Chapter 93: Chapter 93

Chapter 94

[Getting Engaged]

“Let me just hold you like this for a while.” He sobbed out quietly. They held each other close.

Ellie kept thinking about what might have happened to him. To a cheerful boy like him. She held him tightly and sniffed in his cologne.

**

Elsa's car drove straight into the house. She wasted no time in coming down. She carried her bag and walked briskly into house.

“Ellie.” Mercy called put happily thinking she was the one. Elsa stopped and looked back but did not see Ellie. She raised her eyebrows and realized that she was referring to her. She smiled and towards her. She crouched down and said. “Little sister, seems like you are finding it hard to recognize your sisters.” She teased. Then it dawned on Mercy that it was not Ellie. She smiled nervously and moved back a bit. “I am sorry.” She apologized.

“It's nothing. Now where's dad and mom?” Elsa asked as she looked around.

“They are yet to be back.” Mercy answered.

“Cassie.” Elsa called out. Cassie came out of the kitchen.

“What are you preparing for dinner?” She asked.

“Pasta and some sauce with beef.” She answered.

“Will be downstairs soon to help you.” She said and walked upstairs.

*

Jayson got out his car. He was happy and at the same time confused. Happy that he finally got his feelings for her known, and confused that she did not react in her usual goofy way.

He picked his phone and contemplated whether to call Elsa. He breathed out and clicked on her number.

It rang for few seconds.

Just as Elsa came out of the bathroom, her phone rang. She furrowed her eyebrows and went to pick it from the bed. Ellie must have put it there.

She saw Jayson's caller ID. She clicked on the answer button and brought the phone close to her ear.

“Hello.” She spoke up.

“Uhm, Hi.” He said, scratching the back of his neck nervously. She could sense his nervousness and she wondered why.

“Have you gotten home?” He asked.

“Yes.” She answered.

“Wow, so quick.” He mused.

“Any problem?” She asked, adding to his confusion.

“Just wanted to know. And also tell you that you can take your time to think about what I told you. I am patient enough.” He said and she frowned.

“What you told me? When?” She asked.

“This night… you left in a hurry. Or don't you remember?” He asked. She was definitely not getting what he was saying.

“I left in a hurry?” She asked again.

“Yes, or…” He trailed off.

“Oh, yeah. Really sorry about that.” She said. She knew Ellie must have been the one to go there. Who else resembles her in the whole world?

“I will give you a call later.” She said and disconnected the call. How dare Ellie go to a date that she was invited to?

She stomped out of the room in pure anger and got to the living room.

“Where's Ellie?” She roared with fury.

**

Jayson stared at his phone for a while before coming down from the car. He walked towards the door. But then he saw Julia coming out.

“Oh, you are back finally. Was about giving you another call.” She said as soon as she saw him. He nodded his head as he was still in a confused state.

“Good day, dad.” He greeted.

“Oh, you are finally back.” His mother cooed in a caring and worried voice. He forced a tight smile at her as she came towards him and planted a peck on his cheek.

“Have your seat, Jayson. We are about to discuss a very important topic.” Cole said with a stoic face. Jayson looked at his mother then at Julia who just shrugged. She also did not know what he was going say. He accepted his fate and sat down.

“Jayson.” His dad called out.

“Yes.” He answered with a look of skepticism.

“You are getting engaged.” His dad announced, making Julia and Helen gasp.

“What?!” He yelled out and stood up instantly.

“Hey, young man. Watch your tone.” Cole warned as he also stood up.

“To whom?” He asked with a snicker.

“Shawna Greene.” His dad said again. And this was enough for him to burst out.

“What?! Shawna? The same girl I know?.” He scoffed out in anger.

“This is impossible. I mean, you have been planning all this on my behalf?” He asked in a loud voice. His mother was so scared that she thought the two males were going fight.

“You have no choice. We are slowly or rather quickly running out of funds in the company. And I can proudly say, that we have done bankrupt. So the best way to help us out is you getting engaged to the girl.” His dad yelled back at him with his fingers pointed at him.

“Dad! You have always made decisions concerning my life but now, I can't take it anymore. Go get engaged to whosoever you want. I am out of here.” Jayson shouted and walked out on him in rage.

“Did your son just walk out on me?” He asked his wife with a shocked face.

“Cole, you have to calm down. If you want to get him to engage her, you have to talk with calmness.” She said in a scared voice.

He chuckled without humor and uttered a scoff.

“You except me to be calm when my business is there going down the drain? You are being ridiculous.” He shouted at her.

*

“Brother.” Julia called out. He looked at her out of the corner of his eye, with his breath ragging. His dad had just crossed the line in trying to get him married.

“I understand how painful it is but think of it. Dad's company has gone bankrupt. Please…”

“Stop it.” He cut her off.

“You expect me to get married to Shawna of all people and also because of money from her parents. That is impossible. I cannot get married to whosoever just because that old man has gone bankrupt.” He said with finality.

“Brother, don’t tell you are in love with someone else.” Julia asked and gazed at him with scrutiny.

Jayson hesitated and looked away sharply.

“impossible. Then why can't you get married to Shawna for the sake of your family?”

“That’s because I am in love with Elsa.” He shouted at her out of frustration. He was just tired of being controlled.

He needed air to breath. He needed his space.

Julia stood, staring at him. She had always known but was not sure. She knew her brother already had this affection for Elsa. She smiled with satisfaction. Not like she wanted him to get married to Shawna anyway.
