Chapter 87: Chapter 87
KRISTIN
Good riddance.
I fell into my chair. It's either Dija is crazy or delusional. I even see her bagging both qualities. What the fuck?!
I see no reason why you should unnecessarily disturb yourself over something—someone—that you know doesn't give a fuck about you.
Fuck it, I'm a man, not a dog.
You can't just spread your legs and expect me to dive in like a fucking Olympic champion.
Was I changing?
The Kristin of old jumps at every offer to fuck.
Did June have a hand in it?
Yes, I realized that accepting my feelings for June made my life a whole lot better. There is this unusual eagerness to go home whenever I am at work. And the need to pull her close is so strong when we are together that sometimes, we end up in bed doing nothing but cuddling and rolling around until my needs are satisfied.
To me, that is the life of perfection I've always prayed for. It warms my heart to see June glowing, laughing from her heart like I haven't seen her do in a very long time.
It's safe to say that she has gotten very beautiful.
Don't get me wrong, she has always been beautiful, even more than beautiful. But... the happiness and warmth in her eyes nowadays add to her charisma. On more than one occasion, I've seen her light up, growing increasingly active whenever I return from work.
There is a feeling of happiness that flows through you when you know that you bring someone happiness. I don't know how to explain it. It starts with this warm feeling in my chest, spreading around my body with a tingling that leaves me itching to touch her, to kiss the beautiful spread of embarrassment on her cheeks when she sees me checking her out, and pull her body to rest against mine.
Her eyes are everything. Fuck! She was created in perfection. 'Cause why the hell would someone look so damn perfect?
And—
"KRISTIN?"
I looked up at the call. Edith was standing at the door, her brows furrowed in something I recognized to be confusion.
She walked closer with the look still on her face.
"You look very happy," She stopped in front of my table. "Kristin, you're almost blushing. What's going on?"
I brushed off the smile immediately, "Oh, nothing. Pay no heed to me."
"I don't know what you said to Dija, but it doesn't feel like the both of you were in the same room discussing the same subject. You look a direct contradiction of how she looked when she walked past us."
I instantly killed the smile that threatened to surface.
"She wants a termination. And she will get it."
Immediately Edith took her seat, I knew we were going to have a long conversation, and I didn't want that.
"You still haven't told me exactly what happened."
I sighed, "Edith, you have asked me this before. I don't know. I don't wanna know. She is probably not interested anymore. I don't give a fuck about her. Dija or not, my company will, and has been, standing."
Edith nodded slowly.
"Let's leave that aside," she said in a soft voice. "I don't want to upset you. How is Mark?"
The sudden change in conversation with Mark left a bitter taste in my mouth. What the hell was supposed to happen to Mark?
He was probably in his father's house enjoying his father's money as usual, and probably scheming new ways to get into June's pants. The bastard!
"Okay, I guess that also wasn't a good topic," she murmured. "Okay then. So how is June?"
For the second time since the day started thoughts of June filtered into my brain, and the atmosphere lit up.
That is the effect of June. She lights everything up.
"June is doing great," I tried to sound very uncle-like. "She is also taking school seriously. I am happy."
"You just have to take it easy with her. You know kids of this generation don't want to listen. You've just got to be patient and—"
"Edith, June is fine," I interrupted and knitted my brows. Why must she always think of stubbornness whenever June's name comes up?
I don't like that.
She nodded again. I could see that she was running out of topics.
I needed to push her out of my office as fast as possible.
The opportunity came when she got up and flicked imaginary dust off her skirt.
"I need to get back to work."
"Me too," I murmured.
Without another word, she walked out.
*. *. *. *.*
I stayed busy till it was about mid-afternoon. The sun was very bright, casting hot rays across the city.
I couldn't wait to get back home and bury myself in my doll's embrace.
A call came into my line.
Thinking it was June, I grabbed the phone as fast as I could, only to see that it was a shareholder in my company.
"Long time no see, Ted," I said immediately after the call connected.
"Hey."
"Hey," I said back, a little dry. His voice didn't sound welcoming. "To what do I owe—"
"I am withdrawing my shares."
"Excuse me," I sat up with wide eyes. "What did you just say?"
"I am withdrawing all my shares... right now."
I blinked. All?!
"What happened, Ted? What's going on?"
"I just thought to let you know. Get ready for my arrival."
The call disconnected.
I blinked and looked around me. What the fuck?!!
My phone rang again.
Mr. David is a mentor and father. He was the main character that helped me climb up in the business world. Even today, I still go to him for business and personal advice.
I would be nothing without him.
Seeing his call made me almost sigh in relief. At least, I can get some ideas from him.
"Kristin?"
"Good afternoon, sir." Yup, he is old enough to be my father. "I was just about calling you. Something just happened."
"What is it?"
"Would you believe someone just withdrew all his shares from my company? Like, what the heck?" I palmed my forehead. "Forgive me, how is the beautiful madam?"
"My wife is disgusted. She wants nothing to do with you. So do I."
I jumped to my feet, my heart racing.
"What is going on?" My palms suddenly became sweaty. "David, what are you talking about?"
"What I'm saying is that I also want all my share withdrawn, and don't ever call me."
The call disconnected.
What was happening?!
I rushed out of my office to ask what was going on.
All heads turned in my direction. It was clear that they didn't want to look at me in that manner, but they couldn't help it.
"What is going on?" I asked nobody in particular. And I received no response. Their looks suggested that they knew something. "Can someone tell me what the fuck is happening?!" I barked, already losing my cool.
Everybody turned back to their systems and continued working. Not a word was spoken.
Even Edith who was out here with the workers on the first floor, did not spare me a glance.
The receptionist gave me the same look, only hers was with pity.
"Well... I know," she said immediately after our eyes made contact.
At her words, I rushed to her table. "Please tell me, what the hell is going on!"
"Not tell. I will show you instead," She dug out her phone and keyed in her passcode. "Take a look at this."
My jaw first dropped. Then my legs wobbled. Then I gasped in shock.
I threw her phone on the desk and ran to my office, scrambling around for my phone.
"June, pick up!" I begged even before dialling her. It was switched off. Her number was switched off!
And I don't have that bastard's number!
I grabbed my keys and raced for the parking lot...
