Chapter 38: Chapter 38
A few minutes later Sonia pulled over angrily at the police station, I decided not to respond anymore to what she has to say because I already know what it's going to be like.
One thing I know about Sonia is that when she sets her mind on something she finds a way to always get what she wants but this time even if she finally gets what she wanted by becoming my wife eventually, my heart will never be hers because it already beats for another even when she is already happily married with kids.
"Get down, Kyle," she said without looking at me, I know her too well, so I know how angry she is right but that's no concern of mine.
I just searched my suit pocket to see if I have my wallet with me and thankfully, I do, Sonia will not be willing to drive me back home in a mood like this, which means I would have to find my way home myself, which is good for me, at least, I won't have to feel my heart tightening from anger.
"Where is she?" Sonia asked one of the police officers, as we walked into the police station, I can't remember ever going to a police station before, not that I had any reason to, but because of Sonia, I had to be here today.
"Welcome Miss Sonia," the police officer said, he sounded like she frequently visited this place and am not surprised anyway, "You're back here, and with Mr Kyle too, I bet you're here to teach that woman a lesson," the officer added and a few other officers laughed at his silly statement.
"What's your name?" I asked the officer boiling with rage, how dare he make fun of the woman I love.
"Scott, my name is Scott," he replied.
"Officer Scott..." I was saying when Sonia interrupted me,
"Take us to that woman, Scott," She said, I think she knows what am about to say to him, a man like him should not be a part of a police force, it's his type that brings down the reputation of police officers.
"There she is," Officer Scott said pointing at Kimberly.
"Kimberly Brown, you have guests," Office Scott told her, even though she saw us coming, the look on her face shows how angry she is, and I do not blame her for it, who wouldn't be? Especially in a situation like hers.
I watched as the woman sitting next to her whispered something in her ears, they looked like they have acquainted with one another, she must be friendly to have acquainted so soon with someone she just met and in a place like this, even in her situation, but the look on her face the moment she saw us brought fresh pain to my heart.
I know what she must be thinking about me right now seeing I and Sonia together like this, I wonder if I would ever get the chance to explain everything that has happened to her, I also do not know if she would believe a thing I say, if only I wasn't a coward back then, maybe things may not have come to this, and on top of the heavy load, I bare, mum asks that I make her apologize to Sonia, this is adding salt to an injury, I thought.
"Have you come to let me go? Or you are here to make more ridicule of yourself." Kimberly said standing up from where she is seated, the woman she's with, lifted her hand to tap her, I guess she doesn't approve of what Kimberly just said, she probably knows my family and who Sonia is as well, a lot of people know her and they tend to be afraid of her, especially those from poor families.
"Kyle, tell this woman what we're here for, just get it over and done with, and please explain to her the consequences attached if she does not do as she is told.
I looked at Sonia boiling with rage inside of me, that I feel like putting in her place this minute but when I think of what mum had said and the result my action would yield, I had no option than to control what I feel right now, so that Kimberly can go back to her kids.
"Well, Kimberly, we are not here to..."
"I said get it over and done with, Kyle," Sonia said interrupting me.
"I'm on it, Sonia," I told her, doing my best to hold back the anger I feel inside.
"Mrs Kimberly, I know you would love to be with your son this minute, don't let what am about to say to you get in the way of your being with your son...,"
"As she said, get on with it," Kimberly told me bluntly, interrupting me too, she's referring to what Sonia had told me earlier.
I stared at her for a while, shocked that she would say that to me too, but I guess I deserved it, and I saw how happy that made Sonia feel although she did not show it out rightly, her body language made it clear to me.
"The thing is, Mrs Kimberly, if you want to leave this place as soon as possible and be with your son, you need to apologize to Sonia," I summoned the courage to say to her...
