Chapter 42: Chapter 42
David’s P.O.V.
For two months, I had been ecstatic and contented with my relationship with Helena. All the days I spent with her were absolutely wonderful, that I couldn’t help myself but be proud. I was floating in euphoria, and it was as if I had nothing more to ask.
She became an inspiration for me to further excel in my studies, and as a result, I was still the top student of St. Augustine’s Academy at the end of our second grading period. On the other hand, Helena copped the second-highest position. Literally, it was what people used to describe as relationship goals!
Even though our relationship was only a secret, that didn’t stop us from being satisfied and happy. Just by being beside Helena was heaven already. I didn’t have anything to offer, but she was already and beyond grateful for simple things.
We used to study in the library together. We used to hold hands when it was only the two of us, we ate lunch in the canteen and played random instruments in the Music Room. It was our favorite hangout place here in the school. I knew how to play the guitar, but I would never forget that Helena was the one who taught me how to play the piano.
After our quiet yet intimate kiss inside her own Music Room where she responded with all her heart, Helena sang beautifully while playing the piano. Her voice was majestic, and as the days went by, I was even more fascinated by her when she wrote me a song.
The title was ‘Forever with You.’ That said, I really wished that I could stay forever with her. I wasn’t used to having someone do that kind of thing for me because, with my previous relationship, it was me who would always exert an effort to make everything work completely.
Today was November 12, 2008. Wednesday.
As usual, I got up early and went to school. Our second grading period had just ended, and the third grading class would officially start next week. So, it was like a vacation again. Students would only come to school today and for the rest of the week for the sports festival and other outdoor activities.
Although we wouldn’t have any class for today, I still couldn’t help but prepare and be handsome. In two months, I could say that Helena’s way of staring at me somehow changed if I would never put any wax.
There was always a spark whenever she glanced at me with my natural and unruly hair. So, most of the time, I would not style my hair just for her. I should only be the most handsome in Helena’s eyes, and I should never be confident that someone would stop liking her only because she already busted the person months ago.
Since we had a secret relationship, I guessed Brent was just right around the corner… still liking her. His somewhat condescending aura was getting into my nerves. That Filipino-American guy definitely had the looks, but I would make sure that I wouldn’t ever lose!
Every day, I would wait for Helena at the parking lot of our school. And speaking of my gorgeous girlfriend, I could now see her dashingly walking towards me—prompting me to gasp for air. It was as if I was melting again with the way she was staring at me, urging my right hand to brush up my hair.
If only I could shout to the whole world that she was already my girlfriend, I would have done that two months ago and right after I saved her! But it wasn’t easy, and most of all, it wasn’t possible. I was willing to wait and be a secret boyfriend for as long as she wanted me to stay hidden—if that would give me an assurance of not losing her.
“Good morning!” I greeted her enthusiastically. I controlled myself not to kiss her because we were on the school grounds, so I ended up taking her bag gentlemanly.
At least, Helena agreed that I would be the one to carry her things now. In our first week of being together, she didn’t really like the idea and just kept on claiming that I wasn’t her personal assistant.
But I was the type of man who never gives up. I always insisted—always persuading Helena. I was doing this because I liked doing this for her, and I was blissful enough to have done this simple act for the one I loved.
“Good morning, Cristoff. A-Aren’t you going to say something?” Helena was indeed smiling, but it was too obvious that confusion was evident on her face, as if she was waiting for me to say something to her.
“Hmm, nothing. Do I have to say something, Helena? About what? Did something happen?” My forehead creased into a furrow when I asked her.
Her genuine smile had suddenly faded and was replaced by a fake one. Then, she slyly rolled her magnificent green eyes… but I was still able to notice that.
“Nothing, I mean—never mind. I guessed I was still exhausted from last night. Daddy treated me over a fancy dinner. Anyway, let’s go? Let’s take a look at the different booths inside! We don’t have something like this in my previous school. We don’t have a sports fest, just a mere swimming competition!” Helena mentioned.
“Wow! Then, that’s good. It would be your first time to experience a sports fest. Not to mention the fact that you will experience it with me,” I told her. I tried to sound nonchalant, but my brain already sent signals into my hand to hold Helena’s hand, which she immediately withdrew.
Helena glared at me as if silently saying the words, “Don’t you dare hold me here! We are at school, and obviously, people can see us!” Her eyes were almost popping out of their sockets too, so I just ended up smiling foolishly.
Along the way, we bumped with her seatmate, Jenny, and the two of them talked. I was happy because, at least, Helena already had a friend in our classroom. It just so happened that three of us were teamed up together for our Social Science project. After a few talks and giggles, the two separated.
Helena and I just took a few steps after entering the quadrangle field—when I thought some sophomore students or those who came from second-year levels—just handcuffed both of us and pulled us into their booth. With a small altar, white decorations, and beautiful flowers showered over the man-made aisle, it was exactly a Wedding Booth.
“Oops… sorry, Seniors! We don’t have our first prospects yet, so it’s about time to catch some lovebirds in the air. After all, you two look like a perfect match together. So… there’s nothing wrong with us marrying you here, right? Please?”
One girl tried to ask for permission as she clasped her palms in front of her chest together. Ironically speaking, I wasn’t sure why she was still asking for permission when they already handcuffed and dragged us here all along.
Well, Helena and I were indeed a perfect match! With our drooling looks and IQ levels, I could say that we were a match made in heaven. So, you don’t even have to flatter us, miss! We already know about it. A little voice, blended with too much pride, was screaming inside my head.
While worrying that the handcuff might hurt Helena’s left wrist and to end this quickly, I stared at her while silently asking for her approval through our eye contacts. It was actually fine for me, but her decision was much more important.
Helena’s cheeks were blushing. She was gazing at me like we were the only ones here, but after that, she just nodded with a sweet smile on her face. It was her gesture of showing her simple approval. It was only a small beam, but it made my heart jump rapturously.
“Okay, it’s fine with us… but you have to hurry up, okay? We still have to go somewhere else, and I don’t want us to be late there,” I seriously told the sophomore students.
“Sure thing, big bro! Don’t worry, this will be done before you could even notice that we were already finished. You might want to ask for an extension. Anyway, since you two were our first captured customers here, we will give you silver couple rings. These are authentic and real,” another girl chirped excitedly.
Soon, they called someone to mock as a priest. They lit a candle, placed a lacey veil at Helena’s head, and began the fake ceremony.
Being over-protective, I even helped them while placing the veil on Helena because there might be a pin somewhere that could accidentally prick her skin, and I didn’t want that to happen. I even sounded like I was scolding them to slow down because Helena might get hurt in the process.
After that, the two of us faced each other, and I gently held Helena’s hands. Too many emotions were overwhelming my heart. I couldn’t help but smile at her, and that was what she did too. In front of me was the most beautiful girl in the whole wide world—making me the luckiest guy alive on earth.
But my attention was caught when Brent’s group passed behind Helena. As usual, he had been pissed off at Jack’s teasing again, most especially when he saw us.
