Chapter 30: Chapter 30
Chapter 4
~Timber’s POV~
I keep having these nightmares about a woman who looks identical to me. Well identical, except for her eyes and hair. She has one blue eye and one green eye. Her hair is red. Like a fiery crimson flame. Her words and eyes taunt me in the sleeping hours. Recently she has been invading my thoughts during the daylight hours as well. I am starting to think she is the voice I heard before…. at the lake with the boys a week ago…. and now? I continue to hear and see her.
I haven’t told Johnathon about her invasion because I don’t want to worry him. He does not seem to hear her in my mind, even with the mate bond. Somehow she slips in unnoticed by him. A setback I am currently thankful for at the moment.
He has been dealing with a lot lately with other packs trying to kill each other over silliness. This one wants more land from that one. That one wants others to stop treading on their property as an alleyway. One would think an Alpha would control their own, but these are pathetic Alpha’s seaking others to do all the leg work they should be doing themselves. Who doesn’t keep border control lookouts?
I walked up the stairs to hear about one pack getting upset because the Alpha’s daughter found her mate on her sixteenth birthday. Not a big deal really, we are all destined to find our true mate around that age.
Most wolves want to find their mates. We are taught at an early age that the mate bond can and will make you want your mate no matter what. Well, sometimes not entirely. Some wolves have been able to resist the bond to continue doing the most unthinkable against their true mate. That was the case for me… being rejected by my true mate. I was one of the fortunate ones to get a second chance mate.
The thing is she found him while in town having a girls day, outside of her territory nonetheless. It happens. So what… get over it.
Just so happened though, her true mate… well he was in a neighboring pack also visiting the small town and she didn't want to go with him. He was fated to be the next Beta when his father stepped down. And she tried to deny the Goddess’ pairing.
Her reasoning for not going? Well, she thinks his pack smells funny. Granted they do have a rather interesting scent which makes them known to all, but to start a pack war over it? Goodness, send her over and give her some nose plugs and tell her to get over it. But, like I said… wolves getting upset over silliness.
Our pack is not in charge of all the other packs, but because we are the strongest and after killing Kronin, the outlying packs heard about our secret and now look to us for assistance. Johnathan doesn’t mind, but he does get annoyed with the silliness it brings from them.
Why doesn’t the Queen and King of the lycans take care of this nonsense? Because we are a warrior pack made to protect the weaker ones. They only seem to get involved when absolutely necessary. Please… taking care of all pack business is their business.
My old pack had eventually heard about what had happened too. My rejected true mate, Mark, even tried to come and claim me back about a year after I was traded. Jonathan was not having it though. Mark tried using his Gamma influence which was funny because my mate is an Alpha… trumps a Gamma any day, time or existence. I couldn’t help but laugh at his ignorant pompousness.
~Memory~
“She belongs to me!” Mark growled. Fangs baring and claws ready. His wolf was half taking over.
“You really think I am going to let you… some little pup… come to my territory and take what is mine?!” Johnathon’s eyes a darker shade. Voice deeper as Bane takes hold.
“She is my true mate… not yours!” growls were loud and crowds started to form to see who would actually confront their Alpha.
“He is no match for Alpha… I don’t know what this crazy wolf is trying to do. He’s already lost here.” I heard a few members say as I walked towards the center of the commotion.
“Right? I’ve trained with him myself. That puppy’s about to get killed!” A few warriors spoke out in return.
“He obviously doesn’t know Bane, his wolf.” another said while chuckling to each other.
Watching the both of them circle each other. Oh Goddess this won’t be good if they fight. Not only is Johnathon twice his size. But he’s an older wolf that has Alpha blood running through him. Not to mention some of my elemental powers.
Johnathon was calm and calculating as he eyed the half inexperienced wolf attempting to play a caring and possessive mate. I could see Bane coming further out as claws extended ever so slightly. Not quite making a half shift.
“You rejected her! She is MINE and I will protect what is MINE!” my heart swooned over his words. Johnathon’s claim over me. Chills and tingles swept through my entire existence at those words. I swear I pooled in my panties.
Bane had come to the surface as Johnathon half transformed ready to kill him for threatening to take me away.
“Alpha! Please do not harm him. He is just a stupid pup. Please let me take him back to my territory.” Alpha Marcus pleaded for Mark’s life when he saw Johnathon make the half transformation.
“Consider this my mercy then and you had better take this pup from here quickly and NEVER let him come near my pack, territory or mate again!” Bane bellowed his threatening promise. “If I so much as smell a hint of him he will die without hesitation!.” I heard Bane finish trying to calm himself before ripping him apart right there in front of everyone without success.
Alpha Marcus nodded to his Beta and current Gamma, Mark’s father, for them to gather Mark as he positioned himself between Bane and Mark slowly. Never taking his eyes off Bane just in case. “Thank you Alpha. Very sorry for the intrusion.” bowing his head the whole time while keeping his eyes on him.
Bane breathing heavily, growling treacherously, kept his eyes on Mark ready to strike at any sign of wrong movements.
“If I ever see or smell you around my pack or anyone in my pack again I will gut you like the pig you are!!” Bane bellowed out as they took him away.
“I have never seen Alpha take mercy like that so quickly.” a warrior stated from behind me.
“I have. But only because of Luna Timber.” another replied. Looking at the other warrior he continued with, “She’s really helped tame his wolf, Bane a little. Thank the Moon Goddess.” smiling at the thought.
~Memory End~
Just the memory of his willingness to fight for me still makes me giggy in delight and my heart swoons. It was kind of sexy. We mated a lot that night to say the least. Something about my big strong protective mate makes me and my wolf go love-sick crazy.
Alpha Marcus had to intervene on his future Gamma’s behalf so Johnathon wouldn’t kill him and apologized profusely to both of us for not only Mark’s behavior but how he and the pack treated me while in his care.
He said he knew something was different about me but was afraid of me at the same time. Especially when organized rogues constantly came onto pack land looking for someone.
He himself didn’t treat me badly, but he also did nothing to those that did. He knew and let them go without punishment. In Johnathon’s book it’s the same thing.
Alpha Marcus said by the time the third prisoner stated what they were there for under interrogation, he finally put the pieces together and knew it was me they were looking for. Not sure if I completely believe him or not, but he actually said he traded me for my protection… not just the packs. I couldn’t believe my ears.
Johnathon called him a coward and kicked him off the property too. Later I found out Johnathon keeps protecting my old pack because he knew it would hurt me more if he let something happen to them. He says Alpha Marcus and my old pack still deserve to have our protection even if he did things wrong. Johnathon says it’s not the entire community's fault their Alpha is an idiot.
