Chapter 46: Chapter 46

"What are you still doing in that room? Don't you have things to do this morning?" A guard called out to Mariam the next day.

She was still curled up on her bed, her eyes swollen from crying throughout the night.

"Am I supposed to also work?" She asked the guard in surprise. She thought master Robin only cast her out of his chambers and not for her to return being a slave.

"What do you think? That you are only meant to eat and sleep all day? The guard asked staring disdainfully at Mariam

"Will you get up from there and follow me before I drag you myself" the guard shouted when Mariam made no effort of moving.

Mariam sniffed and stood up, this was too much disgrace to her, master Robin would have simply told her he wasn't going to marry her so she wouldn't have to maltreat the servants.

Now that she's back to being one of them, they would never spare her.

Robin would pay dearly for these, she would make sure of that even if that would be the last thing she do"

She followed the guard out as he lead her to the kitchen. The maids who saw her been dragged like a nobody couldn't help but laugh and make mockery of her.

Mariam knew what was up for her as she was pushed into the kitchen with force.

She staggered and landed on the floor, her buttocks in severe pain. She groaned and tried to stand up but was pushed down again.

"Hahahaha, such a whore who kept parading herself as the clan's lady" one of the maid shouted in mockery dragging her hair. The other servants laughed hard.

The kitchen soon became filled up with servants as they kept trouping in. Every one wanted to watch the wicked Mariam who made all their life unbearable. They kick and ridiculed her, dancing around her and singing in mockery tone.

Diana and Luciana also came to see for their selves. They had heard master Robin threw her out and got himself three mistresses.

"Too bad for you, you let yourself to be consumed by greed and quest for power that you went to the extent of betraying your friend all in the name of jealousy, now see where your greed and cruelty has landed you" Luciana spat.

"I knew even Master Robin would never find you attractive and he only wanted your body for pleasure.

" Now he's gotten tired of you and you are back to being a slave. What's more shameful than that" Luciana added staring disdainfully at Mariam.

Mariam sniffed back her tears. The humiliation was too much, they were all throwing different thing at her and some of the maids even spat on her face.

She couldn't bear the pain anymore, she staggered up from the floor and ran out of the kitchen.

"Hey, where do you think you are going?" The chief maid yelled calling her back.

"You must be stupid to think we would do all these dishes for you. "Do not keep your face in such a way because you deserve everything you are getting and even more with all you did to Lady Galene".

"Get to work before I lose my anger on you" Madam Pat, the chief maid shrieked.

Tears blinded Mariam's eyes, she wasn't feeling sorry for what she did but the hunger for revenge, she would not allow Master Robin humiliate her in such a way and go free.

She glared at the servant who pushed her, she felt the urge to slap her but she remembered she no longer has power and if she should lay her hand on any of the maids, they would all join forces and beat her.

She sighed and began washing the dirty dishes as the servants began exiting the kitchen on madam Pat's order.

They all left promising to do back to Mariam everything she had done to them, made them do and every pain she made their master's wife feel, they would make sure she gets double.

The kitchen was now empty with only a few people left in it, Luciana and some other maids working in the kitchen, Diana also.

She had refused going to her duty. She wanted to make every of Mariam's chore difficult for her.

Luciana wasn't left out also. Madam Pat knew everything Galene went through in Mariam's hands and she left the two girls to do whatever they want to do to Mariam.

"What are you doing?" Mariam heard and before she could raise her head up to know who was talking, a thunderous slap landed on her cheek.

She let out a scream and hastily raised her head, another one landed on her other cheek almost blinding her eyes.

She pushed her head down quickly to avoid another slap and her hands held her burning cheek.

"This is not how to wash dishes whore" she heard and instantly knew who they were.

Hot tears ran down her eyes in a great stream. The imprint of the slap was very visible on her both cheek.

"What have I done to you girls?" She stuttered and Diana frowned kicking her thigh.

How dare she ask them what she had done. Her friend's husband was no where to be found all because of her wickedness.

"You dare ask us what you did? Do not bother your self for by the time we finished dealing with you, no one would tell you what you did" Luciana spat.

Anger surged through Diana. Staring at Mariam's ugly face makes her want to tear her into shreds and cast her bones to the dogs.

"I think that's enough girls, let her do the dishes. We need her to be quick and leave before she poisons the entire castle" Madam Pat muttered in disgust.

Diana and Luciana glared hard at Mariam before they walked away, with Diana leaving the kitchen and returning to her duties.

Galene woke up, stretched herself and stood up from the mat she slept on.

It was late in the evening when Pa Arnold finished showing her the sword's picture.

It took him hours to find the book as the castle was destroyed and the book was no longer in its formal position.

"Good morning father" Galene greeted Arnold. Since he was her husband's father, she found it disrespectful to address him by his name.

Arnold smiled, his eyes that had been dead for years, for the first time in years, it shone brightly.

He couldn't believe his little boy of that year had grown into a man and would soon bear him a grandson.

He was grateful to Galene for coming into his son's life thereby making him reach her.

He hoped and prayed his son would believe him and clear out the venom and hatred he had harbored for him.

"How was your night child?" He asked with a smile. For the first time in years, he spoke to someone and someone shared his mat with him.

Not an ordinary person but her daughter in law, his one son's wife. He couldn't help but be grateful to the gods.

"Good father and yours?"

"Never slept so peacefully" he replied.

"We need to leave now. The journey back to Guthram is a far distance and we need to get the sword tonight" Galene said standing up on her feet and helping the old man stand.

They had planned that Arnold come into the castle in the quest of seeing the master, she would make Diana distract Mariam and Luciana distract the guards guarding the door then she can have the time to take out the sword without anyone noticing.

Arnold closed the old castle's door and together, the both walked through the bushes and out to the road.

Flagging down a carriage, the set off to get the sword of life and save their Damien.

It was always sunset when they arrived and Galene quickly told the old man to go into the castle while she follows the secret entrances.

Pushing the key into the door, Galene opened the door which made a clicking sound.

She tiptoed in and carefully shut back the door then dragged back the book shelf to cover the door properly.

Galene rushed out of the library and hurriedly walked down the hallway getting to their room.

She walked into the room and Diana rushed her alongside Luciana.

"Where have you been Galene?" Luciana asked with a frown.

"I went out to seek for solutions to our problems and I'm glad I found it" Galene said with a smile.

"Really? What solution did you find? Is there anyway we can help out?" Luciana asked and Galene nodded filling them in with the solution and how they could easily get the sword out of the master's chambers without any issues.

*

"May I know what business you came with? I was told you came for business and it'd be a good one because I wouldn't take it lightly if my enjoyment was cut short for nothing" Master Robin said sitting in the hall with Arnold.

"I am sorry if I did cut short your pleasure but I promise you would like my offer" Arnold replied in a professional manner.

"Good, go straight to the point" Master Robin ordered and sat back.

*

Come on Galene, they are gone, quickly rush in" Luciana signaled to Galene after the guards left.

Diana had told them the master called them, if Galene could quickly go in, then she would be out before they return.

Galene swiftly ran into the room and straight to the big wardrobe. She doesn't know where the button was in particular but she knew she had fell that day and touch the wardrobe.

She began roaming her hands beneath the wardrobe in search of the button.

Luckily she found it and quickly pressed it. The door appeared and opened.

Galene had no more time and soon, the guards would return to see they had been fooled.

Galene ran into the dark room and surprisingly, only the entrance was dark as the inner shown brightly.

Her eyes roamed around the wall, there were different war tools ranging from swords to arrows to Bolo knifes and a lot she couldn't tell their names.

Her eyes caught the sword hanging separately around two skulls. She couldn't tell what skulls those were, she quickly took down the sword and rushed out of the room.

Pressing the button pack, the door disappeared and Galene hurried out of the room.

Thankfully, the guards weren't back and Galene released a huge sigh of relief.

Come on, let's get out of here before they get back" Galene muttered hurriedly and the all ran to the direction of the old library.

They got into the library and shut the door tightly, bolting it.

"Thank you both so much" Galene muttered hugging her friends. She wouldn't have gotten the sword of not for the help they both rendered.

"We are glad we could help" Diana said.

"But what are we doing in a library, aren't we supposed to be looking for a way out for you?" Luciana asked staring around the book filled shelfs around the library.

Galene smiled "there's an entrance here and this was where I followed yesterday, watch" Galene said and shifted the big shelf aside revealing the door.

The both girls gasped in shock and surprise at the same time. No one would ever imagine such door was hidden behind the book shelf.

Galene opened the door and the girl's eyes flew open in shock. In front of them was the woods outside the castle.

"Wow" Diana marveled. Master Damien is such a wise master, she thought.

"Thank you both, I have to go now and I promise to return with my husband alive" Galene muttered, hugged her friends and left through the door.

She locked the door and Diana arranged back the shelf from inside.

They both peeped and when they were sure no one was coming their way, they came out of the library and walked back to their room.

The guards returned immediately the girls left and rushed into the chambers to see no one.

"That girl had us fooled" one of the guard muttered with a sigh.

The master had yelled at them and they scurried out.

"I would go find out why they had us fooled" one of the guard said and sauntered to the girl's room.

Diana opened the door and nearly busted out laughing when she saw the expression of the guard.

"What?" She asked staring at him, no form of emotion on her face, her face remained blank as ever.

"You came to tell you that master Damien sent for us when it was all a lie" they guard shrieked glaring at Diana.

"Oh really? Diana exclaimed.I thought I heard him call for the guards. I must have heard wrong, pardon my manners".

"Next time you want to pass informations, be sure you heard correct. You nearly landed us in trouble" the guard continued yelling.

"Well I have already apologized to you, since he didn't kill you then you shouldn't be shouting at me. I just tried to save the both of you by calling you.
