strange as there are hardly any wolves around here. I moved carefully towards where the sound was coming from and soon saw that they were indeed wolves.

They were about six rogues hovering over an alpha male. From all indications, the alpha wolf has been badly beaten and injured by the rogues.

I wondered what the rift between them is, as I stood by to watch them lash at him for some seconds.

From the look of things, I knew I had to do something else the alpha wolf would be killed.

So I start spinning my index finger around to create a whirlwind, not so big of a whirlwind, but enough to trap all the rogues around him.

I could hear their screaming as soon they got trapped inside the whirlwind, with a wave of my hand I sent the whirlwind far away from my territory.

Yes, this is now my territory.

I looked at the alpha wolf who appeared to be very weak by now and our eyes meant just a moment before he passed out.

He had various degrees of injuries on his body while he lay unconsciously on the ground.

I clapped my hands and the wind lifted his body from the floor and he started floating from behind me.

I soon got back to my home and had him gently placed down on the floor.

I took a knife and cut my palm, after which I squeezed it so blood can gush out and I directed the drops to his mouth.

He slowly moves his mouth as the warm metallic liquid dropped into his mouth.

His wounds start healing up, and I watch him heave a sigh of relief.

“Sweet dreams,” I said to him as I stretched my hand towards him and the grass around him starts growing up fast to shield him from every harm.

I was startled to see a man looking down on me and Oliver at where we were sleeping the following morning when I woke up. I could remember him from the previous night. He was the alpha I save from those rogues.

Looking at him now, I could tell he was tall and well built, and since he was backing the light coming in from the door, I could not exactly tell the features of his face.

I sat down to check that Oliver was still sleeping. And before I could talk to him he walked out of the room.

I followed him outside to see him running his hand through his head like he was confused or something.

I couldn't exactly tell his age, but he was moderate in his looks.

“Who are you?” I asked after watching him for some time.

“No, the question is who are you?” he said, looking at me weirdly.

“My name is Ashley, and I saw you wounded last night being attacked by wolves and I brought you here to take care of you,”

“And how did you do that?” He questioned.

“What do you mean?” I replied feigning ignorance to his question.

“Did you use magic?” he asked

“Will that be a crime if I said I did?” I retorted.

“No. So sorry for my manners. I am just over amazed to see myself looking spotless after all that I went through last night in the hands of those rogues,” he said with a baffled smile.

“I'm happy to help,” I said to him

“Sorry, just to cure my curiosity, did you kill those rogues,” he asked

“What would it matter to you?”

“Do you realize you have been answering my questions with more questions?”

“Oh sorry, I didn't know I was been interviewed,” I said rolling my eyes. Already getting bored with his inquisitiveness.

That made him laugh some more, and If I am, to be honest, he sure looks better when he smiles.

Nevertheless, there was this feeling I had about him, it was quite unsettling.

“Look, I didn't mean to be rude, but do you know how amazing you are, do you know what you can do with your powers,” he asks as his eyes sparkle with happiness.

“Thanks, but I still don't know who you are,” I said trying to shut out his flattering compliments.

“Yeah, sorry for my manner, my name is Jason, and I am the alpha of the green moon pack,” he said stretching his hand for a handshake and I shook him lightly

“So you are an alpha,” I asked, telling myself no wonder he looks arrogant.

Most alphas are known to be arrogant anyway, except my Alexander

“Yeah, I guess so, but don't get your hopes up just yet, we are a small pack of about two hundred wolves”

“And you are their leader?”

“I believe so,” he said

“Nice,"

“What about your husband, I don't see him around,” he said looking at me as if trying to see if I would lie.

“Yeah, that's because he eerr*clears throat* traveled,” I lied.

“So he left you here all by yourself to travel to where exactly,”

“None of your business, that's the name of the place,” I said sharply, hating the fact that he was about disrespecting my beautiful memory of Alexander.

“Well I didn't mean to pry too much into your personal life, but I just couldn't help notice how vulnerable you are here with your little sister I assume,”

“What were you doing here,” I asked ignoring his statement.

“I was sent on a mission”

“What mission?”

“If I tell you I will have to kill you,” he said jokily as he starts laughing.

But the thing is, I did not quite find his joke funny, and I felt very uneasy around him.

“I am glad you are fine now, so you can be on your way,” I said, attempting to return to the hut.

“Hmm, it seems you don't like me, I am sorry I may have come on a little too tough for a first impression, but is there any way I can repay you for saving my life?” He questions, his words stopping me in my tracks as I turned to look at him.

“No thanks, Don't worry I have everything I need,” I said to him.

“I can see that, but I can offer you more, a place to call a proper home,”

“And where would that be”

“My pack, you can come live with me and I will try to repay you for your kindness every day of my life,”

“I don't want your payment, I did whatever I did out of charity and I want nothing in return”

“You may not want anything in return but what about your unborn child, your little sister sleeping in this dungeon you call a home, is this the kind of life that you want for your unborn baby?” he questions and I thought for some moment about his offer.

I may not know him, but honestly being in a pack would help keep me Oliver, and my baby safe, I am sure alexander would love to see his child grow up in a pack.

And if he is offering me this for free, then why shouldn't I take it, And life is about taking chances.

“Good morning Ashley, who is this?” Oliver said with sleepy eyes as she walked out of the room.

“Oliver dear, why don't you go back to the room, I will join you shortly,” I said to the little girl who obeyed me without questioning.

And as soon as she was out of sight I directed my attention to Jason.

“Why should I trust you?” I asked him looking at him squarely in the eyes.

“Because you saved my life and if I wanted to kill you, I would have done so while you were sleeping,”

“Fair enough, how far is your pack,”

“it's a two-day walk from here, but we will be there in no time if you decide to go in my car,”

“Where is your car,”

“around somewhere,”

“Okay, we come with you, but know this if anything happens to me or my little sister, I would come for you,” I said in I threatening voice.

“Oh, but how would you hurt me if you are dead,” he questions jokingly while laughing.

Fuck, I hate his jokes.
