Chapter 679: Chapter 679
The two stared at each other as the boss slowly lowered his stance, gathering strength to act swiftly when the time came. Mira kept her rather relaxed stance, focusing on the small movements from the boss.
That all happened while the silver coin was still rising in the air, eventually reaching the peak of its assent and began falling.
And as if that was the real signal, all of the men there began moving at once, brandishing weapons they had kept concealed to lunge at Mira.
They had attempted to deceive Mira twicefold. The coin toss had been a signal for the rest of the men there.
She knew she was completely surrounded thanks to Life Sensing, and could only assume that the boss and his men had decided to overwhelm her with numbers after their first attack had failed.
A grin also appeared on the boss’ lips, almost mocking Mira for being deceived so easily and putting herself in a disadvantageous position.
But she did not seem shocked or taken by surprise in the least. Instead, she also smirked at almost the same time as the boss.
They were all capable, which made sense considering their rank so close to the boss. It took them hardly any time to get their hidden weapons ready, making it impossible for most people to react in time.
That did not apply to Mira. Almost at the same time as they all began moving, they all noticed tall figures standing behind them.
All of them were knights with black armors of a terrifying appearance. They were Mira’s Dark Knights, which she had fully equipped for combat, giving them a far more imposing presence. The moment they appeared, they sprang into action, swiftly moving to restrain the men.
Soon, the tables turned as their surprise attack was completely reversed by the Dark Knights. The attackers had charged blindly toward Mira, leaving their backs fully exposed. No matter how skilled they were, there was nothing they could do, Mira’s Dark Knights swiftly overwhelmed them.
One was knocked out cold from a strike of a Dark Knight’s warhammer, then another had both his knees shattered. One of them tried to fight back, only to end up thrown at a wall, caving it in as his bones broke and he let out a painful groan.
Everything started and ended in an instant, with all the men soon lying motionless on the floor.
Worthramble could not contain himself from saying that after witnessing how perfectly Mira had deflected their surprise attack.
“Heh, I wasn’t expecting it to go this well. Your power really is something impressive.” Check latest chapters at novel⚑fire.net
Mira was still watchful of the boss’ movements as she glanced around to see the result herself.
That had also been accomplished thanks to a new type of summoning, only possible when Worthramble was already summoned. Concealed Summoning was an ability that would mask over the whole summoning process, making it invisible until the summon acted.
She had used that to deploy Dark Knights all around the room, which remained imperceptible until they moved together with the men.
Only the boss had been spared, as he had been more attentive to his surroundings to make sure the surprise attack worked, and he was capable enough to fend off the incoming Dark Knights as well.
It was clear why he was the boss of the other assassins. He was at least as strong as a Rank A adventurer, or maybe even a step above, not even breaking a sweat when facing off against three Dark Knights.
Mira had also made her Dark Knights stronger recently, but that was still not enough to take down the boss.
The Dark Knights swung their heavy warhammers effortlessly, but that was not enough to catch the boss, who deftly evaded every single attack, even performing counterattacks with powerful Sage Arts.
Two more Dark Knights joined the fight, chaining their attacks one after another, but their speed could not match the boss, who endured through it and responded with a special attack of his own.
His first strike caved in their armor, and the second shattered them. The boss was not just a shrewd tactician, but had the Sage Arts to match.
It was only a moment after that, when he defeated a third Dark Knight, that he began to appear distressed. The shattered Dark Knights had faded away, revealing that they were not human opponents.
“Are you afraid of my Dark Knights now?”
Mira placed a hand on the boss’ shoulder and spoke with a boastful voice.
The Dark Knights were tall, wielded brutal weapons, had enormous strength, and had a terrifying presence to them. Meanwhile, Mira had the complete opposite appearance, creating a dissonance that distracted the boss.
Mira took advantage of that, successfully reaching that spot behind him.
That also signaled that the fight was over. There was a multitude of powerful Sage Arts one could use after taking hold of an enemy, something the boss knew better than most, making this situation no different from having a blade pressed against his neck.
“This is it then…you’ve managed to catch me off-guard. I surrender.”
He raised his hands as he said that, but as she was behind him, she could not see that his face was not one of resignation. He was merely pretending to give up, hoping to exploit the moment Mira moved to restrain him to turn things around one last time.
“Those are summons, aren’t they? I could tell earlier when I hit them. You really got us good, I thought you were only a sage. But that reminds me of some adventurer I’ve heard of recently, the Spirit Queen or something like that.”
His eyes were rapidly darting around the room as he tried to buy more time for himself, trying to find anything he could use.
Soon he found it, the lever to activate the hidden passage, which would collapse after three minutes of being opened. The explosives set up there were powerful enough to level the entire mansion, while also being simple enough that a strong impact would activate them without the need for the lever.
It was going to be a risky wager, but it was the only way out for the boss.
“Can you believe it? Out of everyone, it had to be a summoner who would take me down.”
He decided on his plan in hardly no time, so he continued talking about trivial things to conceal his intentions, while waiting for the moment when Mira would look away. But he had made a grave miscalculation. Mira was far more ruthless than her appearance would suggest.

With her hand still firmly holding his shoulder, she unleashed that attack without mercy, once again illuminating the whole room with a flash of lightning. Mira also knew when the ideal timing to break free would be, as she herself had done that many times in the past, and she would not take any chances with the boss.
And she was dealing with a ruthless assassin that deserved no pity, so she had no issue with completely knocking him unconscious before restraining him. She even felt it would be faster that way.
“I didn’t appreciate how you talked about summoners right there.”
Actually, her use of excessive force was because of something far simpler.
A burnt smell permeated the room as the boss’ tall body toppled over, his hands still raised.
