Chapter 44: Chapter 44

Chapter 18

Stopping his fork in mid bite just as his eyes peered up at me from his plate of food. A puzzled and uncertain look started etch all over his face as he tried to understand my words with one arched eyebrow. Mouth wide open to welcome the taste of pleasure that was almost in its grasp. Only to never quite make it to its desired destination. Suspended in a timeless agonizing wait.

I breathed a sigh of frustration at not fully understanding it myself gently shaking my head in disbelief. Pushing the food around on my own plate with the tip of my fork as I thought intently on how this could be. Believing something more is happening and that something more fiercely dangerous is coming. Soon at that.

“Tell me again how you saw… who was it? Your mother? I thought you said she died when you were an infant?” Johnathon questioned my recounts of the dream I told him from last night. His fork was still frozen in time at the precise distance from his mouth awaiting its arrival.

“According to Selene, and from me being an orphan my whole life, she is??” My own understanding started to leave me as we spoke. Disbelief and uncertainty now overtaking the memory I once held onto as real as life itself.

“Mmhmm” was all his voice could conjure up. Now the fork lucidly dropped on the plate everso perfectly positioned in front of him. His eyes looked intently into mine as he folded his hands together in front of him.

“Well. What else did she say... explicitly? And how exactly do we prepare for this… you know… battle?” he questioned , wanting to understand without any doubt. But I could tell he was finding it hard to not. Waving a hand around in a circular motion, sitting back in the dining room chair. His arms extended outward as his palms looked up, fingers relaxed, before nonchalantly crossing them across his chest. His muscles flexed from the tightness of the fabric holding them in place.

“Well. She said that Shamira is dangerous and too much like our aunt who killed her, my, our? entire family just to be on the throne?” unsure of what to call them, relaxing a bit in my own chair leaning back, searching his features and eyes as I spoke with more confidence of my dream state memory. Or vision? I’m still not sure which really. But it felt way too real to have been just a dream or vision.

It had to be real. Didn’t it?

‘Of course it was real.’ Karin stated boldly in my mind. Taking a deep breath while closing my eyes. Opening them I started to explain again looking down at my hands while trying to avoid straight eye contact.

“We must be vigilant in our preparations and tasks because Shamira will stop at nothing to get what she wants.” pausing briefly before looking back up to meet his eyes and continuing. “I was also given more confirmation that I indeed was gifted all of the elemental powers to help protect us and our home from my sister and her army.” slowly releasing a breath that was hesitant to be free.

“I am to practice and harness my giftal powers as part of me for full use…”

“We’ve been doing that Timber. Tell something that isn’t something we’ve been doing.” he stated rather matter-of-factly interrupting me. “OK. Well...she said, you…” smirking as I recalled her words about my mate. Making me giddy, proud and honored to have been mated with such a wolf. My heart skipping beats in a tantrum of excitement of her words of affirmation of him as a small blush washed over my face.

‘Proud cause we have the best mate ever!’ Karin purred.

“What about me?” he questioned curiously as his brow turned up slightly while tilting his head, smiling mischievously. His posture slightly more upright with intrigue than before demonstrating my words started to strike an increased interest in him.

“Well, you, she said. Was strong and trustworthy.” pausing briefly as I acted like it was no big deal whatsoever and picked up a bite of food from my plate and neatly placed it in my mouth.

Inside I felt like I was glowing with love and admiration. I could feel my face starting to ignite with pride as it heated to blush more fervently. Sitting just a little bit taller than I was. I peered at him over my fork as I continued to place food in my mouth waiting for his reply.

He looked at me with an expression I could not quite place but it looked as though it was mixed with a plethora of emotions. I saw a hint of shock, pride, confusion, admiration and love behind them as he turned gently to the side as if pondering them.

“Is that all?” he questioned as he tried to compose himself around me. All the while holding direct eye contact with me. Although, I could see a small smirk like, smile trying to make itself known.

“No. Something was said like… I don’t know.” now teasing him with her compliments letting him fester a little. “ Well something about how you are also destined to do great things with me by your side and we should not only lean on each other for help but protect each other too.” Waving my fork around a bit at the comment like we were discussing the weather. Taking another bite of my food, smirking.

My face suddenly saddened as I recalled more and Johnathon noticed. Now gaining his full attention while his features morphed into great concern, his wolf, Bane, came to the front seeing me in such a state. I can only imagine the conversation between them.

“What’s wrong? What else was said?” he bellowed. Playing set aside with the seriousness of the next part. I couldn’t help but blurt it out in great concern.

“We need to protect the boys at all costs! Shamira is going to try to kill them… and me because of the elemental gifts given to us.” a lone tear escaped as I thought of losing the boys trying to hold the back more trying to escape. My heart mourned for the future.

Jonathan was by my side in mere seconds as he fell to his knees engulfing me in a tight fitting hug rubbing my hair as he nuzzled me into his chiseled chest. Soothing me. Karin purring from the consoled touch of our mate. Howling of the thought of losing our boys.

“And we will Timber. Don’t you worry, my love, we will. With every last breath in me you both will be protected.” he cooed, making Karin swoon at his outspoken desire to protect us with his life.

“Bane will too.” he says with a slight eye roll telling me Bane made him say it. Making me giggle slightly at their interaction with tears one by one pushing their way from my eyes.

“I love mate.” Karin purred.

Looking up gently to meet his eyes I smiled as he looked down into my tear glossed orbs. Giving me the sweetest of kisses holding on tight as if to say I will never let you go.

“We can have victory over this battle Johnathon.” his eyes boring into my soul as I looked up at him.

“What do you mean my love?” he whispered into my ear as he nuzzled my neck once more. Inhaling my scent deeply, causing Karin to swoon and my knees go weak.

“My mother, Queen Isralia said this would be the battle of all battles. If we stay faithful, steadfast and vigilant… and also very cautious because of Shamira, we can indeed win this battle.” I could feel his understanding sweeping throughout him as he held onto me tighter.

“If she said it, then I believe her. And we will, my love… trust and believe me for that.” releasing me briefly so he could look deep into my eyes. Cradling my face with his hands, passionately pressing his lips on mine.

He knew what I was telling him to be true and honest. Slightly releasing me from his loving grasp as he held onto my shoulders, he looked deep within my eyes and smiled.

“Let’s prepare all of our territory for this ‘battle of all battles’ then shall we? Everyone who can, will fight to protect you, the boys…. and our pack territory from this undeterring danger coming.” spoken like a true Alpha.

Pulling me back into his strong warm embrace cocooning his arms around my back, he kissed me sweetly but with great need desperation.

“It’s a good thing we have been training your new found gifts then isn’t it?” He said against my lips.

“Sure is… and the boys.” relishing in his warmth.

“So, how do we prepare the pack and the warriors?” causing him to move back from me. This one movement made a coldness replace the heat his body shared, causing me to have a small chill.

“I’m not sure exactly since they themselves do not have elemental gifts as we do.” sliding backwards into the chair next to me as I spoke.

“We could have you and the boys train with them? That way they can see what they could be up against. Give them practice fighting the magic?” he said like it was the most obvious thing to say.

“You’re wanting to have them train with the boys?” tilting my head sideways looking intently at him at the mention of the boys training.

“With our supervision of course?” he said like I should have known that. “We aren’t going to let them hurt them… it’ll be more for them to practice with the boys instead of the other way around. You said they are getting really good with those gifts… didn’t you?”

“Well yeeess… they are actually.” thinking about what he’s saying. “In fact, it would be a great defensive and offensive strategy. The boys could help from afar if needed and the warriors need to know how it feels to be enchanted in their gifts.” smiling at my brilliant mate.

Standing abruptly, I started pacing around the chair while thinking some more. There has to be a way to use our gifts for them as a weapon. But how? Johnathon standing watching curiously and intently at the internal battle happening in my mind.

‘Hey Karin?’ seeking my wolf for advice now.

‘Yeesss?’ she said like she was waiting for me to call on her.

‘Do you think it may be possible to put some of the essence of the elemental powers into a weapon?’ voicing an almost impossible idea.

‘Possibly… won’t know until we try right?’ I could feel her smiling widely with the thought of helping our pack with new weaponry.

‘Right!’ turning back to Johnathon as he stared at me like ‘what did you just come up with’ look. My face transfigured into excitement at the revelation that could be. A twinkle in my eyes and a smile as wide as my ears was plainly evident.

“What if we try to make new weapons with some elemental enhanced features?” I stated as if it was an obvious choice, while he looked on curiously.

“What do you have in mind, my love?” smirking as he was more than interested in where this train of thought was leading.

“What if we could somehow put a little essence of our gifts into the new stealth uniforms for the men?” his interest was really peaking now as his brow lifted. “This way they would be protected if hit by her energy force. Or at least enough to stun them instead of severely injure or kill them?”

“Well? I guess we had better get started then shouldn’t we?” Johnathon stood up, reaching out his hand for me to take.

“OH!! I know how I heard Bane during training.” saying as he grabbed my hand and paused slightly before pulling me to him.

“And how was that little Luna?” a sultry voice making its way to my ears.

“When I completely become one with the energy…” cooing at him.

“Well then, no time like the present to explore those energy possibilities..” giving me a wink as he pulled me even closer kissing me while teleporting us to the Southern border where the training and engineering facilities were.
