Chapter 177: Chapter 177
Luna Point of view
Even though I was still fearful of what the board of directors would say, I had the guts because I knew I was doing this for Adonis and not for myself. For when he returned, and he learned I hadn't abandoned the firm for which he had worked so diligently. He will not be sorry for giving me what he toiled for.
As I approached the door, I took a big breath, knowing Stefany was behind me. I won't have a problem since I know she won't let me down, and with Adonis where he is now, I'm confident he has no intention of abandoning me.
He gave me this because he believes I can make it.
As soon as I opened the door, all of them locked their eyes on me. My heart is also racing since this is the first time I'll be confronted by professionals. Perhaps they'll decide to hotseat me later. I wish Mark had informed me about today so I could practice my lines. But what more can I do; I'm already here, and what occurred was unavoidable.
I walked to the front, to the very end of the table, and saw the guys clutching a piece of paper. I saw around eleven males and two ladies. They all stare at me almost as though they are judging me. I expected this is how they want to make an impression on me, but I can't help but think they really hold their trust in me.
I feigned a cough in order to focus their attention on what I was about to say, even though it was unnecessary since their gazes were already fixed on me. I sat in the chair that used to belong to Adonis.
"I'm sure you're well aware of what happened to Adonis, and I'm certain you're anticipating my arrival as well. If not, you've most likely heard about me through my employees—" When a lady spoke across from me but farther away, I didn't complete what I was intending to say. I believe she is the one who has the most shares in this corporation.
"That is not what I expected you to say; we are unconcerned if Adonis dies, departs, or travels wherever on the continent. All we want is an understanding of your talents. We don't have time to lament since our livelihood is contingent on the company's demise. " She said gravely.
"Pardon me, Miss?"
"Reyes."
"I apologize, Miss Reyes. Nobody wants to stop you from reclaiming your money. Do you believe that after you leave this firm, you will be able to earn the same amount as you do now? I appreciate your skepticism. I'm not going to guarantee you any fancy words either, but I can assure you of one thing." I said emphatically. "I'm certain that MY company will safeguard your funds." To her, I stress the words. "Shouldn't you first offer your condolences? Are you afraid of losing money to this firm since you know it is the only one that will run your money, not crawl after it? Do you want to just sit and wait for the dollars to reach your bank account? What a rapacious individual."
She blushed to my litany.
I had no qualms about telling her. After a week of business reading, I've learned that operating a firm is not simple; you just have to be prepared for risk and possibility. Because it is conceivable that the issue with which you are now grappling may vanish unexpectedly, leaving you with no choice but to restart.
I took note of the others' quiet. I couldn't take it any longer and followed and inquired of the others.
"Do you still want the refund of your shares? Notify me immediately while my secretary is still present so that we may complete the money transfer."
They may cast doubt on me all they want, but I am self-assured. If anybody remains, we would want to express our gratitude.
"I want to continue; I believe in Adonis." A man voiced out that I think he was just the same age as Adonis.
"What are you pointing at, Mr. Lorenzo?" The elderly gentleman now asked.
"I mean, before coming here, I had faith in Mr Salander's talents. Therefore, I'm confident he would trust this lady if he handed her the firm. That is what I intend to undertake." He grinned at me, and I couldn't help but reciprocate. And I felt rather relieved.
"I shall not disappoint you, Mr Lorenzo." I turned to Stefany, who was already beaming at me, as if she hadn't anticipated my straightforward acquisition of a shareholder.
When you demonstrate weakness, people will communicate that they have doubts about your competence, therefore I make a point of displaying that I am not disturbed. I returned my gaze to Miss Reyes and arched an eyebrow at her. I don't care if you call me unprofessional.
"I agree." Another lady spoke, and with each syllable, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. My chest is depleted of iron and stones. I couldn't help but cheer at what was occurring, particularly when they continued to raise their hands and declare their intention to remain.
"You have a point." The last gentleman spoke. We've all gazed at Miss Reyes and seem to be awaiting her approval. I, too, am waiting. I cannot dispute that she did really lose a great deal to us.
"I intend to stay."
I almost leapt for delight when I heard her voice concur. My chest was entirely free of weight. This is all I'm waiting for in order to take a deep breath and earn their confidence.
~~~~~~~
They exited the room after our discussion, leaving me reclined in my seat and leaning on my back. My knees were weaker as a result of what happened. That was not what I imagined.
"Congratulations, Miss Luna." Stefany.
I just lifted my head and smiled at her.
