Chapter 73: Chapter 73

In a quiet café across the hospital, Alpha Jax and his mother-in-law sat facing each other. Sarah was waiting for Jax to spill the truth out but it seems he has no intention to do that.

He doesn't know how to begin and he doesn't want his in-law to misunderstand him just like Aurora did.

He sat still, staring down the table. He has never been this nervous before in his life.

Sarah took a deep breath to calm her emotions before she touched Jax's hands which was obviously still shaking.

"You are not at fault, Jax. I never blamed you. In fact, I told my daughter to let go of all grievances but it seems she is still adamant", Sarah said as a tear threatened to fall out of her eyes.

She thought Aurora was already in love with her mate and will stop, if not for anything but for the fact that she's carrying his baby but it seems she never did.

Alpha Jax looked up in surprise at the words of Aurora's mother. She knew? Is she talking about the assassination of her husband?

He abruptly sat up, his eyes focused on Sarah's.

"You knew I assassinated your husband?", Alpha Jax asked to be sure.

"No. But I knew he wasn't innocent. I only got to know it was you not too long ago. I tried to dissuade Aurora but it all fell on deaf ears. I know you had to do what you had to do", Sarah said looking down.

She hates to talk about her husband's atrocities. She remembered the day she met Aurora's father, he had come to the human world to obtain an important science degree. They met at her graduation ceremony.

He was a striking handsome man who didn't look a bit like a science nerd. Rather he looked dashing…and tempting. All the girls drool around him but he had his eyes only on her. Though she felt uncomfortable being stared at but she could not deny the tingling she felt anytime their eyes met.

Sarah had to rush to the bathroom to wash her face which had turn red from embarrassment. On her way out of the bathroom, she was drawn to a hidden spot by a strong arm. Before she could see who it was clearly, she heard him whispered something seductively.

Mate.

Being a human, Sarah was confused and her first instinct was to get away from this freak but a kiss landed on her lips which rendered her helpless. From that day onwards, she became his girlfriend and they later got married a month later.

Robert wasn't like this when they newly got married. He was a honest man working with Alpha Jax's father, Jack, in the laboratory.

Robert was very intelligent and an efficient lab professor. Aurora got her intelligence from him.

Sarah who wasn't used to the life in the Pack begged him to move to the human world. After sometime, they indeed moved to her world after the death of Alpha Jack.

After living in the human world for years, Sarah guessed Robert became greedy and that's when he started selling the Pack's secret to other packs. He also sold chemicals exclusively for werewolves to humans, making them powerful but also destructive.

It took Alpha Jax three years to fully eradicate every human infected with the chemicals.

Sarah began to notice her husband's weird behavior and excessive wealth but when she question him, he always brushes it off. But not until she saw a file in the study, by mistake.

There were several documents containing all the atrocities he had been involved in. There were also warnings from the Blood Mafias on their intended visit to him if he still continue with his crimes. Those warnings were dating within every two months for the past six months.

Sarah was so annoyed that she wanted to break off their marriage but then she thought about her two children. They loved and adored their father too much.

She decided to swallow it and approach him when he comes back later in the night. But she never knew the blood mafias would come for him that night.

Robert was assassinated and Aurora couldn't forget the sight of her father laying in his own pool of blood.

Two weeks before his death, Aurora had a dream about him being murdered and told everyone but Robert brushed it off and told her it was just a dream.

I tried all I could to tell him to desist from anything that will bring harm to him but he never listened to me.

He died and Aurora vowed to revenge his death without knowing the cause.

All she knew was her good and innocent father was murdered by the blood Mafias and she would do all she could to have them all wiped off.

In order to quel Aurora's taste for revenge, she insisted they move to the Pack so Aurora could find a man that would make her forget about her father.

Luckily, she did something and she used it as a leverage to get her away from the human world.

What Sarah never expected was for Aurora to have Jax as her mate. She was initially happy that her daughter seemed to be moving on until she found out Jax was the leader of the dreaded mafias.

She knew Aurora would do all she can to get revenge for her father. But she didn't know she would still want to carry on her plans even after she told her not to.

"Did you tell her?", Alpha Jax asked Aurora's mother. But the answer was obvious if not, Aurora won't be insisting on blaming him.

"I…I…I just couldn't. I wanted to preserve the image of her father in her heart. Robert was a good father to his child and I just couldn't bring myself to damage the image she had of him. I mean the image of a good and Caring father.", Sarah said in remorse.

"Even at the detriment of hurting me which might lead to her death? Are you preserving the image of her father or the image of your husband?", Alpha Jax asked trying to control his emotions which was threatening to burst out.

"I…Jax, I am really sorry. Let's just say I was selfish at first but when I found out you were the leader of the mafias, I couldn't take it anymore. I tried to dissuade her but she was adamant", Sarah bowed her head as she sobbed.

"Tell me, how did you and Aurora got to know my identity? It was top secret and I can't remember having a traitor in my Pack", Alpha Jax asked.

"Aurora found out in your study. She saw a file which carried her father's assassination permit by you. I think that's when she started planning her revenge on you", Aurora's mother said.

"But if she had read the file, she would see her father's crimes and the reason I ordered his execution. Did she hate me so much that she doesn't trust my decision?," Alpha Jax asked painfully.

"Jax, you need to understand Aurora. She had been looking for her father's murderers for long and the least person she expected to be responsible was the leader of her pack… her mate. I guess she was too hurt and angry to continue", Aurora's mother tried to defend her daughter.

"She didn't even hear my side of the story before she took me to the firing squad! I loved and trusted her but she kept a secret to kill me all these while?," Alpha Jax said as he rose up from his chair. He was trying his best to control his emotions. He didn't want to hurt anyone.

Aurora's mother grabbed his hands as she tried to plead with him but he removed her hands.

He didn't want to hurt anyone but the pain in his heart was unbearable. He had to leave…now.

Alpha Jax turned to look at the tear faced woman who was sobbing softly. It wasn't anyone's fault but how could they hide all these without hearing from him?

He growled loudly as he tried to walk away from Aurora's mother.

But she held him tighter as she pleaded," Aurora is still at the hospital. She and the baby need you".

"You can't leave her now otherwise she will think you are as cruel as she predicted. "You need to go back and explain things to her Jax. She's still in the dark so don't blame her for thinking you killed her father without any reason.

"She doesn't fucking need me or else she won't be planning to kill me!", He growled loudly as every werewolf within hearing range fell down in pain.

Alpha Jax knew he was hurting his people. He had to leave before he did something he would regret. He yanked his leg off Aurora's mother as he headed straight to the forest.

He needed to think clearly. He needed some time to himself. He tore his clothes off as he changed into his wolf. They were hurting at their mate's betrayal.

Alpha Jax kept running deeper into the forest. His thoughts were messed up by Aurora's betrayal. He refused to believe Aurora would kill him but the look in her eyes and the words she uttered to him kept replaying in his memories.

"Comprehensive information? Really? Ahhh! Then you must be aware that the Mr Robert Patterson that was murdered by your men brutally some years back had a family! He had a daughter who is your mate and presently carrying your child!"

Aurora's angry voice kept ringing in his head. He remembered her angry and viscous look when she cursed him. She was ready to kill him…

"Don't you fucking touch me! I already hate myself for letting you touch me. Though I have started loving you but I wished I don't…I wish I could only hate you…but I can't stop loving you no matter how hard I tried"

"You fucking psycho! You killed my father! You took the only man who was by my side!"

"Shut the fuck up Jax! You fucking killed my father! I can't take it that I am carrying the child of my father's killer"

"I fucking hate you… why Jax?"

Alpha Jax growled loudly in his Alpha tone as the trees around started swaying vigorously. He slumped to the ground as he changed back into his human form in pain as Aurora's words came rushing in.

"Arrrrrrrgh!!!!! Why did you give me a mate that would torment me? I asked for a mate who would love me! Why Aurora? I love you so much! Why didn't you trust me? Did you ever loved me?", Alpha Jax kept asking himself as tears flowed freely down his face.

"Jax, don't do same mistake she did. Speak to her…", Ares tried to say before Alpha Jax cuts him off.

"Shut the fuck up, Ares! I don't need your advice! Leave me the hell alone", He flared up.

He wasn't ready to face her yet. How could he face her when she still hated him and how do he avoid his anger if he was to face her. He needed some time alone, sometime to think all of these going on.

Aurora's mother, Sarah, gathered herself together as she wiped her tears off. She knew she had to settle the issue between these two couples before it escalated further.

Right from the day Aurora told her Jax was the leader of the dreaded mafia gang, she had wanted to come clean with her daughter but she still had the hope that maybe Aurora might just forget about the past. She seems to forget that hatred bores deep into the soul.

Now her daughter and her mate have to suffer for her selfishness. Indeed, she was selfish. If she hadn't protected the image of her husband, if she had told Aurora who her father was, if she had told her that her father wasn't what she thought he was then all of these wouldn't be happening.

She went back to the hospital ward where Aurora was lying down. She was still fast asleep. Sarah looked at her daughter and felt sorry for hiding her father's true colors from her.

Sarah knew she was partly to blame for whatever Aurora is passing through now. If only she had explained everything to Aurora from the day her father died. Perhaps, she won't have these grudges in her mind.

Perhaps, Aurora would be living peacefully and lovingly with her mate, Alpha Jax. Sarah blamed herself but she didn't want her daughters growing up to hate their father. She wanted the perfect image he had painted in their hearts to remain the same. But unfortunately, the heavens wanted it otherwise.

Now, Sarah's only hope is for Alpha Jax to forgive her daughter and understand her point of view too. She needs to talk to her daughter immediately. She was fed up with Aurora's insistence on vengeance.

Sarah held the documents tightly in her hands as she waited patiently for Aurora to wake up. They need to have a long talk. Aurora has to save her relationship with Alpha Jax. Afterall, he was innocent of the allegations.

Sarah was so deep in thought and feeling tired that she dozed off on the couch holding tightly to the documents in her hands.

After an hour, Aurora opened her eyes and tried to get up. She felt weak and thirsty. She opened her mouth but it sounded croaked.

"Water…water…", she said faintly.

Aurora tried to stand up again and this time she was able to. She saw the jug of water on the table close to her bed. She managed to pour water for herself as her throat was dry. She seemed to forget where she was.

Aurora looked around and saw she was at the hospital but how did she get here? Her hands went to her stomach subconsciously. Was her baby hurt? Then she remembered having an intense argument with Jax and then everything around her went blank.

When Aurora remembered the reason for her quarrel with Jax, she became riled up in anger again. She held the glass in her hands so tightly that it shattered into pieces. The sound of the broken glass woke Aurora's mother up as she screamed at the sight of her daughter's bleeding hands.

"Aurora! Are you crazy? Do you enjoy hurting yourself?", Sarah shouted as she quickly got up from the couch.

Sarah grabbed Aurora's hands as she was about to ring the emergency bell to call on the attending nurse. Aurora stopped her.

"There is no need for a nurse, mother. Did you forget I am a werewolf? I heal easily but this mother…I can't seem to heal from it. It hurts so much", Aurora said without emotion as she pointed at her heart. Tears trickling down her cheek.
