Chapter 720: Chapter 720
The temptation of Alma’s collection of liquor had failed, but Mira was still curious about other things there.
Determined to comb through and see everything, she opened the freezer next.
A frosty breeze was released from the freezer and Mira noticed that half of it was filled with crystal clear ice, almost invisible, and was most certainly used by Alma to chill down her drinks. The other half of the freezer was filled with various wooden boxes packed neatly.
Wondering what could be in them, Mira took one and opened it before letting out a cry of joy. A waft of vanilla rose from the box once the lid was removed.
The content of that wooden box was ice cream.
Mira was convinced that the ice cream picked by the empress of a large empire had to be a delicacy in its own right, so she quickly nabbed one of the boxes, looked for a spoon in the kitchen, and sat back on the sofa to try a spoonful.
“..! This richness, sweetness, and strong milkiness! This is no mere lacto ice, it’s ice milk!”
Mira attempted to appraise the flavor, which only revealed her cheap knowledge, as she licked clean the box of ice cream. Then she instantly stood up and ran over to the freezer to fetch another box.
The first spoonful from the second box had a fresh tartness and sweetness to it. The boxes themselves had looked the same on the outside, except for the small tag on the lid that read Yogurt. The freezer was filled with more than just vanilla ice cream.
Mira had no doubt that all of the other flavors were just as wonderful, and began to search for a chair to set up camp right in front of the freezer for easier access.
And then she caught sight of an even better option.
There was a small yet elegant balcony, past a large sliding window that at first she thought only gave a view of the blue sky, which would offer the best vantage point.
“Ohh, that feels so luxurious just looking at it!”
She could only imagine what it would feel like to sit there, the empress’ personal balcony in the palace, which was already on a higher altitude than the rest of the city. That view would surely make the ice cream taste even better.
Unable to contain herself, she ran over to the window, slid it over, and went out to the balcony.
Above she could see a sunshade followed by an endless blue sky, and as she lowered her gaze the cityscape finally came into view.
Breathtaking was the only possible way to describe the view of Ratnatraya from the palace. The buildings nearby were all elegant and decently tall, their walls painted with soft colors.
But there was almost a gradient as the distance grew and the city changed, with colors becoming more vibrant, and the buildings appearing more rustic but still newly built.
“Now this is what an empress should see.”
The view from Arkite’s castle had also been impressive, but it did not compare to the scale of Ratnatraya. At the same time, it was a reminder of the higher responsibility Alma’s shoulders carried.
As the empress, Alma likely saw that city as a reflection of herself… But Mira had no such thoughts, as she just shouted “This will be my special seat!” and happily sat there and enjoyed the view in bliss.
“Ah, there’s the venue for the whole tournament. I can see it so well from here…”
After yogurt, chocolate, banana, and more flavors of ice cream, Mira got bored of merely eating and started paying more attention to the scenery.
Straight ahead there was the large stadium for the tournament, which appeared like a colorful and vivid spot amidst the city. The various attractions that were being set up around it were also visible from afar, making it look more and more like an amusement park.
“Ohh, I hadn’t noticed those food stalls before. I’ll have to go eat there next!”
Mira closely examined the surroundings, getting a clear view despite being so many kilometers away. She was doing that with the Skill Distant View, coupled with her newly learned Concept Art Telescope, giving her around fifty times magnification, making it seem like she was right there on the streets.
She used that to search for food stalls that seemed appealing to her, while not forgetting to keep eating ice cream. The only downside was that Telescope required her to form a ring with her fingers to create a magnifying lens within, so she had to stop looking whenever she wanted to eat.
“Oh, I think that’s where they were hiding.” ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ novel[f]ire.net
As she continued eating the ice cream, she kept looking around the city, muttering that as she spotted a large mansion. That was where the assassins had been hiding, and where Mira captured Jorg.
“Ohoh, they’ve cordoned off the whole area already.”
Curious to see how that place was doing, she used Distant View and Telescope to examine the area, seeing that the building had been closed off by the guards. That barrier would likely remain in place until they were done searching through the entire mansion, as it had been used as a hideout by Ira Muerte and likely could provide various leads.
(Hm, and there she is…Cecilia I think. Hmhm, I see, so she’s still in charge of the search there.)
As she continued watching, she spotted a certain woman through one of the windows. Cecilia was a knight with a strong defense, in various senses. She was leading the search there, and seemed to be quite excited to do it.
“Sorry for taking so long, I’m finally done… Wait, I gave you permission to eat, but you’re clearly overdoing it now, you’ll upset your stomach, grandpa.”
