Chapter 37: Chapter 37
We made our way through the never-ending forest. At least we could have a talk while walking, but we didn’t. Iam lost in my own thoughts. Thinking about the secrets we exposed. Jacen, Noah, and I need to discuss that after these games. At least my secret is about Queen Victoria, but Jacen and Noah’s about me. Only me. I need to get this out of my mind. I can’t think about this right now. I need to win this game. Get the Phoenix stone and win it.
“Jacen, are we going in the right direction?” I asked without turning back. I feel like we are walking forever. Jacen didn’t reply to me. When I turned, there’s no one with me. No sign of Jacen or Noah. There are with me a minute ago. What the hell is happening? Did I get lost, or did they get lost? I ended up alone now.
“Jacen,” I called him, but there’s only silence. Except for some growling noise.
“Is someone here?” I asked, looking in every direction. The bushes moved near me. I took a step back and got ready to attack if something bad happens. The growling and snarling noise is getting louder from somewhere.
Suddenly, something came out of the bushes. It’s a werewolf. Without thinking, I attacked it with my power. The wolf dodged and changed to its human form in front of my eyes and hid behind the bush again.
“It’s me, Sydney.” I heard a familiar voice from the bush.
“Amelia,”
“Yep, give me time to change my dress,”
“Why did you change your form?” I asked, waiting for her to get dressed.
“I need to teach lessons to some stupid competitors. They tempted my fury, and I lost my patience,”
“I thought you never get angry at anyone,”
“Well, you don’t know me. I rarely get angry and no one can bear it,” she emerged from the bushed wearing her uniform, which is full of dust because of leaving it on the ground. The growling noise didn’t stop. Amelia is standing next to me. Then who could it be?
Before I could ask this question to Amelia, the ground trembled. I can hear heavy footsteps near us. A cyclops appeared behind the tree. It growled and ripped the trees from its roots.
“Run,” Amalia said, and we were both in the same direction. It already noticed us and there’s no way to escape unless we fight it back.
“We can’t run. We need to face it,” I shouted, still running.
“Do you think Iam running because Iam afraid? We almost reached the house to get the stone. We are so near it. If we stop and fight it back, we can’t win this game,” she breathlessly said. In the beginning, she’s not even interested in this game and now she is determined by it.
Before I could reply, my watch beeped. “Oh no, there’s only one hour to go. How did time run this fast?”
“I know that,” she replied. Suddenly, I slipped and fell down. Amelia is already gone too far without me. I guess I need to fight back. When the cyclops approached, I raised my bow and arrow, and my power transferred to the arrow. When I released it, the arrow was burning with a blue fire and went straight into its eye. I stumbled and took some steps back as it growled in pain. It must have lost its vision, but it didn’t. A never seen a cyclops healed. It went much angrier than before and when it growled this time, another cyclops appeared behind it.
“Sydney, I told you to run,” Amelia shouted, who is standing feet’s away from me. When I turned back, Iam attacked by the cyclops and was thrown near a tree. I hit the tree hard and fell down. My head hurts. Everything around me was blurry. I can’t see the two cyclopses clearly. The night sky is too dark and dark clouds have appeared all of a sudden.
“Sydney. Get up,” Amelia ran towards me and helped me get up. My vision came back and I can see some boy over the cyclops. He raised his hands, and the lightning struck around somewhere. It’s like he’s controlling it.
“Who is that?” I asked Amelia, but she was looking at her watch.
“Two members in our group are out, Sydney. Plus, the Phoenix stone was already taken. At least we need to win the second or third place,” she informed me. I looked at mine and saw the names. Sebastian and Leona. Then my attention went back to the boy. He lifted his hands again and lightning struck right on the cyclops. I saw the lightning strikes right in front of me. He is the one who’s doing it. Who could it be? Who saved my life? Then he turned back.
“Noah,” Iam shocked. I have too many questions going on in my mind.
“I will take care of this. One of us in our group needs to win. Go, Sydney,” Noah seriously said, and Amelia grabbed my hand and started running.
“We can’t leave him alone, Amelia,” I resisted and took my hands out of her grip.
“It’s not the time for that. He doing it for us. One of us needs to win. Come on. Don’t look back,” she said and finally, the house came into our view. It’s looking like some haunted mansion.
“How did he get that power?” I asked in confusion.
“Some vampires can control lightning. It’s not the time for your questions.” Amelia yelled in irritation. I closed my mouth and didn’t talk further. Two members are already out. Iam with Amelia. Noah is fighting the cyclops alone. I don’t know where is Jacen.
We both entered the mansion, opening the rusted gate. I guess most of them can’t able to make it there. My watch beeped again. I angrily turned to Amelia after I looked at my watch.
“Noah’s out. I told you, we need to stay with him,” I shouted at her.
“He compromised so at least one of us could win. Don’t argue with me,” she shouted back.
“What if he got injured? We could have helped him. Don’t you know, if one lost the games over three times they will be kicked out. I don’t want him to go because of me,”
“Stop it. He’s a vampire, he’s not going to lose his life,”
“Fine.” I went inside without waiting for her. I don’t need her to accompany me. Iam going to get that crystal blue stone for Noah. I left him alone when I could stand with him and fight back. Fighting alone is kinda difficult. Especially in the case of handing two cyclopses. Even though he told me to run, I should have stayed. Noah’s life is important than this game.
What is done is done. I won’t give up until I win this over. 30 minutes to go. Let’s see what’s going to happen before the game ends.
