Chapter 99: Chapter 99

Agatha’s POV

I returned to Lanceil's condo to gather my belongings while he was away.

'I'm not sure how I'll feel if I run into him again.'

With a heavy suitcase, I packed up all my stuff. After finishing, I sat on the bed and took in the sight of the room I had called home for months.

It used to feel strange, but now it made me sad to leave. I knew from the start that one day I would have to move on. When Lanceil and I shared our feelings, I had hoped to stay with him forever.

But those hopes crumbled like dust in the wind. There was no way to salvage his trust and love.

Dragging my luggage, I left the room. And as soon as I stepped outside, I saw someone unexpected.

We both stood there, frozen in disbelief, gazing at each other like we had just seen a ghost.

"I..." Vincent whispered. "I've actually met Brett before."

I expected him to complain about me not coming to meet him instead, but I knew Brett had a stronger reason to see him.

"My brother told me you were coming back to collect your things. That's why I'm here," he added.

"Yeah, I'll leave now," I said before starting to walk away. However...

"Don't you want to escape?" His voice, deep and hushed, reached my ears and made me pause. "I can take you to a place far away, where no one can find or harm you. I can do that."

I glanced back and our eyes met, his filled with sadness. Then he spoke again.

"I can offer you everything, Agatha. So come with me."

I tightened my fists and took a deep breath. A father's mistakes shouldn't define the son. But... ignorance isn't always bliss.

"Your way of dealing with this issue is so weak," I remarked. "You always want to run away. Do you really believe that running will solve everything?"

I shook my head, answering my own question.

"I won't run," I declared. "I will face everything until the end."

Even if it means Lanceil and I become enemies standing on opposite sides.

Third Person’s POV

Once Mikhail has resolved everything, his first priority will be seeking forgiveness from Agatha. He will humbly kneel before her, pleading and shedding tears. However, his plea for forgiveness does not imply that he expects her to return to his side.

Mikhail understands that this is an impossible feat.

He used to be the source of light in Agatha's life, but now he has become a mere shadow, only present when she is at her brightest. True happiness can only be found when he is apart from her. Therefore, no matter how deeply he loves her, he will never utter those words again.

He doesn't deserve it, he thought.

His dad killed her father and tried to kill her too, and now he's playing the same role.

In all the stories she's read, characters with this kind of role always end up with a tragic fate. If she's headed down the same path, she might just embrace it willingly.

Mikhail let out a sigh as he made his way into his room. Ever since his dad discovered his knowledge of their plan, he had been confined to this space. Nevertheless, he held onto the belief that his encounter with Lanceil Grim wouldn't be in vain.

He hoped that Lanceil would make the right choice, just like he did.

"Please, let it happen," he silently prayed to himself.

Taking a seat on the bed, he anxiously glanced at the clock. The company meeting was about to begin, and he had to wait until it was over.

"Do we really have to guard the young master?" one of the guards questioned.

Mikhail turned his attention towards the door of his room. His father had assigned two men to keep watch over him.

With a frown, Mikhail cautiously approached the door and pressed his ear against it, trying to catch any additional information.

"We had no choice. Sir Jake made it clear that we couldn't let him get away."

"Oh yeah, he's the ex-boyfriend of that girl, right? I can understand why he's caught in the middle of their parents' conflict, just like Romeo."

"That's unfortunate."

"But I have to admit, I'm really scared about this."

"What are you scared of?"

"Sir Jake wants us to get the girl immediately, even if it means using force. Doesn't that sound like he's asking us to kill her?"

Mikhail's eyes widened.

"Hey, be careful what you say! If someone overhears you... they might think that..."

"Why? It's the truth. I took this job because of the high pay, but if it involves killing someone, that's a whole different story. Remember when Jules was asked to tamper with the brake fluid of that... what was his name again? The guy who got arrested for tax evasion. Even though the task was just to tamper with the brake fluid, it's essentially asking you to kill him. And what happened to Jules when the guy died?"

“Jules also died the next morning.”

“This is really suspicious. I’ll definitely give my resignation letter to…”

BAM!

The two guards abruptly ceased their conversation upon hearing a loud thud. Worried that it originated from Mikhail's room, they swiftly unlocked the door.

Without wasting a moment, they were greeted by the sight of an open window.

"Oh no!"

They hurriedly rushed towards the window to catch a glimpse. And there they witnessed Mikhail, hobbling towards the car after leaping from the second floor.

"GATHER EVERYONE! THE YOUNGMASTER IS ESCAPING!"
