Chapter 48: Chapter 48

Joanna's POV

Anyways, I then shook my hair to let it flow after I had let it out of the hairnet and checked it out in the mirror to see I really looked good.

I applied some lip gloss and smiled at my reflection. Grabbing my purse, I trudged out of the room to see Elvis about to enter his but hesitated when he noticed me.

"Wow, sis!" He exclaimed, "Who do you wanna slay?"

"Frank," I smirked.

"Wait, Frank?" He interrogated, a shocked expression on his features.

"The one and only." I bobbed my head and made a move to walk ahead but he held me back.

"Mom told me you are doing this to get closure, what if it's not the type you expect?" He questioned, a worried look in his eyes.

"I'll live with it," I acknowledged and patted him on the shoulder.

"Good luck then, I gotta sleep," He spoke, while he tried to hold back a yawn that attained him a scoff from me.

"And you say I'm lazy," I voiced and twirled my back to go down the stairs.

"I need my beauty sleep, thank you very much!" He called behind me.

"I hear you," I replied over my shoulder, as I almost got to the bottom of the staircase.

On reaching the living room, I spotted Dad, who was watching the afternoon news, which he removed his eyes from when he heard the click of my heels.

"You look hot!" He called out, his mouth unknowingly wide open.

"Thanks, Dad," I let out and chuckled afterward as he kept gazing at me.

"My daughter is so gonna slay that dude," He blurted mischief dancing in his eyes.

I snorted at this and thought about how I ended up with such crazy people to call family.

"Hey!" He dubbed as I made my way to the door. Pausing to give him a glance he said, "don't tell your mum I said all those things."

"See you later Dad." I giggled as he lent me a wink.

"By the way, I'm taking your car," I told and beamed as he searched himself when I jingled the car keys in his face.

*********

I welcomed the cool air as I stepped into <Sweeties> a fast food restaurant I usually frequent, sometimes alone, other times with friends.

"Mehn, this is the life." I sighed in pleasure as my eyes spotted the different delicacies on display, most especially the cold stone ice cream someone passed my face with.

"Hey!" I heard someone yell in my location. "Stop standing there like a lost puppy and come over to the good side."

I turned around, curious as the voice seemed familiar, and stopped when I caught sight of Frank who was sat in the corner grinning at me.

"Must you yell?" I queried in a scoff as I waddled to his table.

"Is that how you greet the love of your life?" He pleaded dramatically, a palm placed on his chest, and gave a pout as I rolled my eyes at him. "No Coldstone ice cream for you then."

I gasped, especially when I discovered the beautiful strawberry ice cream he was dragging away from the table to himself.

"Noo!" I cried in anguish, dashing for it though unfortunately, he was too fast for me.

"Nah Nah Nah, you gotta say sorry." He snickered, his right hand raised high out of my reach.

This made me frown and use my secret weapon of puppy dog eyes and muttered a cute "Pwease" in the best baby voice I could muster at such short notice.

"Uggh fine," He groaned in irritation as he couldn't resist my charms and lowered his arm to place the delicious goodness back on the table. "Thank your stars you are cute."

I blew him a kiss in return, after which I dug into my ice cream and moaned in happiness as I tasted it.

"Don't- do- that- again," He growled and bestowed. me a seductive smile, "Except when am inside you fvcking you senseless."

I smirked at the anguish in his eyes that he tried to hide and snaked my index finger on his skin in a slow manner before I asked, "you miss that?"

"Stop," He croaked. "Or I might just cum right here."

I laughed, focusing my attention on my ice cream that was fast melting, despite the cool temperature of the restaurant.

"You said you've been good, while I've been a mess," He mumbled in a low voice.

"Yeah, I've been getting by." I nodded, as I took the last spoonful of ice cream, and silently thanked God for giving humans the ability to make such delicious goodness.

"So, why are we here?" He quizzed, as his face turned serious.

"I was getting to that," I spoke after I had cleaned my mouth with a napkin.

"Go on then." He groaned and sighed while leaning back on his chair. "Hit me."

"What happened?" I interviewed and stared him dead in the eye.

"Amy---" He started, but I cut him off.

"I don't care what her name is," I growled. "Just start from the beginning."

"Okay then," He said and inhaled before proceeding. "On that day of your birthday, wait two days before your birthday actually, I was cracking my head for a perfect birthday present to give you. I had many things planned, though I wanted to offer you something really good to be appreciated and also make you happy."

I urged him to continue, as a blush crept up my cheeks.

"There was little time. I mean,  your birthday was in two days and I didn't have the ideal gift yet," He voiced, scratching his head nervously.

"I got you the necklace and was practicing on my guitar for the song I was gonna play for you, but I still felt it wasn't enough,"  He continued. "Until later that day, you said something about your phone issues and it just clicked."

"So the next day, I went to the phone kiosks around, but I didn't find anyone that suits you." He laughed. "Silly I know, I mean does a phone need to suit anyone? But to me, it had to."

"Then I remembered a girl I dated about a while ago. She deals in phones and phone accessories like earphones, earplugs, chargers, and the rest," He mumbled.

"You know her name now though, it starts with an A and ends with a Y."

"I suggested her to Ifeanyi and he agreed we should go to her, but I felt a bit hesitant as she is a whole total bitch, heartless and clingy."

"Wait, why did you go to her when you knew she was bad news?" I disputed, not able to believe him yet.

"Just listen to me," He released a breathe, pain visible on his face as it dawned on him I wasn't believing him yet. "I had no other choice, your birthday was in a day and I had nothing ideal for you."

"We made the transactions, and I told her to waybill it because she doesn't stay around here but in PortHarcourt where we lived but the Fowl__

I cut him off with a chuckle.

"Yeah, I called her that." He affirmed nodding. "The fowl said she would be busy and asked me to come to take it myself, and this was now a day to your birthday which meant the next day was your birthday."

I scoffed at his way of explaining as if I was a child. "I know what you meant."

"Yeah, let's all assume that," He blurted sarcastically. "I took Ifeanyi with me so as to have company and we boarded the next moving bus to Portharcourt."

"We arrived around 4:00 pm and went to her said location. On reaching there her secretary or whatever, invited us to wait for her." He grumbled. "We told the secretary that we didn't come to see her but just came to pick up our product, to which she asked us our name. After we told her,  she said in a robotic voice <There is no phone here written under your name, rather a note here states I should contact her when you arrive>"

"The conniving bitch!" I hissed, as I was beginning to understand what went on that day.

"Yup, my thoughts exactly. Ifeanyi exploded and pounded his hands on the desk saying <Then call her you empty brain>. I just patted his shoulder and urged him to calm down while I called her myself." He sighed.

"She picked and was like <Darling are you waiting for me?> in which I swallowed my curse words and was like <Yeah, where the fvck are you? She giggled at this and conveyed that she was busy and would be back in two hours."
