Chapter 11: Chapter 11

I know waterfalls, lakes, and gardens all represent beauty. But have you ever seen a kind of beauty that captivated, allured, and rendered you speechless and completely awed?

The moment Louis drove into Lekki phase 1, I knew I was been transported to another universe entirely. The entire place is simply urban with tall erected buildings in modern architectural designs in an exact grid pattern. Ubiquitous skyscrapers smudged by the smug-filled sky. Elaborate automobiles with tinted glasses danced around. There are streets of upmarket stores, smooth black and glass exteriors, fancy names in fancier lettering.

The island is a world of wealth, beauty, and riches. The difference between where I was coming from and where I'm being transported to is a blazing fickle of poverty to affluence. Everywhere looked different with a perfumed atmosphere made all the more inviting by trending hip-hop music.

The Porsche came to a roundabout with a fountain at the centre, swept around it and continued up towards a fantastic sprawling penthouse.

Ten bodyguards in suit escorted us to the main door after Alex called them to skip all interrogations and let me in.

"Good morning, I'm Chika." an old woman clad in a smartly tailored suit welcomed me in. She looked like she must be in her sixties, she did age gracefully and was the perfect definition of black doesn't crack.

"Hi, I'm Tife." I swallowed hard, feeling inferior already.

The woman stared at me in confusion. "I'm his personal assistant." I gave a small smile.

"Nice to meet you then, I just hope your stay will be a long one, unlike the others." She smiled back and led me into the huge hallway with red carpet sprawled around.

"I don't understand." I leaned in with a questioning look.

She looked at me amused, "you don't understand? Well, Alex has the reputation of firing all his personal assistants few days as soon as they commence work for one flimsy excuse or the other so I wish you best of luck." She patted my shoulders and walked ahead the long corridor with huge chandeliers.

"This place is beautiful, how big is it?" I increased my walking pace to meet up with her. For a woman her age, she sure is very agile and smart.

"This is a 58 storey building. It used to be the property of the Adebayo's but Alex inherited it as soon as he was of age." She shrugged and walked into an elevator.

"Wow, that's amazingly huge," I said with eyes wide opened as I looked around the impeccably beautiful environment. It screamed glamour and wealth.

"This apartment contains 250 rooms, including 100 en-suite bedrooms, 50 terraces with a sweeping, polished view of the island." She tapped button number fifty-eight.

"OMG! That's too much for a bachelor. A huge house with no family to spend it with can be quite boring." I argued and shook my head in disagreement.

She raised her brows in surprise, straightening out her wrinkles. "Wait till you see the huge private pools, fully equipped gym, the theatre rooms, enormous library, music room and soon before you conclude."

My mouth dropped open with, shock coursing my body as I struggled for what to say with no words coming out.

"This house also has ten private elevators connecting the floors, except for one that separates the guest suite and the staff residence." She winked and went out as soon as the elevator pinged open.

"Go on, he is waiting for you." She nudged he head in the direction of the first room.

"Where is this place?" I whispered, terror creeping into my skin.

"It's his room." She whisper yelled.

"Oh, no." I held my face and began pacing around, beads of sweat sat elegantly on my forehead.

"Relax," she coached. "Take a deep breath and go in. Surprisingly today, he happened to be in a good mood, so just go in and if you need anything, let me know." She said, patted my shoulder and went into the lift, leaving me to myself.

With three exacerbated sighs, three deep breaths, in and out, I finally knocked on the door.

"Come in." His voice was deep, rich, and silky in tone.

I muttered a quick prayer in my mind and stepped into the most hottest bachelor's hood.

You know, I thought drums were the only instruments that had the ability to be beaten so hard and loud. Who knew the semi-nude sight of my boss who was busy doing a press up, could make my heart pound furiously and leave my brain totally messed up.

There is only one way to describe the sun-kissed specie of Homo Sapien. His skin is smooth and flawless which is like a sheet of well-done cloth, light brown skin that glistened with sweat and soft moisture each time he went lower and upper, flexing his muscles.

His nose is perfectly round and pointed, lips red and full like a plump tomato. A prominent jaw is carved gracefully around the length of his neck, shoved in the cords of muscles that shaped in the twinning cord of muscles and his entire body; strong arms that flexed his muscles from time to time, bold thighs and calves that resembled some Marvel super hero plus a firm chest with packs and abdomen.

He is an adonis among the other men that each pale in comparison. A melanin god that should be worshipped by both gender day and night because of his masculinity and beauty. And to be honest, even my boyfriend stands no chance beside this brown, yummy, eye candy.

"Enjoying the view?" He smirked when he concluded his exercise.

"You wish." I scoffed while he chuckled and picked up a handkerchief to wipe his sweat.

I settled comfortably on a black couch that sank in the moment I plopped on it. The room is huge like every other part of the house, flamboyant and fastidiously neat. The theme colour is black and white making the room look like a perfect magazine cover. The window is tinted and huge giving the view of the outside world and the blue sky while the people from outside can't see inside.

"Do you work out?" Alex walked towards me, drinking directly from a water bottle.

"Nope." I shook my head and tried to get my eyes off his gorgeous body. "Exercise renders me totally exhausted and gives me body pain. Besides, I'm not fat." I shrugged my shoulders.

He sat on his huge king-sized bed facing me. His brown eyes pierced my soul making me suddenly feel self-conscious about my body. Do I look fat? Have I added weight? Do I have a new stretch mark popping out?

"You are not fat," he said like he could read my mind and licked his red lips. "You are thick but exercise will keep you fit. It tones your body and makes you healthy." He gave a small smile making him look like a little kid admiring a candy wrap. He was that cute.

"Yeah, whatever. Back to why I'm here and can you please put something on, I'm beginning to feel like I stepped into a strip club." I pouted and he burst into laughter. It was the first time I heard him laugh, his laughter is musical and makes his dimples pop.

"I can see you are really affected, but it is good that you find me attractive." He said with a wink and went to his wardrobe. His wardrobe displayed multiple new suits and clothes that were barely touched.

"How do you manage alone in this huge house?" I stared at my phone while he changed.

"Well, I have learnt to live on my own for the longest period. I love my space and solace but sometimes I have friends that come visiting, and you can always come around any time." He winked.

"Why are you being nice all of a sudden?" I squinted my eyes, scrutinizing him.

"Because I have always been nice. The pressure of work and all tends to make me malfunction at times, but teasing you makes me happy." He walked towards me and wiggled his brows playfully, with a smile on I slapped his chest.

"Now let's find the documents, shall we?" He stretched his hands towards me, I accepted it and he pulled me off the couch and soon we were heading downstairs.

We walked into a huge private living room that had a huge aquarium with big colourful life fishes swimming around as the floor, it is a freaking floor aquarium. It looked fragile and delicate that I was scared to take a step.

"How do you do it? Won't the glass crack?" I asked breathlessly and stared around, marvelled by more beauty. The fireplace crackled softly and the air conditioner was in medium making it the perfect room temperature.

"The glass was made using the molecular infusion of glass and metal, majorly titanium making it break-resistant. So feel free to jump and walk around, you won't need to surrender your one year salary to get it fixed." He chuckled and sat on a brown couch.

"Wow, you are filthy rich," I exclaimed and walked towards the pile of documents and began my search.

After twenty minutes of precise and meticulous searching, I found it inside another document and shielding it from view.

"Here you go Alex, you can do your boss thing now." I shrugged as I handed the file over and began taking my leave.

"Wait a minute." He shouted, raising his hands to stop me. "Are you leaving already?" He furrowed his brows.

"Well technically, my job here is done and I abandoned my breakfast to come help you." I gesticulated widely with my hands.

"And don't you think it is my responsibility to pay you back for your help?" He cocked a brow and walked towards me slowly.

"Uh- how?" I gave a questioning look.

"By," he bit his lip slowly and advanced towards me taking baby steps while I reversed back till my back touched the wall, making me stand rooted in the spot.

My mouth is partly opened, my heart is heaving up and down while I struggled to breathe. He touched my face with a trembling hand and held my gaze. His brown eyes dilated and his perfume clouded my thoughts. My legs were going weak and every other person and thing disappeared from my memory it was as if my memory was formatted.

He raised my jaw with his index finger and trailed my neck slowly with another finger till he reached my collar bone and plucked out a black thread from my gown. He then snorted and began chuckling so hard while slapping his thighs making me look like an idiot.

"What were you thinking? That I was gonna kiss you? Never forget you are not my spec." He laughed harder further stabbing me in the heart.

"The feeling is mutual, I don't find you attractive either." I began grinning seeing how his smile dissolved into a frown within a second.

"You are kidding, right? I know you are joking. You do feel something for me and it is written all over you. My instinct tells me that." He argued.

"Too bad your instinct is a bloody liar. I feel nothing for you, absolutely nothing." I tried to swallow my feelings so they remained ever buried.

"Is that so?" His tone was amused which irritated me more.

"Yep, nothing."

He took one step towards me with a smirk on his face. I swallowed, refusing to back up. He laughed at my discomfort. "Relax woman, I am not going to jump on you like a predator."

That relieved me somewhat, until he added, "not unless you want me to anyway." He winked.

Understanding Alex is like studying science. You need observation, hypothesis, practicals, experiments and finally examination. He just proved that he has bipolar disorder indeed. Heaven knows how much I yearned for the kiss, it felt real like it was going to happen and the next minute, he is tearing me down telling me I'm not his spec. Why the hell did he have to ruin the moment with some distasteful prank.

"C'mon, I haven't had breakfast myself so let Chika fix us pancakes to eat or do you have any other food you specifically prefer?" He snapped his finger, pointing at my direction with his head tilted to a side.

"Pancakes, honey, eggs and coffee will be perfect." I tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear and soon we were in the elevator heading to the kitchen where we will watch Chika make us breakfast.

Maybe the meeting wasn't so bad after all, he was nice to me as a good host. I hope our working relationship will definitely improve after today.
