Chapter 15: Chapter 15

June

Mark was waiting at the bleachers, playing a video game, which he downloaded yesterday.

“Knew I will find you here, lazy bone.” I sat next to him, and placed my backpack on his thighs, focusing on the men playing football.

It has been long since I saw them playing around like this because I'm either studying or hurrying home to my uncle who doesn't care a shit about me.

He paused his game, “through with your class?” He raised his brows at me.

“Hmm,” I leaned my head on his right shoulder. “What are you doing over here? No more class for the day?”

“Me?” He chuckled. “You should have known how much I love going to classes. I only attend the ones I feel like attending and leave the rest to the professors.”

“Doh.”

I closed my eyes and allowed the voices from the men playing in the field to wash through me.

“What's your type?” I suddenly asked, not even aware of the question until it left my mouth.

“My type?” He grew silent, making me think he was not going to reply, but he stunned me by doing that. “A sassy girl. One who doesn't take no for an answer.”

“Hmm.”

“I love girls with naturally black hair and brown eyes. One who's not too tall, and not too short —cute, it will be.” He sighed, “she will be someone with a good sense of humour.”

“It sounds awfully like me.” I raised my head and frowned at him, “are you making fun of me?”

“Why will I? Are you looking down at yourself?” He tucked a strand of my hair behind my left ear, “you are someone's type, June.”

“But not you.” I made faces at him, “I know I'm beautiful, but I can't be your type.”

I only wish to be my uncle's type and no one else's.

“Why?”

“Because you are not nerdy! You are still a boy,” I folded my arms. “I don't date boys.”

I date men like my uncle; manly and able to fuck me hard — if everything I have witnessed is any indication.

He chuckled, “That's why you are still single.”

“And so are you. You are always single,” I playfully nudged him. “We are in the same boat, single forever.”

“Then, let's mingle. It won't be bad to date, will it?” He raised a brow at me.

“Eww. I won't be caught dead dating you.” I wrinkled my nose, got up, and took my backpack. “Uncle hasn't called yet. I think he has forgotten about it.”

“Then, let's make good of it?” He winked at me. “There is a party at —”

“Hell no! I'm not going anywhere with you. Kristin will have my head if he discovers that I went to a party." I shook my head, not ready to condone his idea. Kristin just allowed me leisure time, I can't do something that might make him imprison me —forever.

“Come on, you are not a baby, are you?” He raised a brow. “You are acting like a baby, which is so unlike you. Always claiming that you need to be given enough freedom when you can't even do anything to step out.”

“But…”

“I promise, he won't know anything.” He rose and slung his backpack on his back, “I will ask my father to call him. You don't have to worry about your uncle. He won't suspect a thing.” He took my hand in his and led me towards the gates.

My uncle didn't call until we reached his house. Mark's father wasn't around when we arrived, so I took the call, knowing I'm up for some scolding from him.

“Where are you, June? I'm at your school's gate. Come out and —”

“I'm at Mark's house.”

“What?!” He yelled so loud that I had to remove my phone from my ear with a wince.

“We were assigned a class project which we have to go through and —”

“Why don't you do it at home? You are still grounded. You know that, right?”

“Of course,” I rolled my eyes. “How can I forget it? You don't cease to remind me of that all the damned time.” I plopped down on the couch and dropped my backpack next to me.

“Return home now, June. If there is any project you need to work on with him, you can do that at home, where I can supervise you.”

“Why? Do you think I will do something with him?” I crossed my right leg over my left and gave Mark a sign to get soft drinks for me, while I listened to my uncle, who thinks he can command me to do whatever he pleases.

“He's a boy, June.” He said as if being a boy is some sort of sin.

“And?” I glanced at the kitchen to be certain that Mark isn't within earshot. “Will it be a bad thing for me to date him? Mark is my childhood friend, so —”

“June,” he took a deep, breath. “Return home now that I'm asking nicely. You won't like what I will do if I disc—”

“I have a project to complete with Mark. If you don't have anything important to tell me, I will hang —”

“Don't you dare do that! June Milda Stone. If you don't return to the house this instant, I will —”

“Do what? Come over to take me back screaming and kicking? What the hell is wrong with you, Kristin? Why do you always have sex in your mind? You don't want to do it with me, and you don't want others to do that?

Do you wish for me to remain a nun until my death?” I felt this urge to tug hard on my hair because of how frustrated I was with my uncle. I know I'm acting like a little bitch, but that's because he made me this way!

“June!”

“My name.”

“Don't try to act sassy with me, young lady. We have gone through this before. And I have no wish to repeat it. You —”

“Kristin?”

I heard the familiar voice of that hoe in the background, and it seemed to heighten my anger.

“A minute, Edith.”

“Oh, you are at the office with your whore, and you expect me to return home to — Wait a minute, did you come with her to my school to pick me up? Planning on making her your girlfriend?” I snapped, feeling the urge to throw my phone on the wall.

“That's none of your business, June!” He boomed, sounding pissed.

“I know. It's adult business, and I'm not old enough to be privy to it. I know about it, don't worry. You can continue with whatever you are doing with the bitch. I will return the project I have with Mark.”

“June —”

I disconnected and dropped my phone on the table before I turned to face Mark, who just walked out of their kitchen.

“Trouble in paradise?"

"Always."
