Chapter 101: Chapter 101

Third Person’s POV

Lanceil sat in the meeting hall, clutching the envelope that Mikhail had given him.

Today, the higher-ups were gathering to discuss the transfer of shares belonging to the late Mr. Samson. These shares had been kept a secret, hidden under a different name. However, upon discovering that the 46% share actually belonged to Mr. Samson, the panel decided to discuss who should inherit this significant ownership.

Mr. Samson had been accused of tax evasion and wrongly convicted of a crime he didn't commit. Fortunately, the court granted him parole to reopen the case, offering a chance for him to prove his innocence.

Who is supporting this reinvestigation?

Jake Dawson (Mikhail's father) and Ian Grim (Lanceil's father) were taken aback when they received this news. They had paid a hefty sum to prosecutors to handle the case, but it seemed that someone influential was protecting the chief prosecutor, rendering their efforts futile.

If the prosecution could prove Mr. Samson's innocence, it would not only help him regain his freedom but also benefit his company. But what about the shares he left behind?

The person who discovered the hidden shares has revealed Mr. Samson's last will. It states that he wanted to leave all of his shares to his daughter, Agatha.

If their greedy relatives were aware of this, they should have taken care of Agatha and not abandoned her on the street. However, for Jake and Ian, this presents an opportunity.

They eliminated their strongest competitor. And even if they managed to kill Agatha, they could take control of the company they both joined.

So they hurried with their plan. They needed to hide his daughter, or it would be even better to kill her, and then release a fake statement stating that if Mr. Samson's daughter died, the shares would be given to his closest friends, Jake and Ian.

However, what Ian and Jake overlooked were their own sons, who were not on their side.

"Now, let's begin discussing the transfer of Mr. Samson's shares," Ian initiated the meeting.

Jake smirked from his seat.

"As we all know, the shares under the name Leo actually belong to Mr. Samson. Therefore, he left a will stating that he would give his shares to his daughter, Ms. Agatha Samson. We have already contacted the girl."

Lanceil's expression darkened.

‘Who did they reach out to?’

Ian and Jake didn't bother informing Agatha about the situation. In fact, they were plotting to harm the child.

Lanceil's grip tightened on the paper. He was shocked to discover that his father was even more wicked than he had thought. Not only did they want to harm her, but they also planned to steal her inheritance.

“Unfortunately, the child is unwell,” Ian mentioned.

“She's very ill,” Jake chimed in, nodding. “It's like she's about to join her father soon.” He chuckled at the end of his statement.

Some joined in the laughter, but others didn't find it amusing. How could anyone joke about someone's life?

Lanceil felt his anger boiling inside him. If he had a gun right now, he would have shot Jake in the head!

“Luckily, the child left a will in case of any mishap,” Ian revealed. He held up the envelope containing Agatha's forged will. “This will indicate where she intended to allocate the shares.”

“Wait a sec," Lanceil interrupted.

All eyes turned to him as he rose from his seat.

"I need to see a medical certificate proving that Mr. Samson’s daughter is actually sick," he stated.

Ian's smile faded. He knew his son, Lanceil Grim, was an honest man. But he never expected him to stand in the way of his success.

Despite the shock, Ian and Jake had a plan ready.

"Here's the medical certificate for the child," Jake said, pretending to cough before handing it to Lanceil.

Lanceil took the envelope and inspected the contents.

Upon reading the certificate, it claimed that Agatha had stage four cancer with no chance of recovery. It seemed legitimate at first glance. That is until Lanceil spotted a glaring mistake they had made.

A small smirk formed on Lanceil's face as he displayed the certificate to the group and voiced his doubts.

"I don't think this is real."

All whispered in shock. Jake glanced at Ian, silently questioning what was going on with his son. Ian, clenching his jaw, shot a fierce look at Lanceil.

"What do you mean? We verified the information," Ian argued.

"That boy's blood type is AB, not O," Lanceil persisted. He turned the paper over and remarked, "and her height is 160cm, not 170cm. She's not tall, but rather, cute. Also, her eyes are light brown, not gray. It's clear that this is all made up."

A cacophony of noise filled the room.

Ian stared in disbelief. He could sense the rage and sense of betrayal bubbling up inside him. Above all, how did his son find out about this?

"Do you know anything about Mr. Samson's daughter?" Ian inquired.

Lanceil nodded. "Certainly. When everyone abandoned her, she worked for me as my maid."

Ian felt like collapsing. He braced himself against the long table, struggling to remain upright in front of everyone.

If Agatha had worked for Lanceil, he thought he would have heard about it from Maxine. But his assassin, Maxine, had not mentioned that the girl was actually Lanceil's maid.

Ian couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had been betrayed by those closest to him. Despite this, he still believed he had the upper hand.

"Wow," Ian exclaimed. "So, if that's the case, why didn't you bring her here? Or let us meet her?"

Lanceil tossed aside the fake medical certificate and held up the document Mikhail had given him. Ignoring his father's question, he stepped forward and opened the papers for everyone to see.

Jake and Ian's faces turned pale as they watched him. They had no idea what Lanceil was about to reveal.

"This is Mr. Samson's will for his daughter," Lanceil announced, nodding at his secretary.

With a signal, the will was displayed on the projector.

Everyone read the contents of the will.

Ian and Jake's eyes widened. They had disclosed the part of the will where Mr. Samson wanted to transfer his shares to his daughter, but they had conveniently left out the ending, which stated:

"If my daughter is unable to take ownership of the shares, then no one else is allowed to use them. Unless, she personally decides to give them to someone else."

Loud complaints echoed through the air. The will clearly stated that Agatha must personally choose who will receive the inheritance. In order for that to happen, she must be present at the meeting.

Ian and Jake were surprised by how Lanceil managed to get his hands on the real will. Jake's only suspect was his son, Mikhail.

‘That jerk!’ Jake cursed his son silently.

“That's why!” Ian exclaimed. “I have this will!” He held up another fake document. “The girl mentioned that she wanted to leave the shares to me and Mr. Dawson!”

“But what if it's a fake?” someone countered.

“Exactly. We need to bring his daughter here to uncover the truth!” another person chimed in.

Jake and Ian exchanged glances once more. They still had a chance to succeed, as long as they could eliminate the girl.

“Of course, we can bring her and…”

“Hypocrite,” Lanceil chuckled.

All eyes turned back to him.

After his laughter subsided, he looked at his father and Mr. Dawson with bloodshot eyes. “Taking her money isn't enough for you two.”

“W-What do you mean?”

Lanceil called out, "Father!" and then quickly corrected himself, "Mr. Grim! How could you claim that you were going to bring her after what you both..." He glanced at Jake and continued dramatically, "ATTEMPTED TO KILL HER!"

Gasps filled the room as everyone reacted in shock.

"That's a lie!" Jake interjected. "Where is your proof that we..."

CRASH!

The door burst open, revealing a tall man with fiery red hair.

"Ah, darn it," Sebastian muttered as he wiped the sweat from his brow. "I have to give it to these guards, they really work hard." He grinned at the men before ushering Agatha inside. "I hope we're not running late."

Agatha entered, her knees trembling. She took a deep breath and lifted her head, meeting the intense gazes of Mr. Jake Dawson and Mr. Ian Grim.

As she glanced around, she saw Lanceil standing in front, looking like he had been waiting for her. When their eyes met, a faint, reassuring smile played on his lips, silently conveying, 'Don't worry. It will all be over today.'

Lanceil faced everyone again and introduced the woman.

“This is Agatha Samson, the daughter of Mr. Samson whom will receive the 46% shares of this joined company.”

Agatha felt the chills on her spine as soon as she heard the announcement. She was so confused. How the hell did she suddenly have a share from a big company? Didn’t her father only left her a huge sum of debt?

At the announcement, only one person clapped his hands.

“Wow. Congratulations,” Sebastian said, even giving her a thumbs up.

Agatha and Sebastian were being followed by a group of men who entered the meeting hall. Their presence immediately caught everyone's attention, and Jake realized his mistake as soon as he saw his men.

"Look at these guys," Sebastian pointed at them. "They actually tried to kidnap Agatha on our way here. Anyway, now that I'm here, can someone tell me who's in charge of these idiots?" He clenched his fists, preparing himself for a confrontation.

All eyes turned to Jake Dawson. They recognized his men, which explained their presence.

"I didn't do that!" Jake denied. "In fact, I sent them to bring her here!"

"Liar," a soft voice silenced the room.

Everyone turned to see a girl speaking softly. Then they watched as she glared at Jake and Ian.

"You old men," she said, gathering her courage from her trembling feet to her shaky knees. "After killing my father, you wanted to kill me too? You greedy old fart!"

Sebastian raised his hand, trying to stifle his laughter. On the other side, Lanceil felt sorry for Agatha and couldn't find the situation amusing.

He stood there, next to the woman he loved, facing his father who had tried to harm her. Even though he was now helping Agatha, he couldn't ignore the fact that he was the son of an evil man.

Ian exclaimed, "I can't believe this!" "Did you and my son conspire to take control of Grim corporation from me?"

Jake chimed in, "Everything is a complete lie!" He smirked and added, "And even if it's true, where's your proof that we intended to harm you?"

Suddenly, another voice interrupted their conversation.

They turned to see Mikhail Dawson entering the room. He confidently stated, "I will provide the evidence." From his pocket, he revealed a recorder. "This contains a conversation between my father and Mr. Grim. They were planning to kill Mr. Samson's daughter."

The truth was finally revealed.

Ian slumped back into his seat, completely stunned.

Jake was in such disbelief that he nearly fainted. Meanwhile, a detective, whom Lawrence had contacted beforehand, arrived with an arrest warrant in hand.

"Detective Kim from Soro department," the detective announced. "I've come to apprehend Mr. Jake Dawson and Ian Grim for the murder of Mr. Samson and their attempted murder of his daughter."

Lanceil glanced at Agatha, who let out a sigh of relief upon hearing those words. She believed that the pursuit had finally come to an end.

Seeing her expression filled Lanceil with happiness. Although he knew it would be difficult to apologize to her, he was glad he had made the right decision.

Lanceil locked eyes with his father. He noticed Ian's intense glare towards Agatha. Despite everything seemingly being resolved, he couldn't shake off the unease. It was as if Ian had vowed that they would regret betraying him.
