Chapter 56: Chapter 56

Jake chuckled as he moved his gaze to the doors of the school. "It's not sweet talking when it's true, baby doll."

As I was about to reply, I saw someone that I didn't expect to see walking out of the school doors. Kane. He stopped and looked around the parking lot as he sniffed. As if he had sniffed out our scent, his gaze moved to us among the throng of students walking home and going to their cars.

In the next instance, he was strolling towards us with a casual smile on his face. I grimaced at the thought of him coming over and talking to us. I heard Jake groan as he said, "That Jerk is coming over here. Who does he think he is enrolling into our school and trying to talk to us?"

"Probably, to get me back. I ran away from him, but he has come back to haunt me." I said as I felt anger boil inside me towards Kane.

"He won't be able to do anything to you, baby doll. I'll make sure of that." Jake said as he turned his head and looked into my eyes. I could see how sincere he was being and I felt my lips stretch into a smile as I looked back into his eyes.

"Look what the cat dragged in." Kane's unnerving voice took our attention from each other and to him.

The others also had their attention on him as he stared at me. His gaze suddenly narrowed in on the side of my neck where Jake had marked me and left two, tiny holes from his fangs. His teeth clenched, but he maintained his smile. He looked back at my face as he said, "Didn't I tell you that I am your mate?"

Jake looked pissed as his brows furrowed and his teeth clenched in anger. "And didn't I tell you yo stay away with all the BS that you keep saying?"

Kane moved his gaze to Jake as he said, "You shouldn't have marked her, Simpsons. You or any of your friends have no right."

He looked over at Sean and Shane as he said that. Leo watched with a frown while Jane looked annoyed. Sean scoffed at him as Shane said, "What is wrong with you?"

I felt anger boil more inside me as I resisted the urge to smack him. A growl left Jake's lips as he raised his clenched fist and threw it at Kane's face. It landed on his lips and nose. His face whipped to the side at the impact of Jake's punch. He turned his head back slowly to us and I could see his bottom lip have split open.

Jake growled again as he warned him, "Don't you dare try to tell me not to be with my mate. Don't even look at her again, Kane or I swear that what you'll get next time will be far worse than one punch."

Kane looked angry as he clenched his fists by his sides. I thought that he would punch him back, but it seemed that he was afraid to do so. Probably because he had guessed that Jake had Alpha blood and was stronger than him.

Throwing a punch back would continue the fight that Kane knew that he couldn't win. Not in human form anyway since Jake hasn't mastered fighting in wolf form. He might have a chance then. I glared at Kane as I said, "Stay away, Kane unless you want me to get my revenge on you."

Kane scoffed and let out an unbelievable laugh, "Revenge? I would like to see you try, scaredy Max."

Before any of us could reply, he turned away swiftly and jogged away. Sean shook his head as he said, "Man, I hate that guy."

"Not as much as me." I muttered as I moved my gaze from Kane to the the school doors.

"Or me." Jake said, his voice still sounding angry. I looked at him and saw that his jaw was still clenched as well as his fists.

I lifted my hand and brushed my fingers against his jaw, bringing his gaze to my face. His lips lifted up in a small smile as I captured his gaze. I moved my hand to cup his face, "Don't waste your anger on him. Besides, he's gone for now, and I wanna see your gorgeous smile."

His lips spread wider into a grin as his hazel eyes continued looking into my brown ones. "Now, who's sweet talking?"

I laughed, "It's not sweet talking if it's true."

"You're right." He replied as he placed his hand on top mine on his face then dragged it to his lips. He placed a kiss on my fingers then moved them back and intertwined our fingers as our hands hung by our sides.

We looked back to the school's double doors just as Mike, Alex and Drake walked out of the doors. They spotted us leaning against Jake's car immediately and increased their pace. They soon reached us, all looking excited to see us except Drake who frowned as he saw Shane standing too close to Jane.

"Hey, guys!" Alex and Mike exclaimed as they grinned at us while Drake muttered, "Hi."

"Hey!" Sean, Jane and I said at the same time, all smiling while Shane said, "Hey, guys."

Jake grinned at them as he said, "Hey! You missed out on our awesome car party!"

We all laughed, and Mike shook his head, "That's bummer, dude, but what about the real reason that you went on that road trip? I can see the bright looks on your faces which means that you got what you wanted!"

Jake and I chuckled at his excitement and I said, "Yes, we did. Jake and I are mates!"

"I knew it!" Alex shouted in a knowing way.

"Congrats, Jake and Max!" Mike said, and Drake added with a small smile, "Congrats, you two."

Drake turned to Jane who was quiet and looking down as he asked, "What about you, Jane? Who did you see is your mate?"

Shane looked at her to see her reaction as we all did, and she gave him a small smile. "I saw Shane, and he saw me. He's my mate."
