Chapter 24: Chapter 24
I handed my resignation to my manager. All of the people at work were surprised. They were all asking me to reconsider, but I told them I have made up my mind. Plus, the flight tickets and motel are already booked. It will be a waste if I will not proceed with my plan.
I haven't heard from Acwell. He probably meant it when he said he will give me space. But at some point, I feel hurt that he is not pursuing in finding us.
"He really doesn't care much about us," I whispered when I was playing with Kai. But I try to be strong for both of us.
The day before my flight, I finished all my papers at work. I am officially resigned. And I got the checked for my gratuity. I went to the bank and have it encash. Then, have it exchanged from dirhams to dollars.
The babysitter sent me a message that Acwell was asking about our whereabouts. We did an agreement that she will only tell him that I asked her to stop babysitting Kai, and she doesn't know where we are. I thought that she will give in to Acwell's plead of helping him, but she did not tell him.
I sighed when I went home. I was contemplating whether I should tell Acwell what I will do and where I am going. But I have decided that I will respond to his messages and asked to stop looking for us later before we board the plane.
Our flight was around 01:00 AM. We are lucky that we did not have problems passing all the checks at the airport. It went really smoothly that I could say that we were meant to do this.
Kai was sleepy when we board the airplane. I was lucky that he finally dozed to sleep when we're already settled on our chairs. I looked at him. I wondered if Kai was okay that he has not seen his father. Does he miss him? Am I hurting him? I dismissed all of those thoughts and just became optimistic about what I am doing. I remembered Acwell, so, for the last time, I sent him a message before the plane takes off.
"I am going somewhere. Don't worry, we will be okay. Please don't bother to message, call or email me. I will not respond to any of it. I will only communicate when you tell me that you are ready for divorce. Just tell me the papers you need from me to process it. Take care of yourself."
As soon as I hit the sent button, the flight attendant told me to switch off my phone. The plane is now taxing and preparing to take off. I did as I was told though I was hesitating because I wanted to know how Acwell would respond.
"This is it! Goodbye, Acwell!" I whispered to myself.
On the other hand, Acwell just arrived at the apartment drank. He was with Ace again, trying to drown his sadness, but he cannot talk about it. He was about to sleep when he received a message from Kamiah.
Acwell could not believe what he was reading. He thought that maybe because he was drunk so, he was seeing the words wrongly. So, he reread it. It talks about Kamiah leaving and divorce.
"What the hell are you talking about, Kamiah?" Acwell shouted from anger.
He replied to her message asking where she is and demands to talk to her. Kamiah did not respond nor even read the WhatsApp message he sent to her. He called her, but Kamiah's phone was switched off. Acwell sent her a voicemail shouting with anger.
"Where are you, Kamiah? What are you talking about leaving and divorce? Come back here this instant."
After an hour, Kamiah still ignored him. And Acwell just fell asleep on the bed as he was so drunk, but he managed to tell his boss that he will not be reporting for work the next day. He is determined to find his wife and son.
Acwell woke up almost 11:00 AM. He checked his phone, still nothing from Kamiah. He was so disappointed, but he just stood, went to the toilet, and took a shower.
While he was drinking his coffee, he reread Kamiah's message. Now that he was sober, he was still hoping that he misread her message to him. But no. She really did, said that they were leaving, and mentioned not to talk to her not unless it's about divorce.
Acwell closed his eyes as tears fell from his eyes. Kamiah had really got fed up with him. He had destroyed the beautiful family and marriage he has. He was thinking of what he will do now.
"I can't live without you," he whispered.
After a few minutes, he had the idea of acting as a friend and called the hotel that she was working with. He was hoping that by doing that, he might be able to talk to her.
"Hello, good morning! May I speak with Kamiah?" Acwell said.
"Oh, sorry, sir! Kamiah is no longer working with us. She resigned already, and her last day was two days ago," the operator said.
"Oh, I see. Well, thank you. I did not know that Kamiah resigned."
"Not a problem, sir! Is there anything else I can help you with?"
"No. Thank you!"
Acwell sunk on the chair. Kamiah was not joking. She was serious about leaving.
He wondered where he could find her. Then, thought of calling her mom to see if she knows about it. But when she spoke to her mother, it seemed that she doesn't know either.
"Where the hell are you, Kamiah? You have never done this to me. And it's driving me crazy," he shouted with anger.
Acwell checked Kamiah's social media to see if she had posted something that would let him know where she was. Kamiah posted that she was watching "City of Angels" yesterday morning. The was the latest post she did. She doesn't usually post about something she was watching. So, he wondered why as he was thinking of whom to call to ask about her.
