Chapter 39: Chapter 39
Michael sat at the cafe drinking a cup of coffee and browsing through his phone. He had made this his hobby since Brenda stood him up, he has decided not to call her again as it is obviously screwing him up and she have also stopped calling him.
He lifted his head from his phone for a moment when he heard someone laugh and the voice sounded just like Brenda’s, that's when he saw her holding hands with a guy a little older than he is, walking in from the front door towards a table.
He quickly raised his right hand to hide his face from being seen by her. On a second thought, he pulled his hand away.
“Why should I hide from her, am not the one who left, she did and besides we weren't even dating?” He thought and shrugged his shoulders, then continued sipping his coffee and browsing through his phone.
He was amazed at his total reluctance of the fact that she is present there with another guy, it was as if she never even existed. He was marveled at his reaction because it had felt like he would not be able to forget her completely which why he developed this new habit of sitting out in a café in the first place and seeing that he was not bordered after seeing Brenda was a surprise to him.
That's when he remembered something George had said to him, “truly, it was his dick screwing with his head.” He chuckled at the thought.
He lifted his head again to glance at the direction of the table where Brenda is seated only to see Brenda standing in front of him.
“Hello Michael.” Brenda said, a corner of her lips curved with a smile. She had seen Michael after she came in and felt the need to speak to him.
“Hello you.” Michael replied, a little surprised to see her standing in front of him when she had come here with a date.
“May I sit?” she asked looking at him the way she used to when they were still together but surprising too, Michael did not seem to feel a thing and she could not help but noticed.
“Sure.” Michael replied after a brief thought. “What are you doing here? I mean… where is your date?” Michael asked since those were the words that came to his mind, glancing at her table and then back to her.
“Um, his gone and he is not my date.” Brenda answered, a little surprised that he had already seen her before and did nothing.
“Did you see when I walked in?” she asked after a short pause looking surprised also at his composure, she least expected him to act this calm given how he had called and texted her before.
“Yes.” He answered leaning back on his chair, his gaze fixed on her, not knowing what to make of her coming to speak to him like this after she had made it clear that she does not want to speak to or see him again by not receiving or returning his calls of text messages.
He could see how surprised she looked too that he had seen her when she walked in the café and guessed what she had expected him to do. “What should I have done? You obviously did not want to see me and besides you made it clear from the beginning that we are just friends with benefits.” He added, recalling now what she had told him before and realized that he was being a fool by expecting something out of their relationship. He picked up his cup and then sipped his coffee, his gaze still on her.
“You seemed not to be affected at all after seeing me walk in here with a guy.” She said looking at him critically, trying to analyze his facial expression, as she wanted to know if he was pretending just now, recalling how he had been all over her when they were together.
“Affected by what?” he asked scrutinizing her now and getting a little angry. She wanted him to be affected by her presence, he thought.
“We haven't seen each other in weeks, or are you not affected by that?” Brenda asked, still gazing at him intensively, and baffled at his relaxed state, wondering if he really did not feel a thing as she is the first woman to do it to him, she had expected a different reaction from him.
“No.” Michael said giving her a brief stare as it was obvious to him what she was thinking about, then looked away from her, his eyes focused outside the cafe as if something has caught his attention.
“Well don't you miss me?” she asked after a short silence, seeing that his attention was somewhere else, she had expected this guy to fall for her like other guys she had been with do, she also expects that he would fall hard for her since she was his first.
“What do you want from me Brenda?” he asked fixing his eyes on hers on hearing her question, “You suddenly stopped seeing me for a reason best known to you and here you are asking if I miss you or not? Well news flash, I don't.” Michael replied getting a little irritated by her presence.
Brenda was shocked by his reaction, she has been used to men chasing after her whenever she stops seeing them, in fact she enjoyed it but this one is proven different despite the fact that she is the first woman he had sex with.
Ever since she was betrayed by a guy she once loved, she made it her hobby to toll with the feeling of other guys. She had expected Michael to be head over heels for her and had expected him to beg or feel angry after seeing her here with a guy.
She looked at him skeptically then said “can we go to your apartment?” she asked in a calm romantic manner, knowing how this affected Michael before, and he never got to resist her when she spoke like this. She suddenly felt the urge to have sex with him and hoped that he would jump at the offer, her gaze fixed on Michael who peered back at her wondering if he heard her correctly just now…
