Chapter 42: Chapter 42
Two months later...
Master Robin sat on a chair writing on a scroll. His eyes were fixated on the scroll as he constantly dip the feather into the ink pad.
The door opened and Mariam walked in. Master Robin looked up and sighed seeing who it was.
He knew what she came to do again. Disturb and query him about his promise, something she had constantly done for the past two months.
He took his eye back to the scroll ignoring her present.
Mariam furiously Walked towards him, drops of tears visible in her eyes.
She got to his front and began wailing loudly, her painted cheek getting stained with her tears.
"This woman!" Master Robin mentally yelled in frustration. He hated the fact that he cannot cast her out just yet.
He still needs to be sure Damien is dead or at least get Galene to become his.
The lady had been proving so much stubborn lately, putting up fights anytime he tries touching her and he could not wait for her to be put to bed so he could have her without answering to any query by the council elders.
"What do you want Mariam? Can you not see how busy I was when you barged in here to disturb me with your cry" Master Robin shrieked in a harsh tone.
Mariam heard the harshness in his tone and increased her wail.
"You no longer care about me Master, After all the help I rendered to you, I even-
"Stop Mariam" Master Robin cut her off.
"What do you want and why are you crying?" Master Robin asked, this time with a softer tone.
"You promised me, Master, it's been three months since you took over and you have never fulfilled your promise to me.
Every time I bring up the matter, you brush it aside and now I've been ridiculed by that Galene for parading myself when I'm not even sure if I would ever be your bride" Mariam sobbed.
Tears flowed freely down her eyes. She had never felt so much embarrassed as she felt when Galene lashed out at her.
She had mistakingly kicked her stomach when hitting her and Galene had lost it and fought her back with her mouth.
"Galene rained so much Insult on me Master all because you refused to fulfill your promise," Mariam said weeping louder.
"I did not forget my promise, Mariam. I just haven't concluded things. Damien's is still missing and we need to be sure he is dead.
If he is alive somewhere then we are not saved. I would fulfill my promise to you sooner" Master Robin lied.
He doesn't care if Damien is alive or dead. He had taken over the clan and warriors.
If Damien ever returned then he would put up a fight and end him once and for all.
So his not fulfilling his promise had nothing to do with Damien's disappearance.
"Do you mean what you just said, Master?" Mariam asked with a smile, her once tear-filled face became suddenly dried and she grinned from ear to ear.
Master Robin nodded and returned writing on his scroll.
"That fool, I would so deal with her" Mariam fumed referring to Galene.
"You must not harm her Mariam. We still need her and her child alive. Do not do anything that would put her in a critical condition" Master Robin warned and Mariam scoffed.
She just heard the best news of her life and would not allow Galene to spoil it for her. Somehow, she was happy Galene insulted her.
If not, she wouldn't have gotten any answer from Master Robin if not for the Insult.
"Would you want me to relieve your stress master?" Mariam asked seductively running her hands-on Master Robin's chest.
"Mariam!" Master Robin grunted in a sharp tone. I am busy right now, please excuse me" he muttered and took her hands off his chest.
Mariam scoffed and stepped away. A knock sounded on the door.
"Who's there" Mariam yelled in again. "A guard my lady" the voice replied.
"Come in"
The door opened and the guard stepped in.
"Good morning my Lord" The guard bowed in greeting.
"Yes, Duru?"
"Elder Gatmos is here to see you," Duru said with a bow.
"Tell him to give me a minute," Master Robin said and Duru nodded, leaving the room.
Master Robin dropped the scroll on the table and stood up. He arranged his robe and sauntered out of the chamber.
Mariam groaned in frustration. She wanted him to have her but that guard had to disrupt it.
Master Robin walked into the hall where Elder Gatmos was waiting for him.
"My Lord" elder Gatmos bowed in greeting. Master Robin ignored him and walked over to his sit.
"Gatmos, state your mission," Master Robin said with a stoic expression. He knew while he came and he isn't ready to grant him anything.
"My Lord it has been three months since you assumed the position of a Master.
"You know I played a huge part in making the elders and priest nominate you. I have come for the reward you promised" Elder Gatmos said with seriousness.
"Gatmos have you come here this early morning to request for your reward which I had promised you" Master Robin barked.
"I'm afraid but yes my lord"
"And what if I cancel the reward, should I be afraid of you?"
"You promised to make me the second in command and the chief Elder and you are yet to fulfill your promise, I demand to know why" Gatmos flared.
Robin had approached him with a mouth-watering offer. Get the elders to nominate him and become his second in command which he did.
It wasn't easy for him to convince them because he had always had a say in the council meeting. His words are said to be that of wisdom so the other elders obliqued without a second thought.
After master Robin took over, he had refused to make him the chief Elder as he promised and he would never take it lightly.
"I'm afraid yes my Lord. I would have no choice than convince the elders to take you down"
"I have pieces of information on the crimes you committed and I know you are behind the evil that befell our formal master" Elder Gatmos said without fear.
"And do you think they would believe you if you say such crap about me?" master Robin snickered.
"You do not need to worry yourselves for I have so much evidence against you. I shall take my leave now" Elder Gatmos said and stood up to leave.
"No Gatmos, it has not gotten to that, please sit back," Master Damien said. His heart thumped against his chest.
How could Gatmos have evidence against him and trying to throw him down if he doesn't fulfill his promise?
One thing is sure, if he ever make Gatmos the chief Elder, someday Gatmos would still use those evidences and expose him for greed.
Gatmos sat back down, happy he was able to get through master Robin. Now he would be heavily rewarded.
Master Robin stood up and started walking to Gatmos with a smile plastered on his face.
"You know we are friends Gatmos and I cannot refuse to reward you right," Master Robin said smiling.
Dark emotions hiding behind his smiles. It was so obvious he was planning something evil but Gatmos who was blinded by his smiling face couldn't notice it.
"Now you are talking my Lord" Gatmos said with a wide smile but his smile seized as he felt his stomach tear.
Gatmos looked down his stomach with widened eyes then looked up to Master Robin.
"You will die a shameful death Robin" he muttered weakly and slumped.
"Fool, you just died shamefully by my sword, you can now go and expose your ancestors," Master Robin said in disgust, kicking the corpse with his boots. He wiped the blood off the sword with Gatmos's robe.
"Gaurd" he called out and a guard rushed into the room.
"Clear this mess" he stated and walked out of the hall with the sword dangling in his hands.
*
"Wash these as well," a maid said throwing more clothes at Galene.
"And stop being slow, you do not have all day, lady Mariam still needs your services so do not think these clothes would be the only chore you would do today, hurry up" another maid ordered.
A few maids giggled as they watch from a distance making a mockery of Galene.
She was at the laundry room washing the heaps of clothes Mariam gave her to wash, the clothes were much yet Mariam kept sending maids to bring more clothes to her.
She wondered how Mariam managed to wear so much many clothes within a weak.
Most of the clothes were clean cloth she'd washed the last week but to punish her, she brought them again.
"The Master sent for you" a guard came to inform Galene.
"Where is he?" Galene asked not sparing the guard a glance.
"In his chambers and you must come with me now" the guard replied.
Galene sighed and rinsed foam off her hands, dried her wet hand with one of the unwashed clothes then followed the guard to the master's chamber.
"You called for me"
"Yes sweetheart, I hope you have changed your mind concerning what we talked about," Master Robin said.
He was smoking from a pipe and staring lustfully at Galene. He had sent Mariam out to the market so he could have enough time with Galene.
"We talked about nothing" Galene replied with a hard tone.
He crossed the distance them then grabbed Galene's jaw harshly. I thought I would go easy on you but you know what?" He asked glaring maliciously at her. "You are so stubborn so I would handle you stubbornly.
"Guards!!" Master Robin called holding a smirk at the corner of his lips.
"What was he going to do to me" Galene mumbled to herself while staring back at master Robin.
The door opened and two guards entered. Robin let go of her jaw and instructed the guards to grab her.
"Give her lots of tasks to do and make sure she finishes them before the day ends," he said.
Galene's eyes widened. It was sunset already and she still had a lot of clothes to wash, now this monster is giving her another work to do.
She hadn't even had anything to eat since morning. Her baby had gotten used to starving and no longer disturbing.
"Whenever you change your mind, you know where to find me," Master Robin said turning away.
The guards bundled Galene out of the chamber and when they tried taking her to the farmyard, Galene begged them to allow her to finish up Mariam's clothes first then she would come to the farmyard.
They agreed and warned her not to waste their time. She nodded ran back to the laundry room.
She sat and continued washing the clothes, this time picking out the clean ones.
She would not wash them again since they were already clean.
She took out the cloth she wore to the ball party and sighed.
This was the cloth she wore on that day her husband was shot. The day she laid eyes on her husband last.
She sighed. She couldn't believe he was nowhere to be found but deep down in her, she knew he would never forsake her. He must surely come back for her, his child, and Clan.
She sniffed, wiping her tear streaked face. She needed to finish up the clothes otherwise she might end up sleeping in the stable again.
She was about to dip the ball gown into the water when a piece of paper fell out from it.
Galene picked up the piece of paper and opened it. She stare at the address written on the paper, thinking about how she got it.
"The old man who looked exactly like her husband. He had given her the Paper and told her to come to the address if she needs to know how he looked like her husband and what she needs to know about her husband.
"This address" Galene mumbled staring intently at the paper.
She remembered seeing such an address in her dream. She had woke up very confused that day and had forgotten about the dream but seeing this address now and it was the same as the one she saw in her dream.
Curiosity flew in her eyes. She suddenly has a lot of questions and seeing the old man might solve one of them.
Maybe the man might be related to her husband or in some way Know people related to her husband.
She needs to get out of the castle and go in search of the old man. Maybe, just maybe it could aid in her husband's search.
Galene folded the paper and threw it into her breast hold. She wouldn't want it to disappear while she works in the stable.
Dipping the ball gown into the water, she began washing as fast as she could. It didn't take so much time again before she finished, rinsed the clothes, and spread them before heading to the farmyard.
