Chapter 36: Chapter 36
JUNE
I heave, trying not to yell out loud when all I want to do is go on a stalking spree, get hold of that damned humanoid Barbie, and rip her hair off her damn skull.
“June?” He asked when I didn't say a word.
I took a deep, steady breath, closed my eyes and tried not to say anything rash.
“Well… Congratulations,” I bit out as tears slowly slid down my face. I clenched my fists tight, “Well, since you are now dating, I don't think I'm returning home anytime from now.”
I disconnected without waiting for him to say a word, only to throw the phone on the wall as a scream ripped through my throat.
Mark came close to me, and wrapped his hands around me, “Are you okay? What did he say to you?”
Since the phone wasn't on the loudspeaker, he didn't hear the conversation I heard with my uncle.
“He's dating her,” I managed to choke out as uncontrollable tears slid down my face. My heart felt like it was being squeezed.
“Edith?”
I nodded, unable to form a coherent word as tears continued to flow down my face until it felt like I was choking on it.
All this while, I thought I was broken-hearted, but it can't be compared to how I feel now.
****
Kristin called me throughout the night, but I ignored him, not in the mood to listen since he's now dating the she-devil.
“I don't think we have any reason to keep up with what we are doing. He's dating her, I don't think I have any reason to continue fake-dating you,” I told Mark the moment I entered the sitting room.
I woke up from a restless sleep and just had a five-minute bath before I got dressed in one of his loose shorts and baggy shirt before I came downstairs to meet him, running a hand through my damp hair as I sat on one of the couches.
The professor left early this morning, and Mark's eldest brother went on a business trip and won't be back until next week.
“Why?” He dropped his phone and turned to face me. “What's wrong? Did you have a bad dream?”
“One that's enough to make me change my mind? Nah.” I continued to run my fingers through my hair, “I don't think it's wise to continue with the plans. Let's drop it.”
“No!” He rose from the couch and approached me. “It's still not over, June. Can't you see? He might have gotten together with her because he's afraid of his feelings for you!” He closed the distance between us and raised his hand to caress my face. “I promised to help you get your uncle, and I will fulfil it. I will make sure you get together with him.”
“Even if it doesn't seem like we will make progress in that?”
I was sceptical about this. How the hell does he intend to get me together with my uncle when he's dating a humanoid Barbie, who must be too good in bed to make my uncle mad over him?
He smirked, “You need to trust me. I know the right way to make your uncle mad.” He leaned in to kiss my left cheek, but I froze. “Relax, June. You spent the night with your boyfriend, so something must have happened between us. Even if we didn't have sex, we made out at least.”
“But…." I swallowed, feeling a bit odd when he brought his face closer. My heart hammered in my chest as I gulped, trying not to be repulsed at the thought of having my best friend's face closer to mine.
“I'm going to give you a Hickey, so I need you to be prepared for it,” he said before he kissed my neck.
I yelped, almost jumping out of my skin at the feel of his tongue on my exposed neck. My heart raced, feeling like it was about to leap out of my chest.
“Relax,” he gently placed both of his hands on the side of my shoulders, trying to comfort me. “We need to make this believable enough for him to think we are dating.”
“Then do it!” I closed my eyes and clenched my fists, trying not to think of having another man's mouth on my neck.
He was quick, licking before he bit down hard, enough to make a scar. It was over in minutes, something I was grateful for.
As he stepped back, I touched the part of my neck he placed a Hickey on, feeling odd About having another man's mouth on me.
The only person I wish to feel his mouth on me is my uncle, but it seems he's not available, at least for now.
“Now, you are ready for your uncle.” He gave me a look of appraisal. “Your uncle will legit shit in his pants when he sees the mark on you, trust me.” He winked at me.
“And let's not forget that I'm putting on your clothes,” I raised my hands, turning a bit to give him the full deal.
“Yeah, ready to meet your uncle.” He took his car key from the table and turned to me. “We will order breakfast on the way. What do you want?”
“Just coffee. I'm not in the mood for anything else.” I checked the time on my phone, “Kristin will be at work by now. That's if he's not trying to act lazy by staying at home all day.”
“Must be good to be a CEO. He get to stay at home all day doing nothing and then —”
“Don't dream of that. He's not as lazy as you think he is. Well, he turned lazy these few months. My uncle is a workaholic, who only makes out time for me.” I smiled, remembering the time I spent with my uncle before my feelings created a hedge between us. Those days were the best, and I will forever cherish it.
“I guess so.” He took my hand in his and led me out of the house, locking the door behind him.
He opened the door for me and I slid in before he closed it, and hastened to the other side, got in and turned to face me with a smile. “So?” He raised his brow.
“Let's go according to plans. We will have coffee before meeting Kristin. I need to be fully awake for the confrontation." I sighed, thinking about what would happen when we finally meet my uncle.
Deep down, I know something is about to go down.
