Chapter 678: Chapter 678
The man who intervened looked rather different from the boss, smirking widely as he looked Mira up and down, licking his lips in excitement.
“She might be wearing a really plain outfit, but look at her more closely, she’s definitely a looker under those clothes.”
He wielded a short club, a sleazy grin on his face as he suggested they capture Mira alive.
“Oh, so you’ve actually noticed my cuteness? You have good eyes, but I take no pleasure in being seen by a pervert like you.”
As he approached, his gaze seemed to slither up Mira’s body, from her feet all the way up, and Mira was clearly displeased. The man was the opposite, as that reaction only accentuated the look on his face.
“Ugh, he’s going all weird again. He always goes out of control when that happens.”
“And then he gives us all a bad reputation. I really wish he’d keep himself in check a bit more.”
The comments from the others there made it clear that the man had a really depraved nature, and even they were tired of him. There was only one reason why they would keep him around despite his fame, his strength.
“Oh? I know I can trust your eyes, so I’m sure there’s demand for girls like her out there too.”
Hearing that, the perverted man looked horrified and began to protest, as he would not be able to get his way with the girl without damaging their future merchandise.
“Why did it have to come to this… I saw her first…but I guess I’ve got no choice then. Boss, at least let me do the visual inspection later…”
He staggered a bit as he continued to walk toward Mira, almost drunk in his own lecherous delusions. He raised his club, licking in lips in delight, clearly becoming a walking representation of perversion.
(Unbelievable… This is the first time I’ve felt such strong vulgar emotions aimed at me.)
She had noticed men looking at her with such intentions plenty of times, but this was the first time she actually shuddered and felt disgusted by it.
“Just be a good girl and go to sleep now. Everything will be over when you wake up.”
He continued to grin as he slowly lowered his stance. His mind was overrun with disgusting thoughts, but that did not interfere with his fighting ability, as his form was impeccable without any openings.
It was impossible to read when he would move or what kind of attack he would use. He just kept that disgusting grin on his face as he slowly continued to step forward.
Mira quickly understood she could not afford to be careless around him and remained watchful, when something moved behind her, swift like an arrow. It was also positioned right in her blind spot, and flying straight at her.
That was all part of their plan. It did not matter if that was his true nature or just an act, as long as the perverted man could make his target uncomfortable and wary of him, the target would fixate on him while someone else attacked from behind.
Mira was disgusted like never before about that man’s attitude, which was obvious to the other men there, with one picking that perfect moment to attack.
The man that attacked held out his hand to grab Mira’s wrist, closing in the few meters separating them in an instant. And just when he was about to take hold of Mira’s wrist…his hand phased through it.
That strategy had never failed them before, so the attacker raised his voice in shock and disbelief. He had been tricked, the wrist he tried to snatch belonged to an illusion, the afterimage left behind by Mirage Step. Mira had not lowered her guard for a second.
Mira’s real body was just a step behind the illusion, putting her in the ideal spot to counterattack, as the man who rushed at her was off balance from his failed attempt.
Calmly saying that, Mira took hold of the attacker’s arm, and no matter how much he tried to shake her off, it was too late for him.
A purple flash illuminated the whole room together with a deafening sound, as a bright and powerful bolt of lightning passed through the man. Mira had used Lightning Grasp to knock him out cold, and after he fell to the ground, the only remaining sound in the room was an echo of thunder.
Then there was silence, the men there shocked by everything that happened in such a short time. They had thought their plan was working, until Mira turned things around halfway through, in a far more dramatic way than any of them expected.
“Ohh she’s a feisty one. That only makes me want to savor her more.”
The first one to react was the pervert, showing that those propensities had not been an act, as his face became even more indecent. At least, he still had the presence of mind to take a few steps back, understanding that Mira was stronger than they anticipated.
“Then why don’t you come and try to get a taste already?”
Mira held out the hand she had just used to take down one of them, taunting him as she narrowed her eyes and looked around muttering, “So who’s going to try sneaking up on me next?”
She was fully confident she would be able to thwart any sneak attacks they would attempt, which made the men in front of her begin to appear nervous. At least, until one of them stepped forward.
“I see you’re a Sage as well… which explains why you were able to evade an attack coming from your blind spot.”
It was the boss, who grasped the pervert’s shoulder and pushed him aside. He continued taking a few steps forward, and merely glanced at the other man that had been knocked out.
“And you’re quite an adept one as well. I guess this should be a reminder to not get deceived by appearances.”
The boss sounded rather miffed as he spoke to Mira, who just replied, “I mean, I didn’t even think there was a need to deceive any of you since I got here.”
“Heh, do you really think I’ll fall for your cheap provocation? But now I’m curious.”
The way Mira acted like there was no need to come up with plans to deal with them was starting to have an effect on them, especially on the boss’ pride.
“I won’t just take that and not say anything back. We’re both Sages, so let’s settle this with a proper duel.”
The boss suggested that, and even ordered his men to put down their weapons and step back. They soon obeyed, also releasing Worthramble to prove their intent to remain honorable.
“Hmm… Very well then. I’ll take you up on that offer.”
She knew she was dealing with underhanded assassins, but a duel was something she would never refuse, not to mention that it would provide a much more convenient solution.
Mira and the boss stepped to the center of the room, while other men stepped back near the walls around the two. Worthramble also moved to stand next to the door.
The stage was set and the two combatants stood facing each other, ready for the fight. The boss seemed rather confident in his own ability, as he looked straight at Mira while discarding his jamadhar to fight barefisted.
A tense atmosphere soon filled the room. Fresh chapters posted on N0veI.Fiɾe.net
“You, give us the sign to start.”
The boss spoke to the pervert, who came up to them with a silver coin and said, “Let’s do it the usual way then.”
That was something Mira had also seen plenty of times while she was searching through the street fights earlier. The pervert would flick the coin into the air, and the fight would start the moment it struck the floor.
