Chapter 13: Chapter 13
“What the heck happened to you, Kyle.” Brian said the moment he walked into my room.
“Brian...?” I said sitting up on my bed, feeling a little better as I have slept a little.
“Yes Kyle, get up, dad is not happy with you, get your sheet together cause he is coming right in...” Brian was about to finish his statement when dad stormed into my room with mum walking in right behind him.
“How dare you leave a meeting I have called for your selfish gain? And how dare you disobey my orders?” Dad asked immediately he walked into my room.
I can see that he is burning in rage, I just adjusted myself on my bed and said nothing, rather I looked up at Brian.
“Don't look at him, look at me when I’m talking young man.” Dad said to me again, and I can literally hear the rage in his voice.
I quickly looked away from Brian and looked at mum instead.
She is standing behind dad and gesturing for me not to say anything.
She knew me, I am not like Brian, I wouldn't have gone on with dad’s plan in the first place if not for mum.
“You asked him to leave, didn't you Brian? After I told him to come to the meeting.” Dad said this time turning to face Brian.
“No dad.” Brian replied, without looking at him directly.
“Who told you that you can be lazy here.” Dad said, turning to me again.
I looked from him to mum, who is behind him, constantly gesturing for me to keep quiet.
“Now you look at this.” He said again, throwing some documents onto my bed.
“That is the nonsense you claimed you have been working on all night?” he yelled at me, pointing to the documents he threw on my bed.
I turned to look at the documents to see that they are the same documents I have given to him earlier today for the meeting.
“What’s wrong with the documents dad?” I asked, looking from dad to Brian getting confused.
“They are a bunch of your mistakes in there.” Dad yelled again pointing to the documents.
“Now you get your lazy self together and fix those documents, get them ready by tomorrow morning.” He said in an authoritative tone.
“I’m not lazy dad, I just needed a break that's all.” I said looking up to him as he called me lazy again, ignoring mum's gesture to keep quiet this time.
“What! You need a break? A break from what?” Dad snapped, glaring at me.
“A break from you dad, from everything, I need to breadth...” I yelled standing up from the bed, I just couldn't take it anymore.
He's been a total control frick and it is really draining the life out of me.
“How dare you? If we all start taking breaks do you think you can still maintain this much wealth and power?” dad snapped again.
“I do not need your wealth and power dad, I just want to be able to do the things I love that’s all." I told him.
“You what? You ungrateful son of a...” Dad shouted, he couldn't finish his statement before mum stepped in.
“Gregory, come on dear take it easy on your son, he will learn, I’ll make sure of it.” Mum said trying to calm him.
“Don't tell me to take it easy on your son, if I had taken it easy on myself years ago, I wouldn't have maintained any of this wealth they are enjoying today.” Dad snapped at mum.
“Look around You, this is not how my dad left off before he died, I have made so much progress as my dad's only child and have maintained this family's legacy upon till this time and I cannot watch it collapse under my watch, not in my time.” He said angrily to mum.
“I am an only child and I have made my dad proud by producing two sons and taken over from him firmly before he died, I expect the same from my sons, but the both of them wants to be losers, the first cannot produce an heir for me while the other is trying to be headstrong on the rules of this family.” Dad continued angrily.
“You better talk sense into him.” Dad said again to mum, and then stormed out of my room again.
“Mum, I’m tired of this, how long will he continue to treat us like this?” I asked mum, feeling really frustrated.
“This family legacy something is really draining the life out of me, first learnt the family business and then get married to Sonia.” I said, venting out my frustration.
“I don't want any of that mum, can't he see that?” I yelled, looking from Mum to Brian, who just stood there saying nothing.
I feel sorry for him but sometimes, I just get angry because he is too quiet for my liken, I wish that he could stand up for himself, maybe dad wouldn't be dictating our lives for us.
“Come on son, you can't talk like that, don’t worry you'll get used to the family business soon and as for Sonia, you too will make a fine couple, just try and understand her that's all.” Mum said trying to calm me down, while I just shook my head in disagreement.
“Take me and your dad, for example, we were joined together by our parents, and Brian and Belinda too.” Mum continued.
“And how is that walking out for you guys?” I asked looking from mum to Brian.
“You know what? I don’t know about you Brian, but I don't think I can take this anymore.” I said picking up my jacket from the bed and my car keys, heading for the door.
“Where are you going to Kyle?” Mum asked, sounding worried.
“Anywhere but here Mum.” I said and walked out of my room.
I do not know where I am going to go exactly, but I think going out on a drive will do.
