Chapter 58: Chapter 58
The night was darker than any ink stain, without an ounce of moonshine and any warmth of stars it looked like a cloak of oppression had descended upon the earth.
Kharsan sent Orlando away without any regrets but when the cottage door was slowly opened there was a woman who was in shock as she clutched her dress tightly, looking down at the floor as tears dribbled down her face. Kharsan felt his breathing get shallow as his fingers trembled, why was she up at such a moment, did she hear it all?
"Baby listen to me-"
"Do you hate me for ruining your life?" glittering irses that looked up were beautiful but the gut-wrenching sadness that reflected in them was unfathomable.
"Rue don't ever say that-"
"Kharsan I have loved you forever." Rue could not meet lush emerald eyes that warmed up to her like a liquid whirlpool in absolute shame.
Was she talking about their past?
When Kharsan heard the female he adored his heart thumped filled with hope again.
"Do you..do you remember your past baby?" He came up to her with his arms around her shoulders, happiness, and joy reflecting as he asked her, barely hiding his excitement. Over the past few years he had called so many doctors from all over the world to diagnose her yet all of them just told him that there was nothing wrong with Rue except her own mind that was in denial.
She could not be treated of her panic attacks and seizures with just medication thus he married her hurriedly and brought her here where she could relax and let go of her demons.
Did it work?"
"I have known for quite some time." Hands holding her gently gradually tightened.
"Known? Since when babylove, tell me?"
"Before we were married." The face that was lightened with smiles gradually cooled down as Kharsan's hold on Rue loosened.
"I recalled it little by little since I first saw you at Davion's office." When azures at that moment clashed with emeralds they had so many secrets and emotions swirling in them that Kharsan did not know what to make of her words and was stumped in a sense where he could only listen.
"W-When brother told me that it was you that night, I had already gained all of my previous memories back. But I did not wish to let you go anymore....I just, I wanted to keep you to myself."
So many lies
With those innocent lips, she told him beautiful lies. While he was praying to have her health restored she was thinking of him as a fool.
"Why?" Just a single syllable and nothing else was there which he could say anymore.
"Why Rue?" Rue held the masculine hand as if afraid that he would disappear and clutched it tightly.
"I was jealous of you...Since childhood my identity was always Kharsan's bride, it wasn't Rue...you were a Villar while I had to prove to be worthy of the honor to be one. We were raised with you always being away from home and I being raised as the princess...t-they said..they said that..since I was already raised as the princess there was no need for us to marry anymore..
I wanted to prove that I was good, do everything and anything to bring honor to father. After regaining my memories I realized that Seir was fine and I was restored to my position as a Sylvester, the very cause of enmity was dead and us...what about us?
Why would Villars agree to this marriage anymore, they don't need to win over me or Davion but then I had already received the marriage proposal.
I knew it had to be you, not them who orchestrated this and they would never let it happen but- but Kharsan but you are mine!"
So ugly
A complete mess
She wanted to tell him the truth earlier,
But somewhere in some corner of her heart, she wished for him to choose.
Rue or Villar
And he chose today
Her
She was so ashamed to be so blinded in her obsession that she made his life that he had gathered with sweet and blood crumble for her.
"How did it felt making a fool out of me Rue?"
"I-I just didn't-"
"Did you think I will marry someone else?" When Rue looked down it almost confirmed the answer.
The mafia was strengthened with blood and sacrifice, if every single heir out there chose love over his duty then what would happen to the people following them? Regional gang wars would break out and their followers would perish. Mikhail and Diana were married by law to bring together two clans, Rue's birth parents were married that way.
Seir and Davion had to go separate ways to consolidate their regime.
Love stories did not exist in mafia dynasty and Rue and Kharsan did not had a love story to begin with. It was long arranged for them to get together even if they hated one another, ofcouse when the purpose to get together disappears then their relation must also be broken with them going separate ways.
Rue would be married with Sylvester's subsidiary branch and thus strengthening loyalty to Davion while Kharsan would get married within his own world to bring more power.
There was no 'them' here.
"I won't go." Rue who was thinking deeply was startled by those words and looked up to see Kharsan with teary eyes that were soon soothed by his thumbs gently swiping over the rims of her eyes.
It meant many things.
To be with Rue he won't take up the throne
"Rue, don't ever lie to me again, we have to live a long life together so don't play with my emotions anymore." And when he said that the female threw herself to the male and sobbed with ugly tears dribbling down her face. Finally she was with him, she was sorry to take over his life and turn it completely upside down.
She was sorry to take him away from his one ambition and she was sad to not let him go.
A/N: So the serious part of the book is over with this chapter, from now onwards we would have fluff majorly. Please don't expect an Ares or Rose, I am trying to depict some reality here which I usually throw to wind.
