Chapter 29: Chapter 29

I didn’t know when I wrapped my arms around his neck or when I started kissing him back until he pulled back and released my waist. We were both breathing heavily and our chests were rising and falling fast as we stared at each other.

He looked torn and afraid as he said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. I’m not myself right now.”

“Jake-” I started, but he had already turned around and left.

I felt confused. What did he mean? I sighed and decided to go out to the backyard to clear my head. I walked out of the kitchen and made my way to the glass door beside it that was showing the view from outside. As I reached it, I opened it and walked out, leaving it open since I wouldn’t be staying long.

The backyard was large with a short fence surrounding it. The ground was covered in cleanly cut grasses and there was a barbeque stove at the far end with some chairs. I sat down on the grass and laid down to clear my head and think of what just happened.

Jake kissed me and I liked it, but he said that he didn’t mean it and apologized. Does that mean he didn’t like it or didn’t want to go there just yet? I sighed and closed my eyes when I heard footsteps approach me. Before I opened my eyes, I heard Stephanie’s voice.

“Check if she’s still breathing.”

I left my eyes closed when I heard that so that I would understand what they were trying to do first. I felt someone’s hand hover over my nostrils, pushing the air that was coming out back in. They removed their hand, and I heard, “Yes, she’s still breathing.”

“What?! How?! Why didn’t you drug her?!” I heard Stephanie’s voice exclaim, her anger could be heard.

What? They drugged me, to death? What was wrong with them? Only because of her jealousy towards me? I was about to open my eyes when I heard Abbey’s reply.

“I did, I drugged her and Jake twice!” That left me feeling shocked and more disgusted at them.

“Then why isn’t she dead? You’re lying!”

“I swear I did!” Abbey protested, sounding irritated and confused.

“Now how are we going to get rid of her like the other girls that we didn’t need?” Stephanie asked, sounding frustrated and angry. Excuse me? I was the one being drugged, I should be angry.

“The drug usually works and kills them instantly, but now-” I knew that I had heard enough and opened my eyes. Stephanie immediately shushed Abbey as I stood up.

I looked at them both as they looked horrified, but still angry. “You two are sick to drug us to death, and I thought that you liked Jake, Stephanie.”

“You’re the one that’s sick to try stealing Jake away from me. Besides, Jake’s drug is different, we only need to get rid of you.” Stephanie said, glaring at me.

“Jake was never yours and I won’t let you hurt him.” I turned around and walked back into the house through the glass door.

I needed to find Jake before he got hurt, but then was it because of the drug that he kissed me? Did he even want to kiss me or was it all the drug? He did drink two cups of drinks from Abbey while I took only one cup.

Stephanie and Abbey said that I was supposed to be dead. Maybe it was because we are werewolves now that the drug didn’t work. It probably worked on Jake a bit because he took too much.

If his drug was to make him sleep with someone then he would have been doing the deed instead of kissing me and stopping. That meant it also didn’t affect him that much.

I walked into the kitchen and found it empty then walked out and made my way to another hallway. I saw four doors, two on each side, and opened the first one on the left. What I saw shocked me and hurt me more than I imagined.

Stephanie had her arms around Jake as she kissed him while he looked shocked and immediately pulled away. His gaze landed on me as he looked lost for words while Stephanie smirked, looking smug. How could he?

When he was just kissing me less than twenty minutes ago and after he had asked me out yesterday. I felt angry and ran out of the room. I could hear Jake yelling my name, but I quickly walked out of the front door and looked around.

There was no one except Sean who was sitting on the grass. He turned around when he heard me walk out. “Hey, Max.”

Deciding that I wasn’t fit for riding back home by myself, I walked to him and sat down. “Hey.”

He glanced at me and noticed my expression. “You look angry, what happened? Is it Stephanie?”

I took in a deep breath and released it to calm my wolf before I turned. “Yeah. I saw her kissing Jake after he kissed me some minutes ago.”

“She probably did that to have him like her and get you to leave him alone. I like you, Max, more than a friend even though I know that you’re supposed to be Jake’s girl.”

I felt surprised yet again that night and said, “I’m supposed to be his girl, but he’s kissing Stephanie. And I’m sorry, Sean, you know how I feel.”

Sean chuckled, “Oh, I know. You have the hots for Jake real bad just like he has the hots for you. But you need to get him back and make him jealous like the way you felt, and I can help you with that.”

I was so angry that Jake would do that even if it was Stephanie that initiated it. I was planning on saying yes to him so that we can start dating, but I guess not now.
