Chapter 33: Chapter 33
I have no idea how many hours I have been standing outside the building, looking up and watching the entrance open and close every time someone enters. They all look formal, and I am the only one wearing the dress. I was so bitten on my lower lip, queasy.
I tightened my grip on the paper bag I was carrying. Eddie told me I didn't know how I would get to the top of the building. He left earlier and left me alone here. I should have told him to wait for me because how could I go home?
I let out a violent breath. This is not right. I should just go home. It's embarrassing to come in looking like this even though I'm wearing a face mask.
"Hello, Ma'am."
I jumped in shock when someone spoke. I turned to my side and saw a guard standing with a gun. I backed away, and suddenly the scenario played in my brain back then in the middle of the woods with Allen. I was shaken by the fear that he might do something dreadful to me.
"I-I didn't do anything wrong!" I said. My lips trembled, and my whole body went numb for a minute.
"Ma'am? What are you talking about? I was just going to ask why are you still standing there just staring outside the building." the guard's brows furrowed in confusion, pointing at the building's entrance.
I didn't say anything, but I was relieved when he didn't notice my features. They haven't heard about the news, and I just hope it won't spread here like a disease. I saw his eyes travel down to the paper bag I was holding.
"Are you going to deliver a lunch to your husband? If yes, all family members can go inside, but you have to leave your ID with me here," he said, and I froze in my spot when I didn't have it with me. Even if I do, I won't show it to him. It's speculative.
"U-uhh…I don't have my ID with me. Can I just log in with the log book and write the date? I swear, I'm just going to deliver this to Harry." I pleaded with the guard since my heart was beating against my chest terribly fast, tightening and making it hard for me to catch my breath.
"Harry…Sir Harry? Are you his wife?"
I bit my tongue. I wanted to say no since I already have Ethan in my life. Still, the moment I say that to him, he'll probably push me away, and I won't be able to deliver this food to him. I swallowed the lump in my throat, suppressing my heart from exploding.
"Yes," I said confidently, even though my guilt consumed me.
His eyes widened in shock, and his jaw dropped to the ground. The guard suddenly turned around and opened the door, letting me inside the building. He bowed his head a little, giving me his respect. I blink, befuddled, before stepping inside. The guard greeted me politely. His tone of change suddenly changed. I smiled at him even if I knew he won't see my face before stepping my feet inside.
The air-conditioner was the first thing to greet me when I went inside. The hairs on my body would almost stand on end, and my shoulder would tremble in the cold. I took a deep breath, smelling the fragrant smell of the surroundings. I couldn't help but shrink from my spot as I observed the looks of the people around me. God, everything screams luxury and power.
I saw an elevator up ahead that would help me get to the topmost floor. When I hurriedly ran to catch it, I saw people were about to go inside. However, when I was about to reach the elevator, someone abruptly stopped me.
"Hello, ma'am. Good day. You don't need to run."
I ceased from my tracks, my cheeks getting red from the embarrassment. I coughed and looked at the lady behind the counter. She's smiling sweetly at me, but I can sense her judgment under those beauteous eyes. She looks at me from head to toe, questioning my appearance in here.
"May I know what your appointment here is?" she asked. Her hands are on a keyboard, and a big flat screen is presented to her. I blink, not understanding her question.
"P-pardon?" I was taken aback and couldn't get her the first time. She sighed, somehow looking annoyed, before smiling again.
"You need to set an appointment, Ma'am, before you would enter this building and go meet someone." hey eyes darted down to the paper bag I was holding, and the realization hit her.
"If you are going to deliver food for your husband, Ma'am, I suggest contacting him and fetch it down here-"
"I don't have Harry's number," I cut her before she could finish her sentence.
The woman blinked, "Come again?"
"Uh…" I motioned the paper bag I was holding, smiling at her with my eyes only.
"This is for Harry, actually. We're living in the same house, and I want to deliver his food for him."
The woman's jaw hung open as if she had heard the terrible news. She blinks multiple times before forcing herself to smile.
"I-I recall sir Harry doesn't have a wife…" the woman mumbled.
"But since you two live in a house together, I'll let you pass. Do you want me to call for him-"
"No! It's okay. I was planning to surprise him."
I recall Harry was having a meeting right now, and I don't want to cause any trouble to him to go down here just to get the food. I'll bring it personally to him at the top. The woman gestured her hand, telling me to go ahead to the elevator. I thank her before strolling toward the elevator. I click the arrow that's pointing downwards. The door opened, and I stepped inside. When the elevator was about to close, I saw the woman on the counter calling someone on the phone while glancing at me before the elevator wholly closed.
I was the only one here. I clicked on the highest floor, and the elevator started to travel upwards. While waiting and listening to the tunes, I reflect on myself. I noticed my hair was a little bedraggled. I fixed my hair a little, and as if on cue, the elevator opened, and someone was waiting outside.
My eyes increased a little when I saw a woman standing there talking to someone on her phone. I couldn't help but gawk at her appearance. Long, silky, naturally waved golden curls. She has long, smooth legs, making her height look spectacular. Her face is apple-shaped, with cute plump lips and a pointy nose. I blink, telling myself I should stop gawking at her visual aspect. She might find me creepy and annoying. The woman's eyes shifted to my spot, and I almost jumped in surprise when our eyes locked for a moment.
"Stacey, I'll call you back. Thank you for telling me." the woman ended her call before stepping inside the elevator. I scooped to the side, and at the same time, I smelled her sweet and lady-like scent filling my nostrils. I inhaled a sharp breath, looking anywhere but her when I could feel her eyes boring.
"Hi, I haven't seen you here around."
I slowly looked at her, and it was stupid of me to point at myself. The woman clearly rolled her eyes, crossing her arms before staring at me from head to feet. I bit my lip under the mask, suppressing the urge not to stick out my tongue and whisper words to her. What the heck is her problem? I didn't do anything wrong to her, though.
"Yes, you. I am talking to you." she suddenly smiled and offered her hand.
"I am Jessica, by the way, Harry's girlfriend if you don't know."
My eyes widened when she introduced herself to me. I was shaken by her words. I blink, looking at her closely. She's like a goddess. She was waiting for me to shake her hand, and I was sweating bullets. I raised my trembling hands, accepting her shake. Jessica's smile grew wider before letting go first.
A long deafening silence crept between us, and I couldn't grasp the tension forming. I could tell she hated me at first glance. How she twitched her mouth and narrowed her eyes while looking at my head to foot screams judgment. I just hope she didn't hear about the news I am Harry's wife when clearly I am not. That's just my way to get inside here and bring his lunch.
"Is that for Harry? I heard you are his wife."
I quickly shake my head, waving my hand in dismissal. Jessica arched her brow, waiting for my explanation.
"He's not my husband, actually. I just said that since the guard doesn't want me to go inside this building-"
"-and he's absolutely right. I'm proud of that guard. I should tell Harry about increasing his salary."
My brows knitted into a straight line. I clearly stated to her I was not Harry's wife. She must have been thinking something else. Damn, if only she knew about Ethan's existence, he would probably question Harry, but I hope it won't lead to that.
"I'm sorry, but why are you rude?"
I couldn't help but ask her this question. Jessica suddenly snatched the paper bag, and because of the sudden situation, the paper bag ripped off. The container with food fell on the elevator's floor, scattering all over.
"Eww! Rice? With sunny side up and sausages? What do you think of Harry? A fucking kid?" Jessica clenched her stomach, bursting her laughter. Suddenly, I couldn't think straight and was blinded by anger.
"You're so-"
I slapped her before she could even finish her statement. At the same time, the elevator opened, and someone spoke with a familiar voice.
