Chapter 14: Chapter 14
Acwell and Kamiah did not talk about their flashbacks. They don’t want to talk about things that would upset them both. Instead, they spend the next three months trying to improve their family life. They find more time to do family outings for Kai. It had been months filled with joy and beautiful memories, especially for Kai, who now knows how to walk.
One morning, Catrina sends Acwell a message reminding him to clear his schedule for Amara’s birthday.
“Hi, Acwell! Amara will be here next month and will celebrate her second birthday on September 26. Please ensure to see her on that day.”
“Hello, Catrina. Remind me next month. I can’t request it as early as now.”
“Alright, Acwell. But, can you promise you will see her?”
“I cannot promise Catrina you know that working in a hotel, you will not have a fix off and shift. But I will try my best.”
“Is it that hard to find a way Acwell? You haven’t seen her since she was born and you can’t just promise for her birthday.”
“Catrina I already said I will try my best.”
“That’s not enough for her. How hard could that be?”
“Nothing is enough for you, Catrina. Now, I need to go back to work.”
“You always treat her like that. Even last time she was sick you did not even bother to call or answer my calls when you were just in a restaurant. That’s right Acwell, I saw you.”
“And so what if you saw me? I went there to eat. I guess I have all the right to do that, don't I? Look, Catrina, I am trying to do my responsibility for her. But you keep asking for more.”
“Because you weren’t there for her.”
“If you are talking about being with you and raising her together, I am sorry I cannot do that!”
“It’s because you cannot let go of that desperate woman that you decided not to focus on your daughter.”
“What are you trying to say? I did Catrina. I tried. But that was the worst situation I have been in. Let it rest I have enough.”
“No, I won’t because it was true. You tore us apart because of that woman.”
“You are the desperate one, not Kamiah. Don’t press on it anymore, I might decide not to help Amara if you won't stop.”
“Wow! You are defending her. It might be because she is very good in bed.”
Acwell stops replying. This is why he hates her. She loves to argue if things won’t go her way. He hates what she said about Kamiah. He wants to argue, but he knows it won’t stop.
Acwell tried his best to calm down because it might affect the way he handles his job. He also doesn’t want to come home angry that he might put his anger on Kamiah. He is trying to be better for her. The past three months were great. They did not argue, and he certainly doesn’t want to start another one. But he wondered did Catrina saw Kamiah that night?
After his shift, he looked at his phone and Catrina has three missed calls and a bunch of messages.
“How dare you Acwell! You chose that bitch over your daughter.”
“I wish I have never met you. You have ruined my life.”
“I hope you die. I will not rest until you do.”
“Amara deserves to have a better life and to have a father. She is beautiful and smart. Yet, you choose that bitch over her.”
“I hope karma hits you.”
So, h
Acwell was furious that it was good that she was not in front of him right now. He might slap her unintentionally. So he took a deep breath. Kamiah should not see him like this.
He came home to find Kamiah playing with Kai in the living room.
“Hello, my family!” he said.
“Hello, daddy!”
Kai was smiling and slowly walks towards him to hug him.
“I miss you!” Acwell said and kissed his son.
“How are you?” Kamiah asked.
“I am well, and you?”
“I am fine. My mom just called asking if we will go for a vacation on Kai’s birthday. She wanted to see him.”
“Let’s see. If we can get a vacation leave and if we have enough money, then maybe we could go home and celebrate his first birthday there.”
“That is what I told my mom, but she was insisting. You know she has not seen him.”
“Even my mom wants to see him. Let’s see hopefully we could.”
“I will try to ask permission from my boss as early as now and let see if he will allow me.”
“Yes, ask permission as early as now so that they can prepare to plan it. I will do the same. Let’s have dinner outside?”
“Alright!” Kamiah smiled.
“Are you off tomorrow?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Great! Let’s have a one-night stay in a hotel so we can take Kai to a swimming pool.”
While they were having dinner, Acwell’s phone rings. It’s Catrina.
“Someone’s calling,” Kamiah said.
“It’s nothing important, “Acwell said and turn his phone to silent mode.
When they reached home, Acwell has some messages from Catrina.
“Acwell, I am sorry! I know that I have said something that might upset you. But I just wanted you to treat Amara in a way that she won’t feel like she doesn’t have a father.”
“Also, can you please send some money to my mom for Amara this month? I am trying to save so that I will have enough money for next month when I pick her up, for her birthday, and to pay for her babysitter.”
“Please, Acwell I don’t want to touch my savings and as per my mom they are running out of money for Amara’s needs.”
Acwell was angry. She only knows how to be nice when she needs money. But for Amara, he sent and replied to her.
“I have sent 500 AED for her.”
“Really, Acwell! That’s it. It won’t last until the end of the month.”
He did not reply. He also wanted to save not only her.
