Chapter 65: Chapter 65
At first, I didn't pay much attention to it because maybe I just imagined what I heard. But, there was another rattle, and this time it was louder than what I had heard before. I was suddenly thrown back on my bed. I roamed my eyes around the surroundings. I swallowed several times as my hands were trembling.
My eyes narrowed as I examined the door. I didn't realize that it was midnight when I fell asleep. I darted around the room, but I didn't see even a shadow of Ethan. Where is he? I thought he would come back? Why am I still here alone in the cabin at midnight?
I tried to move, but I just winced at the pain I felt in my back. It hurts every time I move. I took a deep breath, repeatedly to take courage before I pushed myself to be able to sit on the side of the bed.
"Ethan?"
I tried to call his name. Instead, interminable stillness welcomed me. Maybe they were all outside because that's where I heard the clatter. I slowly stood up, taking my time to move. When I finally stood up, I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. You can do this, Natasha. You are not crippled. I started to step my foot towards the door. My legs were shaking, and my muscles ached, but I struggled to get to the door. I clung to the walls for support.
When I got to the opposing door, I was about to twist the knob when I suddenly stopped because I felt a presence behind me. I feel like a sculpture in my place because I can't move my hands. My eyes widened, and sweat formed on my forehead, dripping down my face. I looked to my side and saw a shadow standing there. Suddenly the demons in my stomach rumbled.
I blinked emphatically, trying to hold on even though I wanted to bloat out all of my food because of this nauseousness. I shook my head because I might just be imagining things. I prayed fervently. I wished I could lose the poundage I felt. When I ended my prayers, I slowly opened my eyes and turned my back. I did not see anything other than an empty cabin.
I took a deep breath and turned my attention back to the front. Still, my whole body was paralyzed when I saw the door open. The setting in front of me was why I suddenly vomited. My hands trembled, and I recoiled, shuddering. This can't be. My chest pounded so vociferously and fast. My heart and mind argued moreover what to do. I shook and backed away several times until I felt something hit my back.
I swallowed because I felt a strange presence behind me. I didn't look back immediately because my eyes focused on what was happening outside the cabin. I was almost immobilized with fear, and the hairs on my neck were standing when I felt a hand gradually wrap around my arm.
"Where are you going, Natasha?"
My eyes dilated even more when I heard the terrifying voice coming from behind me. I was biting on my tongue, restraining myself from screaming. I wanted to look back, but I already had an idea who it was. I tried to shake my shoulder to remove her hand from my body, but she didn't give up. I could feel her breath hitting my cheek.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything?"
Suddenly her atrocious laughter echoed all around the area. This time I ran away from her, to a place where she could not reach me!
"Ethan!" Even though I know it's probably too late, I called for his name. I felt tears flowing down my cheeks as a striking dagger pierced my heart.
"N-Natasha! G-go! Runaway!" he pushed me away, telling me I should just leave him alone. I shake my head, disagreeing with his statement. I raised my hand and was about to reach him when suddenly I felt something gash on my skin. I stopped running when I felt fluid gushing down from where my skin was shredded like a lump of meat.
I gulped the knot in my throat and then gradually looked down at my bottom part when I saw my body was sliced in half. I was stunned to even say a word. I heard Ethan screaming and crying, and he suddenly changed into his wolf shape. He was weakened, but he pushed himself, wanting to save me. Before he could extend my hand, we both heard a screeching laugh. We both looked at Charmaine, who was laughing wickedly. Her eyes were desiring blood as she crossed the gap between us.
"NO!"
I jolted up from my spot, realizing it was just a dream. I was short-winded for air when I looked around the area. I can see the light enlightening from the windows. The door burst open, and Ethan walked inside the cabin, his eyes scanning the whole room when his eyes landed on my spot.
"Natasha." he ran, then went to my side. He kneeled in front of me, stroking my hair and examining my face. Behind him was Charm, who was shocked to see me looking terrified.
"What happened, dear? Are you okay-" before she could hold my hand, I crawled away from her. Her eyes furrowed in confusion, then she looked at his grandad, watching from afar.
"What's wrong? What happened? Why did you suddenly scream?" he solemnly asked for my thoughts when I hadn't recovered from the trauma. I shut my eyes, breathing in and out to soothe my nerves. It's alright, Natasha. It was just a dream. You don't have to think of anything anymore.
"I-I'm fine…just had a direful nightmare," I explained while holding my chest, where my heart was beating.
Ethan didn't say anything as he promptly understood. He stood up and then sat on the edge, wrapping his arms around my body. He was ensuring to secure my body, telling me everything would be fine now that he was here on my side.
"What did you dream of, Natasha?" Charm asked, hopeful this time I wouldn't creep away from her. I slowly looked at her way, only to see her and her grandad watching me closely. I was hesitant to open my mouth and explain my dreams' details. It was nerve-racking.
I know it's impossible to happen because Charm looks like someone who can't even handgrip artillery. However, no matter how soft and saintlike is someone's feature, looks can also be deceiving.
"It's nothing, don't worry…." I don't know why I didn't tell them, or maybe it might sound assaultive to them, especially to Charmaine. She seriously looks solicitous to know what's wrong.
"Are you sure? Do you need some water?" she asked, and before I could answer her, she abruptly went to the kitchen, fishing some glass of water for me. I watched her pour water from the sink. I narrowed my eyes, overseeing her, when the old man said something, making me almost jump in my spot.
"You should eat more and have a proper bed rest. Charm helped her to your room."
Charm suddenly appeared before me, offering the water. I was indecisive about taking it from her, but in the end, I thanked her and then took it. I chugged it down when Charm stormed away, probably going to her room to dry-clean it.
"Thank you for everything." Ethan bowed his head slightly, causing me to stop and watch him from my side. I was appalled to see him being modest because I know Ethan's haughty. The old man waved his hand in dismissal, motioning it's no big deal.
"It's okay, you can call me Nato," he exclaimed, then turned his back on us.
"Charm will help you move into another room. Take this as my acknowledgment." then he went outside the cabin, and I didn't know what he would do and how his way of treatment suddenly changed.
I felt Ethan's hands on my shoulder, causing me to look at him in his eyes. He was eyeing me intimately, but I did know he wanted to know the details of my nightmare. He's just waiting for the right time for me to explain.
"I hope you will feel better after we move you to a different room."
I nodded and didn't say anything. I broke contact with him when Charm suddenly appeared. She smiled when she stopped by my side, offering her hand to help me stand up.
"I took care of some of my things. Sorry to keep you waiting. My room was a mess, and it's not that pleasant-looking like in the movies or series since you know we live in a cabin only."
"It's okay," I told her, then forced out a smile to look at her even if my stomach felt malaise.
Both Ethan and her took the side to help me. I can actually walk, but I don't know why they need to do this. However, the thought made me flattered, so I let them. When we reached the door of her room, she opened it and then went inside.
I couldn't help but roam my eyes around the area, observing. It's not that small, but it's also not that spacious. It's actually unadorned looking. I heard Charm fake a coughed, causing me to look at her. She smiled and then offered her bed.
"You can rest here, Natasha. Let me get you something." then she closed the door behind, leaving us both.
"Don't you find it peculiar?" I suddenly said, and I knew Ethan was listening to me because he shot me a sideways glance.
"They suddenly become so..."
"Nice?" Ethan finished my sentence.
"Yeah, like Nato was annoyed at first. Why the sudden change of heart within hours?" I asked, perplexed. Ethan was quiet and didn't say anything, but he gritted his jaw.
"I also had a dream, too, with them." Ethan suddenly exclaimed. He gradually looks in my eye.
"Something about Charm killing us."
