Chapter 58: Chapter 58
“Good morning!” Ferry happily greeted us as soon as she entered our house. “Geez! I still can’t believe that we are now neighbors.” She roamed her eyes around the place and put the food on the table. “Are you sure you don’t want me to help here?”
I shook my head and continued fixing the sofa cover.
It has been a week since I introduced Enver to Millie. And they used those days to bond together. They often go out and visit a lot of amusement parks around the city.
And to focus all his attention on our daughter, without thinking of anything else, he filed for one week's leave from his job and let Mikea handle everything.
Since I don’t want to spoil their moments, there are times when I didn’t go with them and I used that time to take care of everything I needed for the house that I bought.
And this is the day we finally move here.
I arrived here first to take care of the furniture while Enver went to the park to pick up Millie. He was also the one who took our clothes to our previous apartment.
And this house is located in front of Ferry’s house. So she might always come here whenever she has free time.
“What about your apartment?” She sat on the sofa. “You still have a contract there, right? Did you drop your lease there?”
“I already paid the whole amount stated in the contract,” I said. “And to be honest, I still intended to keep it. I haven’t taken my other things there just in case I need someplace where I can sleep, especially when I have to take care of something for my canteen.”
“Oh. You will also not have plans on dropping your canteen.”
I shook my head. “It might not generate huge income but it can sustain the bills so I plan to keep it. Besides, I feel bad for the employees of the factory near there. The canteen is the only place near their work and it is affordable for them so it might also affect them if I take it out.”
“Well, if your employee there can take care of it, then I guess it is okay to keep it,” she said. “But you are still going to continue your job at Raiden?”
I nodded again. “Millie is going to start attending school this coming school year and you know that I am not used to just staying at the house. So it is better for me to help Enver at Raiden rather than being stuck here.”
She smiled even wider as she stared at me. “It is good to know that you think about everything you do carefully now that you have decided to come back to Enver.”
I sat in front of her and stared at her. “So? What is really bothering you?”
She frowned. “W-what do you mean?”
I sighed. “I know you, Ferry.” I pointed at her. “Something is bothering you but you are thinking twice whether to tell it to me or not.”
Her smile slowly faded away as she stared at me. Maybe she was trying to confirm if I really noticed the changes in her but in the end, she just sighed and rested her back on the sofa. “Fine. I do really have a problem.”
I raised my eyebrow at her. “And what is it?”
She sighed again. “First, I want to say sorry for not telling you about this sooner,” she said. “You have been thinking a lot of things these past few months and I don’t want to add worries to you. So, please don’t get mad, okay?”
I nodded. I know that if I don’t have something to take care of, she will not hesitate to tell me everything that bothers her.
“I just got married,” she said. “Well, it is actually an arranged marriage. You know, a marriage of convenience to formally seal the merging of my father’s company together with my husband’s company.”
“Oh.” I don’t know how to react. I am shocked but other than that, I don’t even know what to say to her.
I mean, I know that her family has that kind of tradition. They believed in an arranged marriage because her parents were married for the same reason as she has.
But from what I know about her, I can’t believe that they managed to convince her to do something that was out of her character.
She once said before that she would only marry the man that she loves and she swore that her father would never be able to control her.
“I know,” she said. “It is shocking to know that Dad managed to control me into agreeing with that marriage but I don’t really have any choice. He threatened me that if I didn’t marry that man, he would push Freya as my substitute.”
I gasped. “But Freya was just eighteen years old.”
She nodded. “And that guy is almost thirty. I don't want to put my sister into that kind of situation so I give in to what our father wants. I married that man.”
She may be a rebellious woman who did everything she wanted in life but the love she has for her siblings is deep. She would do everything to protect them, even sacrificing her own happiness just for them.
That is why it made everything clear why she agreed on something she didn't really want to do before.
Though I also know that her father was not that bad.
That merging is probably too important so he chose to become a bad guy and put them into that kind of situation. They must have been desperate at that time and it is the only way to solve their problem.
“What is your problem with your marriage?” I asked. “Do you want an annulment?”
She shook her head and let out a deep breath. “Annulment is not an option, Milan. We only got married last year and if I leave him, it will affect our company.”
“So?”
“I am pregnant.”
My eyes widened as I heard that. “W-what?”
She sighed. “I am pregnant and of course, the father of this child is my husband. But when we did it for the first time, we were both drunk so you could say that it was just an accident. He might not want it so I don’t want him to know.”
Oh my god!
I don’t really know what to tell her. I mean, having a child is a good thing.
Millie was also not in our plan when I conceived her but she changed everything in my life when she was born which is why I manage to continue living a happy life.
But it is also a huge responsibility.
Taking care of another human being is an endless job and it is not something that we can just learn in some school. So it is a challenge for everyone.
Especially to those who just got married without feelings involved. It might affect their child as it grows.
“But you were drinking a lot—” I didn’t continue what I was about to say when I realized that the last time she drank a lot of alcohol was when they brought me to a bar. After that, I never really saw her drink again, though she was still visiting a bar with Castiel. “Did Castiel know about this?”
She nodded. “We were only at the bar to talk since that is the only place where I know I can talk about this freely. But don’t worry, I stopped drinking alcohol as soon as I learned that I was pregnant. But there are times that I pretended to be drunk and wasted since a lot of people knew that side of me just to make sure that no one would notice that I am pregnant.” She caressed her belly. “We may not have planned this but I promise to myself that I will not harm this little human being inside me.”
“You want to give birth to the baby?”
She nodded immediately as she stared at her belly with a sweet smile. “I witnessed how Millie changed your life when you had her. Though I am not really expecting the same thing to happen to me, I know that having a child is not a bad thing.”
From what I can see, I am sure that everything will be alright for her. The love in her eyes as she looked at her belly is enough for me to know that she will take care of herself and the baby once she gives birth.
“It might be a challenge but I will not give up,” she said. “Even though her father and I don't love each other, I will still give a lot of love to her.”
“Oh, well.” I breathe deeply. “Congratulations.”
She looked at me and smiled. “Thank you, Milan. Though I will ask for a lot of advice on how to take care of my baby, okay? I want to make sure that she will stay healthy.”
I laughed and went to her. “Don’t worry, I will help you.” I sat at the armrest of the sofa and put my arms on her shoulder. “You should talk to the OB as soon as possible first so you will start taking some vitamins. I’ll call the doctor that you recommended to me before. She was really helpful to me when I was pregnant with Millie.”
“Can you come with me?” she asked. “Castiel is busy for the next few days because of the launch of her new magazine so she can’t be with me for my first check-up.”
“Sure.” I caressed her hair. “I will take care of setting the appointment.”
She looked up at me. “Do you think I should tell this to my husband?” she said. “I decided to keep the baby no matter what happens but I still feel scared whenever I think that he might not accept the child because we didn’t love each other.”
“Do you really think you can hide your pregnancy with him?”
“I am actually planning to do what you did,” she said. “I want to run away from him and hide our kid from him since I have this feeling that he will not accept her.”
I laughed. “And you saw the result of what I did, right?” I said. “Do you want to make the same mistake as I did?”
She was stunned and sighed as she realized what happened after doing that kind of stunt. “I am just scared.”
“It is okay to be scared, Ferry,” I said. “I have been there. But I learned something after those decisions that I made in the past.” I went in front of her and looked her straight in the eyes. “Communication is necessary when it comes to relationships. You might not love each other, both of you are still married. So to make things work out for the both of you, for your company and your kid…” I pointed at her belly. “You have to talk about these things with each other.”
“You are saying that I should tell him about the child?” she asked. “What if he doesn't want the child?”
“But what if he wants her and he accepts her?” I backed her. “You are going to do the same thing that I did before? But did you forget how sad my daughter was before because she didn’t get to meet her father sooner? Are you going to deny your child the complete family that she deserves because you are scared?”
She didn’t say anything. But from the looks in her eyes, I am pretty sure that she finally realized that what she was thinking would only make her and her kid suffer.
“You and Castiel once said to me before…” I added. “Think about your child first before assuming things that you are not even sure about.”
She sighed.
“Talk to him, Ferry,” I said. “That is the only advice that I can give to you to make sure that your child will be happy.”
