Chapter 59: Chapter 59
Joanna's POV
The first day I met him when he came home with Elvis from school.
How he fought a boy in my class for calling me a stammerer when Elvis wasn't present.
How he accepted my friends and joined us in our every activity. Even when it was against his class he would be on our side. This would make Elvis happy and angry sometimes.
I also recalled he would smile the moment he saw me and his eyes shine a bright color. As little as we were then, he always made me feel special.
He would always gang up with me during hide and seek games plus other recreations against the others and that day wasn't an exception.
From what my little brain could take note of, it was a good day, we all came back from school and did our homework, and then agreed to play.
A sudden rain came to be with heavy thunder and lightning. This made the power go out and the surrounding dark. The roads became slippery and the grounds muddy. But being the children that we were, we didn't care, we just wanted to play.
We were so happy when the rain stopped after we sang "Rain Rain Go Away" a popular rhyme we were taught in nursery school. We took it as a miracle and ran out to play after the drops had seized, despite the warnings from my parents to stay indoors.
I can also remember how Blake suggested hide and seek, the game we loved playing. Elvis chose to partner with Fahvour, Ifeanyi and Blake chose to hide together, while Francis chose me like always and this made me feel giddy inside.
Francis and I ran off, looking for where to hide, but he suddenly stopped me on the way saying he wanted to tell me something. When I did, he grabbed my face with his young hands and whispered in my ear "I love you Ana" and planted a two seconds kiss on my lips that had him beaming, and me blushing.
My little kid's brain didn't want him to see my blazing cheeks, and this warranted me to run ahead of him. I heard his giggles and footsteps behind me afterward, so I picked up a little more speed.
I was a good runner then and ran at my fastest, which had me forgetting Francis wasn't as fast as me. He tried to keep up while we giggled to ourselves, the game of hide and seek long forgotten as we were in our own little bubble.
I was still some steps ahead of him when I ceased as I heard a high-pitched scream. My nine-year-old eyes searched for him because we were a little far from the others so I couldn't call for help, plus it began getting more darker as evening approached.
Though focused on finding him, I didn't realize I was in the middle of the road until I heard a loud horn followed by his high pitched cry that made me turn in the direction of his voice before I smiled and felt the breath get knocked out of me afterward as everything went black.
"Make it stop!" I screamed and grabbed my head as I heard ringing in my ears or in my head. I couldn't tell at that moment, I just needed it to stop.
Too many images ran through my brain all at once, so many that my mind couldn't comprehend most of them, but it hurt. It hurt too much.
"Babe, babe." Frank's voice called in the background instead, it sounded so far away.
"Francis, make it stop!" I yelled as I hoped he would heed me.
I didn't hear him respond so I made a grab at where I guessed he would be and luckily I snatched his hand, but that didn't stop the images plus sounds from getting louder and crazier.
"Stop! Stop," I cried, in a bid to stop the darkness that threatened to engulf me.
"Please make it stop, please!" I pleaded, but it was no use as I felt the darkness swallow me whole and everything went Black for the second time in my life.
Frank's Pov
"Because I love you, Ana." I smiled, but she didn't respond, instead, she, sat there stunned, I could see it in her eyes. Then recognition flashed through it, after which her body went stiff.
"Hey," I called and took hold of her hand. It was as stiff as her body, and I doubted if she was even breathing.
"Make it stop!" She screamed abruptly, withdrawing her arm from mine and placed them on the sides of her head.
Alarmed, I stood up and went over to hold her. "Babe, Babe"
"Francis, make it stop," She cried and clenched my right palm.
"Make what stop?" I polled while tears unknowingly ran down my cheeks as I noticed her slip away from me.
"Please, make it stop, please," She kept muttering, her voice growing faint until I sensed her body go limp.
"Babe!" I cried, my ears starting to buzz, my chest constrict, to the point where I couldn't breathe.
I could hear voices in the background some seconds or was it minutes later as I gasped.
They were screaming, others whispering. I can recollect protesting when they took her away from me.
"Please don't take her away," I whimpered, as I sensed my body being placed on a stretcher, and afterward, everything went black.
