Chapter 35: Chapter 35
"Hello, mum," Sonia said, walking into the living room a few minutes after mum dropped her call.
Thank goodness she's here, mum has been boring me with so many lectures on how to properly take care of my body if I am not feeling well, I can't possibly tell her the reason for my weakness, it's going to make her very angry with me.
"Hello, Sonia," mum replied allowing Sonia to hug her briefly while she did the same in return.
"Have a seat," mum said, gesturing for her to take a seat on the couch opposite us, from the look on mum's face I could tell that she is angry with Sonia because of what she has done.
"Thanks, mum," she replied like a dutiful and obedient daughter in law, I know she is only acting, and this act of hers irritates me very much.
"May I ask where you're coming from, Sonia?" Mum asked after she's seated.
Sonia shot me a wild glance for a while, I know what that glance of hers depicts, I know she knew I must have told mum about what she's done.
She held her knees together, and sitting up on the couch, "Is there a problem, mum?" She asked, in a deceitful tone of hers, if you are only meeting her for the first time, you will think of her as such an innocent and harmless human being, but I know her too well, and I hate that she fools my parents so well especially my mum, I didn’t know she has this side of her when we were still friends but after our differences, I can see her for who she truly is.
"Answer the question, Sonia," I snapped at her, I couldn't contain the anger I feel inside me right now, I would have gone to the police station and get Kimberly released at once if it were that easy, Sonia has some influence as well because of her dad, and I know that's also the reason why my dad is insisting on our alliance, only he didn't know that Sonia only has eyes for our family’s wealth and power, her dad has influence but he is not as wealthy and powerful as our family, the Greenwood’s, we are number one in this city.
"Hold on Kyle, am the one in charge here," Mum said turning to give me a warning stare, I stare back at her too, trying to control my emotions.
"Tell me where you're coming from, Sonia," Mum asked again, facing Sonia.
"Am coming from the hospital, Mum," she replied.
"Lair, you were at the police station, when we talked over the phone." I snapped at her, still unable to control my emotions, the thought of Kimberly being locked up in the police cell makes my blood boil, especially when she is locked up for no just reason at that, away from her little kids.
"Kyle," Mum yelled my name, giving me another warning glance, before turning again to face Sonia.
"I'm not a lair Kyle, I'm coming from the hospital, I did go to the police station though, but went back to the hospital after that, so you see I'm not a lair, you can ask, Doctor Sam if you don't believe me." She said.
That can't be, because when I called her earlier she told me she's at the police station, how fast could she have driven to have gone back to the hospital and then be here in such a short while?
"So what did you do in the police station?"Mum asked, leaning back on the couch her eyes fixed on Sonia.
"I arrested someone, mum," she said.
Finally, she can tell the truth for once without dragging it on, this is new though, and looking at her closely, I can tell she's up to something, but I just don't know what, exactly.
"Who did you arrest?" Mum asked rather slowly and calmly too, I think it's because she already knows the answer to that question.
"It's the mother of the boy, Kyle had knocked down with his car, mum," she said.
"Why did you have her arrested?" Mum asked again, still in a calm manner.
"Mum?" I yelled, "You shouldn't be asking such a question, tell her to release her at once," I snapped, angry that she's even asking such a question in the first place.
"Excuse me, Kyle, there's no smoke without a fire, Sonia would not get her arrested for nothing, she's not mad," Mum said giving me that warning look again, am surprised that she seems to take Sonia's side and this is getting me more infuriated.
"Exactly, mum, exactly," Sonia said lifting her hand in a way of demonstrating, "Mum, that woman slapped me in the face," she added, turning the side of her cheek where she's been slapped.
"What? She did what?" Mum asked sounding surprised. "She slapped me, Mum, and you know what the angriest part is? Kyle was there when it happened, and he said and did nothing about it," Sonia told mum, sounding like she's so innocent too herself.
"What? Kyle was there?" Mum asked, sounding so surprised, turning to look at me.
"Wait, you didn't tell mum, did you?" Sonia asked, sounding surprised herself, and I think she is mocking me right now, "He was there at the hospital when that woman slapped me and he did nothing about it," she added, glaring at me.
"You went to the hospital?" Mum asked again, "I thought you were coming from the office," Mum added, still sounding and looking surprised.
"Office?" Sonia asked, "No, mum, Kyle's coming from the hospital, and guess what he went there to do," Sonia added, I knew she was up to something, and I see where this whole thing is headed, Sonia wants to turn this on me...
"What were you doing at the hospital, Kyle? Your dad told you to stay off the case," Mum said angrily at me.
"How can I stay off the case, mum?" I replied angrily too, unable to contain my anger.
"Oh, I see, So you were asked not to go back to the hospital, Kyle," Sonia said mockingly.
"Shut up, Sonia, stay away from this?" I snapped at her.
"What were you doing in the hospital, Kyle?" Mum asked again, her eyes fixed on me.
"You won't believe it, mum, you won't believe what Kyle went to do at the hospital," Sonia said.
"Shut up, Sonia," I yelled angrily at her.
"Tell me, Sonia, what did he go there for?" Mum asked turning to face her.
"Don't say anything, Sonia," I yelled again.
"Am sorry, Kyle, but she's your mum and I think she deserves to know," Sonia said to me in the dutiful daughter in law kind of way, and I feel like smacking her face this minute, if that will get her to keep quiet.
"Kyle donated his blood to that ladies son..." Sonia told mum.
"Don't listen to her mum," I said, shaking my head, mum wasn't supposed to know about this, I know how she gets whenever it concerns my health, maybe because of my rare blood type, I know Brian wouldn't have said anything to mum and dad about this, but this w*tch Sonia has revealed what I wanted to keep away from mum and dad, I knew she was up to something, but I didn't see this one coming...
