Chapter 29: Chapter 29

Joanna's POV

"Oh shit!" I clamored while I gazed down at the screen.

After much deliberation between myself, I concluded that I should check my messages first.

The first was from Tenda

Babyboo:

Merry Christmas crazy bitch,  It read.

Hey, you aren't replying.

Haven't woken up? And don't lie, I know you can still be sleeping.

I rolled my eyes at her messages and decided to put her out of her misery by texting her back.

Merry Christmas to you too baby, and no, I'm not still sleeping, I just came back from church.

Harmony:

Merry Christmas bestie and why aren't you answering your phone?

By the way, expect me soon.

I groaned after I read that,

See? That was why I said it was a good thing I didn't change my dress.

You too bestie, and I know you are coming, Uninvited I replied while I rolled my eyes.

Tony:

Merry Christmas foodie.

See you soon

Merry Christmas sweetie, and yeah see you. I texted back, with a smile on my face.

Ifeanyi:

Merry Christmas partner I'm coming to get you later

Haha I know, Merry Christmas dear. I laughed as I responded.

Blake Bro:

Merry Christmas sis, we gonna have fun later.

Merry Christmas bro, yeah, real fun. I replied.

Mystery guy:

Merry Christmas sweetheart. Wish I could see you today

I blushed a little when I read that before replying

Awwn me too

After I was done replying to everyone's messages, I logged out of the messaging app and clicked on the dial icon to check the calls I missed.

Francis (4 missed calls.)

"Oops, I'm screwed." I sighed to myself and fidgeted.

Why do I always screw things up, I've always complained of how I wanted someone whom I could look forward to their calls and messages, but when I had someone close to that, I was slowly screwing things up.

As I was done fidgeting and overthinking things, I said a silent prayer to God and dialed his number, my index finger slowly tapping my lap as it rang.

Hy? I squeaked after my phone vibrated in my ear as it indicated he'd picked up.

"Well if it isn't the girl who didn't pick my calls." I heard him scoff which made me groan because I knew this was coming.

"I'm sorry," I pleaded.

"Uh uh, keep talking," He taunted.

"I'm really really sorry," I whined

"Why should I believe you, give me reasons." I could hear the disbelief in his voice as he spoke.

"It's a long story." I sighed.

"Try me," He responded while I imagined him raise one of those long brows of his.

Damn, how I love that dude. I thought.

Wait, did I really love him? We had grown more attached since we agreed to be more than friends about two weeks ago but that was so short a period to conclude you loved someone.

"Hello, still here waiting." He said in a sing-song voice that snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Sorry dearie," I apologized once more. "I woke up late and I didn't eat because I had to rush to get ready for church or mom would start speaking in tongues and you know we all don't want that, so I just had my breakfast/lunch now and decided to check my phone, and that was when I saw I missed your calls, I'm really sorry hunnie"

"Okay then, let me believe you, and that's because I know how your mom can be if she begins speaking in tongues. I can't forget that day even if I tried, damn! I was scared shitless." He spoke, a slight shiver in his voice as he said that.

"If it were me who was yelled at, trust me I would be halfway to China with my legs reaching my head, choi! I won't cross that woman ever!" He blurted, while I giggled, as I too recalled that day clearly.

It was a bright dusty day, and I think Elvis wanted to prove a little stubborn by not washing mom's car as she had instructed him to, and to top it off, he missed cleaning up the kitchen after he had cooked the instant noodles he loved so much to the point where it became weird.

One thing I'd learned about mom was that you should never and I mean never, ever leave her kitchen dirty no matter what,  because If you do, please once you hear her footsteps quickly appear in the kitchen and get it cleaned in seconds or like Frank said "be on your way to China" Because I wouldn't be responsible for whatever happens to you afterward.

So unfortunately for Elvis, He didn't know mom was coming home early from a hangout session with her friends that was supposed to end in the night.

He was on his way out of the messy kitchen after he dumped his dirty plate in the sink after use, emphasis on dirty

It was the same instant mom walked to the kitchen to get a glass of water when she noticed the dirty dishes. She exploded, letting out a loud yell before she started speaking in tongues.

Like I said before I'm a half-cast, so mom isn't a Nigerian. She is from South Sudan so she tends to speak curses in her native language being Arabic whenever she gets extremely angry.

So, when we say she's speaking in tongues it kinda means she's extremely angry, and it was at that moment I strolled in with Frank to see Elvis who ran out of the kitchen and immediately hid behind him for cover, the exact time mom came out of the kitchen with a pestle and an angry scowl that had both of them running behind me this time to use me as a shield.

"Yeah, the day you ran because of a woman," I continued.

"Babe, If you see an extremely angry woman of 49 years running towards you with a pestle and speaking in tongues, what would you?" He questioned.

"The same thing you did, run!" I snickered as I thought back to how long it took me to calm her down and not kill Elvis.

"Yep, I guessed so, a beautiful Christmas to you dear," He spoke, and I was sure I could hear the smile in his words.

"You too hunnie," I acknowledged.

"See you later, and please DM me whenever your mom is that angry so I would keep my distance." He warned.

"Haha okay dearie, later," I voiced out before he cut the call.

Not long after, I heard the front door open followed by a familiar voice.

Is that? I thought when the voice sounded closer and clearer.

"The goat is here!" Harmony exclaimed as he dragged a huge duffel bag into the living room.

"What the!" I exclaimed, excited at whom it should be, and stood up.

"Where is she, where is my favorite bitch in the whole world, where is she!" A voice I cherished and missed so much called, followed by an average, curvy brown-skinned girl.

To those who are confused, that was the voice of my Favourite cousin, Dora Alex

"I'm here bitch." I beamed, and I tugged her in for a hug after she reached me.

Dora is so cute with her baby doll face which consisted of light brown eyes that had golden flecks in them, a slightly round nose, light pink plump lips, and fluffy cheeks. She was curvy in the right places plus a nice ass that guys drooled over.

"How is the bum growing." I teased.

"Damn bitch it's growing fine! Do you know how many guys nearly had an accident because of this?" She quizzed, a smirk on her lips as she turned around to show me the said ass that indeed seemed bigger and more prominent due to the tight-fitting black gown she was donning.

"It certainly looks bigger." I nodded in approval and giggled afterward.

"Anyway enough about the bum bum." She chuckled. "How have you been doing baby girl, Harmony here tells me you landed a hot stuff."

"Yep!" I grinned, "He's damn hot and I'm proud of it."

"Heck who wouldn't, if he's half as hot as your bestfriend described then trust me you should be proud." She smiled.

"He's way hotter than that." I winked.

"Speaking of the bestfriend, shit! that boy has gotten hot! how did this happen." She blurted, after which she licked her lips like a hungry lion.

"You mean? Eew!" I gagged as I realized what she meant.

"I'm here you know?" Harmony asked accompanied by an eye-roll.

"Uh come on dude, you've got hot! I have to say it." She shrugged in response.

"Dora, language!" Mom scolded. This made us all turn to see both her and dad saunter down the stairs and head in our direction.
