Chapter 13: Chapter 13

“You want to remove the wolf soul and your pack just to become a normal citizen?” The woman asked carefully, squinting her eyes to make sure she heard the right words.

The packs were silent as they looked at each other. It was evident in their eyes the doubts about continuing this or not. Honestly, even I was hooked up from the situation. I could feel the rising tension and the life-changing moments they would encounter. I am not a werewolf, and I don’t know what it feels like. But, seeing them all bruised and injured just because they were different from the others makes them end up in this situation.

They have no other choice.

The Alpha stood up straight, clenching his hands and gritting his teeth. He loos like his deceased father and a combination of his mother. The Alpha’s Mate grabbed his hand, shaking her head to stop this because he is the Alpha and can protect them all. However, I saw the exhaustion in his eyes. He was getting tired of it, and he admitted he was weak.

“Very well. I can cast a spell on your whole pack to make them like a permanent human beings.”

The Alpha nodded when the woman offered her hand to him. He was about to take the offer when the woman spoke again, and this time, it was a hard decision.

“Nonetheless, if you take this offer, generations after generations of your blood will hold the curse of a half-werewolf.”

The Alpha took a step back, unable to reach her hands this time. The Mate was telling to leave the place, but the Alpha chose to stand there, watching the woman’s taunting offer.

“W-what do you mean?!”

The woman laughed derisively then raised her hands. A loud screeching sound of thunder suddenly hit the ground, and a small fire encircled them. The pack panicked, and since they were injured, they couldn’t escape nor even lay hands on the woman.

“Your pack will remain human, and the hunters will leave them for good. However, in your bloodline, the Alpha, those born with twins will suffer from the curse of the half-wolf form. But I will give you a little deduction since I will be taking your soul after this.”

The woman stood up straight, looking down at them as if they were the peasants and she was the ruler of her own kingdom they trespassed to.

“The other twin will live freely according to the human life. While the other twin will live with the curse. Only one of the children will suffer, but that will be according to the parenting of your next generation.”

None of them said anything. The Alpha dropped to the ground, crying and begging. I raised my hands to stopped this nonsense, but then I remembered that this was just a projection of a memory long ago. I bit my inner cheeks, and I felt something pierced through my heart about how hopeless the pack looks like. It was different from the first part of how they were projected. There are a few of them right now, and some have half of the chance to survive.

“What do you say? Are you willing to sacrifice for the sake of your pack? Or live in vain?!”

I shook my head in anticipation when I saw the Alpha stop trembling. He already had a choice. He slowly stood on the ground. His eyes were staring out of nowhere. His Mate was choking him, begging him to just go back and live far away from the sight of hunters. What’s even more depressing is the Mate holding their child, and it is a twin!

“No! Please!”

“I love you. Please take care of our child, and long live the pack!”

“NO!”

The light suddenly intensified, and everything was blinding from the sight. I covered my eyes with my hands, wondering what happened next. Everything went accelerated. You couldn’t catch up with the following scenes. I saw babies after babies were born until they stopped two familiar babies crying. It’s in the modern era now, and some nurses were clapping.

“Congratulations! It’s a twin baby boy!”

The light toned down now, and I could perfectly see the two babies crying and giggling. A tear escaped from my eyes when the baby opened its eyes, and it stare at me as if the baby saw me. He raised his hand to catch my arms when a nurse suddenly lifted him up.

“What are you going to name your baby, Ma’am?”

There was a moment of silence. The nurse gave the woman’s twins on her side. She was resting on the hospital bed, looking at her angels.

“Ethan and Nathan…”

My eyes widened, and I couldn’t breathe suddenly. The light snapped, and everything went completely dark. I just stood there, looking like a freak trying to comprehend everything I had seen. I heard a flickering, and the light coming from above turned on. I squinted my eyes, looking at the light hitting directly below me. Is everything I saw true? Or am I just hallucinating?

I heard a loud thud, and I followed my gaze to see what is it. A book was lying on the ground, so I bent down to pick it up. I opened it to see the pages, but instead of words, I saw portraits. There were familiar faces of people sketched here when I realized it was the pack that I had seen earlier.

I flip through pages and pages. The author of the book was anonymous. When I flipped to the end of the page I gasped when I saw Ethan and Chanel’s faces and there were words carved on their portraits below.

“To uplift the curse, one must drink the blood of the other and eternally become a human. If one dies before they can meet, there is an alternative way to break the oath. One must find the jar of the blood of the last Alpha and negotiate with him in the spirit domain.”

When I closed the book, I saw a familiar face of a woman carved on it. I caressed it lightly, reminiscing why the woman looked implausibly familiar when I recalled the woman in the projection earlier. She was the owner of this book! Behind her was a prominent place. I squinted my eyes and narrowed them to look closely, only to find out it was the mansion we were living in right now.

The flashbacks I saw earlier happened here in the exact same place. The negotiation occurred here. Ethan’s ancestors came here from this place. They broke the curse here, and to break it again, one must drink the blood from his ancestor!

Jar…jar! I need to find a jar here!

I dropped the book and hurriedly went to the shelves to find a jar with blood. There must be something here! The woman who removed the curse lives in this place! I didn’t stop searching and pushing all of the unnecessary boxes until I ceased when I heard a glass shattered on the floor. My eyes widened in horror when I looked at it and saw it was the jar I was looking for! No!

I hurriedly picked up the broken piece and went back to Ethan’s side. I grabbed his jaw and opened his mouth.

“Please, just a drop….” I muttered hopefully. My hands were shaking uncontrollably due to extreme pressure. I closed my eyes and dropped it on his chest, yelling.

This is all my fault! The only chance that Ethan could go back to normal was because of this blood! Now it was drained because of my clumsiness! Oh god, I wouldn’t forgive myself. I clenched my fist on the hem of his shirt while my whole upper body was shaking from mourning.

The only chance…

The only thing that could help us…not only my relationship with him…but also his life…

“I’m so sorry…Ethan.” I whispered on his chest where his heart was while balling my fist. I don’t know if there is a possibility that Ethan will wake up after being unconscious for hours down here. I heard Bobby’s bark stomps of his paw rushing down on the basement, looking for us. I felt his fur rubbing my side body while I buried my face in his chest.

“I’m so sorry, Bobby.” I peeked at him. My eyes were sore from crying too much. Bobby was looking at Ethan’s body, his ears were dropped, and his eyes hinted at grief. The sight of it is enough to swell my tears again, but I restrain myself since I don’t want Bobby to stress him.

“Come here. Mommy is here.” I gestured my hand, indicating for him to come closer to me. Bobby scooped closer until he was burying his face in my lap. Bobby frowned and groaned, and I heard him sniff. He’s crying too. I lowered my vision to the ground. Something struck painfully in my heart that led to a fatality.

“I failed your father, Bobby. It was not my intention.” I mumbled while caressing his head. A long deafening silence crept us down here in the basement. I let out a shaky breath, losing so much hope, when I heard Ethan shift from his position.

I opened my eyes and then noticed that his fingers were moving. My eyes widened slowly. I let go of Bobby then I kneeled down to hold Ethan’s cheeks. He was gaining consciousness!

“Ethan!” I tapped his face slightly, shaking his shoulders. I couldn’t stop the excitement I was feeling. Bobby wiggled his tail and went to Ethan’s chest to lick his face. Ethan groaned but laughed simultaneously, trying to stop Bobby from licking him.

“Hey, stop that tickles!”

I covered my mouth, and a tear escaped. I couldn’t help but thank the heavens above for giving Ethan a chance to wake up. I was so frightened earlier I thought I had lost him for good.

“Natasha…”

I froze on my spot and glanced at Ethan to see him looking at me. However, I noticed something changed in his appearance. He looks…different.

His pupils become naturally dark.
