Chapter 21: Chapter 21
Lanceil chose the “Jolly Orphanage” to sponsor this year. He went there to talk to Mr. Jasfer, the head of the orphanage. But when he visited the place, he was surprised to see his maid.
Agatha was spending her day off playing with the kids.
Lanceil was so surprised that he went to her and asked her the question.
“Agatha. What are you doing here?”
“S-Sir,” Agatha stuttered.
Agatha couldn’t answer Lanceil’s question. And Lanceil had no time to wait.
“Sir, we need to go. You have a meeting with Mr. Cardigo,” Secretary Dwight reminded Lanceil.
Lanceil must not waste time. He had no choice but to leave Agatha after telling her, “Let’s talk about this later.”
However, Lanceil couldn’t go home that day because he slept in the hotel after his meeting. Then, he played golf with investors on Sunday.
Today, Monday, he went back to his office and finished paperwork for their corporation’s inauguration event.
To find out why Agatha was in the orphanage, Lanceil asked Secretary Dwight to gather information about his maid.
“Miss Agatha volunteered in the orphanage,” Dwight reported.
Sitting in front of his desk, Lanceil knitted his brows.
Agatha was busy enough to work as a maid and to study in the review center at night. But did she have time to volunteer in the orphanage?
‘Is she avoiding me?’ Lanceil worried.
If it was because of him, he would like to beat himself. He didn’t mean to scare Agatha the night when he almost kissed her. It was out of impulse, which he regretted later on.
“Haa,” Lanceil sighed, massaging his forehead.
He loosened his necktie, leaned on the office chair, and looked at his secretary.
“Is that all?” Lanceil inquired.
“I asked Mr. Jasfer about Miss Agatha. But all he said is that Agatha loves to volunteer and help the children. She has been volunteering for many years.”
Lanceil felt relief after hearing that.
‘So, it wasn’t because she’s avoiding me. It is because she loves helping the orphans.’
“She is… kind,” Lanceil whispered while thinking of his maid.
Lanceil has no interest in Agatha at the beginning. He couldn’t even remember her name.
But as time passed by, Lanceil’s eyes followed the lady. It was because Agatha resembles Lanceil’s dead wife.
And now, he realized that it wasn’t just Olive’s appearance that Agatha resembles, but her kind heart too.
‘Olive loves to help orphans too,’ Lanceil thought, tightening his clutch around his pen.
Dwight looked at his boss’s hand and back to Lanceil’s problematic expression.
“Sir, you don’t have a remaining schedule today,” Dwight said.
It was his other way to say that Dwight could go home and meet Agatha if he was still curious about her.
Lanceil stood up and picked up his suit.
“Then, I will go home,” Lanceil said.
He would not admit it. But he was excited to meet Agatha.
It was budding feelings that started with curiosity. Lanceil had no idea that he would regret starting this feeling in the end.
Lanceil arrived earlier than usual. When he arrived, he saw Agatha cleaning around the living room.
She was wearing earphones and singing while sweeping with a broom.
“L is for the way you look at me~” she sang energetically. “O is for the only one I see~”
Lanceil leaned on the wall, crossed his arms and continued watching Agatha’s small concert. He didn’t notice that he was already smiling while staring at her.
“V is very very, extraordinary, E is even more than anyone that you adore can, Love is…”
She bent down to sweep the dust under the sofa. As soon as she bent, Lanceil’s eyes went to her ass.
Agatha’s blue panty was showing.
Lanceil’s eyes widened. He froze.
This is the second time he saw her underwear!
The first made him feel embarrassed. But the second…
‘Shit,’ Lanceil cursed when he looked down and figured out that he got a blue b*ll.
“Love is not a game for t…”
Agatha turned around and when she saw her boss, she dropped the broom.
Thud.
Agatha doesn’t usually sing like this while cleaning. She just wanted to divert her mind and so she listened to songs with earphones. But in the process, she got engrossed with it and played along.
‘But my boss saw me dancing like an idiot.’
Agatha gulped. She thought that seducing Lanceil with her body and sexiness would never happen.
Yet, she had no idea that she had succeeded already.
Because now, Lanceil wasn’t thinking about her singing and dancing, but the blue thing he saw underneath her skirt.
“S-Sir, you’re here,” Agatha said.
Lanceil took a deep breath, cleared his throat, and looked away.
Turning red, Agatha added, “You are early today, S-Sir.”
“Y-Yeah. Because I am hungry,” Lanceil gave an excuse.
“I haven’t cooked dinner. But wait a minute. I will cook right away.”
“I will just order pizza. Let’s eat that.”
“Pizza?”
Agatha was shocked. Brett told her that Lanceil hates delivery foods.
“Wait for the pizza. I’ll go take a bath and eat dinner with you,” Lanceil said before he walked inside his room.
Agatha bit her lower lip. ‘Why is he acting like that all of a sudden?’
Lanceil wanted to order pizza because he doesn’t want Agatha to tire herself. But Agatha thought that her boss would interrogate her.
“I asked Mr. Jasfer to hide my history. But Lanceil will still ask me, won’t he?” Agatha worried.
After a while, Lanceil finished his bath, and the pizza order arrived.
Agatha drooled at the delicious smell of the pepperoni pizza. She found herself sitting on the couch next to Lanceil. She was so intoxicated by the food, rather than the fact that she was sitting close to her boss, A.K.A, her crush.
“Let’s eat,” Lanceil suggested.
“Yes.”
Agatha raised her hand to reach a slice, but stopped and asked, “Will Sir Vincent come home and eat dinner?”
Lanceil grabbed a slice.
“No. He’s playing outside so he won’t eat his dinner here.”
Agatha celebrated inwardly when she heard that. If that’s the case, they don’t need to leave some for Vincent. Because she was so sure she could eat all of these by herself.
“Thank you for the food,” she showed her gratitude before she happily grabbed a slice.
Both took a bite at the same time. One hummed, and the other stayed nonchalantly while chewing food that he rarely eats. They quietly filled their stomachs until they finished half of the round pizza.
As Lanceil took a bite at his third pizza, he stared at the woman who doesn’t have the sign of stopping on shoving the food in her mouth.
“Miss Agatha.”
Agatha wiped her mouth and looked at him.
“Wasn’t it hard?”
“…”
“Working as a maid and then volunteering in the orphanage every weekend. Wasn’t that hard?”
Agatha put the pizza down. ‘He investigated me as expected,’ she thought.
Brett promised Agatha that he would erase her family histories so that Lanceil would not find anything about her father’s debts and the loan shark. So, what Lanceil knows is that she was an orphan who works hard to survive.
‘That’s not a lie. He just doesn’t know that I have a hidden purpose for approaching him,’ she added inside her head.
Agatha fidgeted her fingers around the pizza she was holding, and answered, “It was hard. But I found happiness helping orphans like me.”
‘Maybe, playing like an angel would help to get his heart,’ Agatha said to herself.
“I don’t have a family. Seeing the kids made me feel like I still have one,” Agatha said as she sighed.
She peeked at Lanceil, wondering if this touched Lanceil’s heart.
But the cold Lanceil had a blank expression, which was hard to read.
‘He’s not an easy foe,’ she complained.
“H-How about you, Sir? Why were you in the orphanage?”
“I chose that orphanage to support. I heard that they need money to continue looking for the kids. Or else, they might close it.”
Agatha didn’t hear that from Jasfer.
‘Jasfer didn’t tell this to me because he knew my situation,’ Agatha thought, biting her lower lip.
She could not imagine seeing the kids live in the street if the orphanage disappeared. The corner of her eyes misted.
Agatha forgot acting and suddenly grabbed Lanceil’s hands.
“Thank you so much,” she said while on the verge of crying.
Lanceil twitched. He looked at her hands and back at her teary face.
“Thank you so much for helping the orphanage. Thank you, a lot, Sir.”
Lanceil clenched his fists. He promised that once he went back home, he would draw a clear line between him and his maid. He doesn’t want to confuse himself anymore.
But Agatha wasn’t helping.
Lanceil pulled his hands away from her with a reddened face.
It was then Agatha realized that she held her boss out of impulse. Then, her face went red too.
“S-Sorry for suddenly holding you, Sir,” she apologized, lowering her head.
Lanceil didn’t reply and stared at his hands.
It’s weird, he thought.
He hated when other women held him. But when it was Agatha, he felt comfortable.
“Don’t you have any relatives?” he asked.
Agatha looked back, wanting to make sure that she heard him right.
Right now, Lanceil wasn’t just asking her about the orphanage, but about her life too.
‘Isn’t this a sign that he’s getting interested in me?’
“I have relatives, Sir,” Agatha answered. “But they don’t want to take me in. It is hard to add another mouth in the house.”
“I see. So, you had no choice but to work for yourself,” Lanceil murmured, and his heart sank.
Yet he didn’t feel this because he pitied her. It’s more than a pity.
“Next week, I will go back to the orphanage,” Lanceil said. “Do you want to come with me? We can volunteer together.”
Agatha’s eyes widened.
She could not imagine that a cold guy like Lanceil would ask her to do that.
Actually, Lanceil didn’t know why he was doing this either, or why he wanted to know more about his maid.
He fell into a trap he made for himself.
Vincent, who was listening to them in secret at the entrance of the condo, knew that his older brother was falling for Agatha.
‘I need to warn my brother. I can’t let that lady control Lanceil,’ Vincent said to himself.
But because Vincent heard Agatha’s story, and he knew that she really likes Lanceil, he couldn’t do anything.
Perhaps Vincent fell into his own trap too.
