Chapter 88: Chapter 88
JUNE
“Slut?” I took a step towards her, with my brows raised. Though my legs felt like jelly, and my heart was beating miles a minute, I wasn't about to let someone insult me. “Who gave you the audacity to call me that?!” I narrowed my eyes at the girl, who looked smug.
“I did,” she stepped forward, closing the distance between us. “Who gave you the right to act self-righteous when you are nothing but a needy bitch!”
A slap accompanied her words. Before I could stop myself, my right hand had already done the job.
She gasped, cradling her left cheek, with her eyes narrowed darkly at me. “How dare you?!” She raised her hand to slap me, and I got ready for it, but it was all interrupted by a call from Mark.
“What's going on there?!” He ran towards us and got to me in less than ten seconds. “Are you okay?” He asked before he turned to face the lady, whose expression had dramatically changed.
It wasn't that difficult to know that she had a crush on Mark. Well, I don't blame her. Not one bit.
“I'm okay, Mark,” I held his right arm, smiling at the girl, who frowned at my action. “Just some sex-depraved student looking for some pointers,” I smiled innocently.
“You—” She pointed at me, only to realize that Mark was still there. Begrudgingly, she withdrew her hand. “Just be careful of the viper. She might be using you. After all, she's fucking her uncle.”
With those words said to Mark, she turned her back to us and went back the way she came, while I watched her, regretting not giving her a thorough beating. If only Mark hadn't interrupted us.
I would have taught that bitch how to speak to others.
“What was that about?” Mark turned to face me, placing his hand under my jaw, so I could look up at him. “What does she mean by you fucking your uncle? Who told her about that?”
“I don't know,” I frantically shook my head as I told him what happened. “She just walked up to me and started ranting like a bitch. Who the hell even told her about me?”
“Do you think there's something we don't know?” Mark looked to be deep in thought. “When I went to the library, most of the students in there were staring blatantly. But….”
“Do you think they found out about us?” I stepped out of his embrace, widening my eyes when I finally thought of something.
“No, that can't be possible. You—”
“My phone!”
I opened his car, and brought out my phone, just to discover that it was switched off.
“Fuck! I forgot to charge this last night!” I tugged on my hair, feeling the frustration seep into my bones.
“Do you…You don't think...”
“Can I have your phone?”
“Let me get it,” he went over to his side to get his phone, while I took the opportunity to slide into the car, closing the door behind me. “Here,” he passed his phone to me and got into the car.
The first thing I did when I got his phone was to log into the school's server. And that was when I saw it.
“Fucking hell!” I threw the phone down as my heartbeat increased. My palms became sweaty as tears clouded my eyes. I have never felt this nervous and scared in my entire life.
It felt as if I was about to faint from both the thoughts spiralling in my mind, and how fast the beating of my heart was.
“What's wrong, June?”
Mark's voice sounded so far away. My breathing was too loud, and the pain I felt in my skull was enough to drown his voice.
I gasped, holding on to the hem of my gown. Breathing became too difficult for me.
“You need to calm down, June!" I heard Mark shout, but it felt like he was too far from me.
I continued to gasp, shaking in my seat with my fingers clenched.
“Breathe, June. You need to calm down,” his voice was able to pierce through my consciousness. “Breath, June,” he whispered once more, placing his hand on the back of my head.
I don't know how long we stayed there with Mark guiding me until I was able to finally focus on my surroundings.
“That's my girl,” he leaned down and kissed the top of my hair. “It's okay. Everything is alright, darling,” he continued to whisper until I was able to fully calm down.
“My uncle,” I muttered, still clutching to the hem of my gown.
“Let's take you home, first. We can discuss it over there. It will be more convenient,” he helped me put on the seatbelt before he did the same to me. “Don't think of what you saw, June. You need to be calm, for your baby.”
He gently spoke to me throughout the drive from the school to my home. He was the one who kept me sane, else I might have lost it when I saw those photos.
Who the hell took pictures of us kissing last night?
I glanced at the big diamond on my finger. It hasn't been up to a day since he proposed, and we have been exposed.
Who the fuck did this? Could it be that my fears about getting caught weren't just my perceptions like Kristin thought?
Mark drove me home as fast as he could. The moment he parked his car, my uncle ran out of the house, looking like all hell was after him.
I have never seen Kristin this dishevelled. Even when I was giving him a dose of my rebellion, he has always been able to put himself together.
But now, he looked like something swallowed and tossed out by a whale.
“Doll, are you okay?” He asked the moment I got out of the car. His bloodshot, red eyes locked with mine as he gave me a once over, looking for anything that might be amiss with me.
