Chapter 26: Chapter 26
"We can go to my spot." He said, glancing at me.
"Yeah, it will do since it's a beautiful place on a cliff with grasses and all."
"Awe, has our bad boy gone soft?" Shane joked as he laughed.
"You wish." Jake grinned, "Everyone likes a good view."
"True that." Shane replied, and I chuckled.
The next day, we were sitting at our lunch table like we sat down the day before with me beside Jake. We were talking about the Drillers gang and how they were now without us when Cassie walked up to our table. She came and sat down on the other side of Jake.
"Hey, Jake. Are you going to Stephanie's party?"
He looked at her with a blank look as we all turned to her. "Yes."
"Are you bringing her?" She emphasized on 'her' as she glared at me.
Seeing her glare at me, he ignored her and turned back to the rest of us. When Cassie saw that, she looked angry and glared harder at me. "Don't even think of going, you simp!"
I looked at her incredulously. The nerve of her. How dare she call me a simp when she was the simp? She was always following him around while I wasn't, and he had already asked me out. "What is your problem, Cassie?"
"You are my problem, Max! Maybe you should just go back to wherever you came from, and that will solve all of our problems!" Cassie yelled as she continued glaring at me.
I felt so angry at the way she was talking to me, and as I was about to reply, Jake beat me to it. "Leave this table, Cassie and never talk to us again since you are going to be acting this way with Max."
I turned to him to see that he was giving her a hard look with his jaw clenched. Cassie became panicked as she looked worried and started apologizing. "I'm sorry, Jake. I don't mean it that way."
We all knew that she meant it that way, and she has been mean to me since I friat met her. But I didn't let her match all over me, I gave back whatever she has given me. Jake looked at me as he asked, "Want to go out to the field?"
"Yeah, let's go." I turned to Cassie and smirked to which she looked like she was about to explode out of anger.
The guys and Jane saw what Jake did there and Mike and Sean shouted, "Oohh."
We all laughed except Cassie, and as Jake and I stood up, Jane said, "See you when you get back."
"Sure." I replied while Jake nodded at her as we walked away while Cassie kept glaring at me.
We walked side by side as we made our way out of the cafeteria. It was a short walk from the cafeteria doors to the door adjacent it that led out to the field where the sports take place. We were soon out on the field and heading towards the football field with the bleachers on the side.
Jake glanced at me as we started heading towards the bleachers. "Don't mind what Cassie says. She's a pain."
I glanced at him before returning my gave to our front. "Yeah, I know, but she keeps going too far."
"Yes, but she can't do anything to you since I'm with you and you're one of us." He said as we reached the bleachers and stopped.
I felt my lips curve up into a smile at his words, "Thanks for having my back."
His own lips lifted up into a smirk, "Anytime, baby doll."
He sat down on the long bleacher bench and patted the space beside him, still smirking. I chuckled at his behavior and sat down next to him. "So how are things going with your parents?"
He sighed as he looked forward towards the football field. I looked towards it too and saw how the opposite goal posts were far apart, well-cut grass covering the ground and no one on it. "Things aren't going so good. I was hoping that they would make up, but they only keep pulling apart."
I felt sad for him because it would be so hurtful to see your parents fighting and not loving each other anymore. Not only that, but I didn't want him to experience that or any kind of pain. I glanced at him, "I am so sorry about that, Jake. Are they still going through with the divorce?"
"Yes."
"Who are you living with after?" I asked with furrowed brows, feeling worried that he might move away.
He looked away from the football field and turned back to me, "They agreed that my mom will be moving out and going back to her home town. So I will be staying here with my dad."
I let out a relieved sigh, "I am glad that you are staying close because I can't imagine being without you."
His lips widened into a smile as he stared at me, "I can't imagine being without you either. That's why I have to stay close my baby doll."
I smiled at his playful manner, "I hope that it's for the best."
"Yeah, me too. I will miss mom a lot though." He said as he turned to face the football field again.
"Maybe you can visit her during holidays or weekends." I said as I looked at his side profile.
"Yeah, probably." He briefly glanced at me before facing the field again. "What about your dad? When is he coming to visit you?"
It was my turn to sigh, "I don't know. We talk on the phone, but he said that he won't be able to come home soon because of work."
"Things will get better, Max. Just have to believe it."
"I know."
It was Friday and time for Stephanie' party. Jake parked his sports car out of the parking lot just as the others parked theirs beside his.
